When I think of the people in power to make a decision on Slocum I get to this:

" Although your mind's opaque, try thinking more if just for your own sake..." Tim Cowlishaw

The only playoff team with worse ST's in the playoffs is Denver Ranked 23rd and Carolina Ranked 30th.

The Green Bay Packers ST's Rank just slightly better or 22nd.

ST Ranking For Remaining Playoff teams:

Batimore Ranks 2nd.

New England 5th.

Indy Ranks 8th.

Dallas Ranks 13th

Seattle Ranks 19th.

(I'll just stick this in here)

Some time ago, I joined the ranks of the Fire Slocum crew. Last season was a disaster with all the screw-ups and blocked kicks, etc. Fire Slocum, but who do you hire?

Maybe the Niners have the answer.

The new 49er HC is Jim Tomsula. The rumor in SF is that he will build an all new staff. If true, that would mean top flight ST coach Brad Seely would be a free agent. Seely has a long history of ST excellence and is an old school guy right down Pittsburgh Mike's alley.

I wanted to put this in the Fire Slocum thread, but I couldn't find it. (Yoop, you wanted me to actually Google this thread?)

So Hire Seely, and in the process, Fire Slocum!

Many here predicted that ST's would play a significant role in terms of a Packers loss in the NFC Championship game:

It will take awhile for that to set in with Head Coach Mike McCarthy.

Maybe after next season?

Taking into account MM's brother having passed, the timing of any assistant coaching change might be thrown off. I'm really hoping that they are doing their due diligence and tkaing a hard look at whether we can win with the present state of special teams. Nobody is saying the players are not somewhat culpable for the results on the field, but the coordinator has to be able to get the results needed from the players, and that's just not happening. Please MM, do not continue your blind loyalty to Slocum, no matter whether he is your buddy or not. Hopefully TT can talk to MM and convince him that it's time to shore up this important 1/3 of the team, especially when some good assistants are now out there and being picked up fast. Standing pat would be a mistake.

My mother's maiden name is Slocum and I have no idea if ol' Shawn is a distant relative or not but I should find out since he seems to have some dirt or pictures on someone associated with Green Bay. Qualifications and results don't seem to matter so if we're related maybe I can get a job with the Packers by way of nepotism or cronyism. How this guy still has his job is beyond me. I have no idea what it's going to take to get rid of him because evidently proving his incompetence year after year isn't enough.

Carolina Packer has a good point in that M.M.'s brother passing away probably caused a delay with implementing any changes the team is contemplating.

Simply a small point pbmax....not damning !

Some fans want to point to a small common connection for Mike McCarthy and Shawn Slocum from early in their coaching careers. That's IMO smaller than hailing from TEXAS.

TT and Shawn Slocum: Roots... common roots: TEXAS and again...NOT DAMNING.

The bigger picture:

What this will come down to in this off season is intent described by action and nothing else.

Packer Nation deserves to see change. It's got to happen NOW not two-three seasons from now.

I do understand Ted Thompson's Brides Maid mentality but for the vast majority of Packer Nation hopefully that doesn't wash.

The thing that should be most damning to Slocum is this: For the first time anyone can remember he can't use injuries as an excuse... Remember all the whining about how he never knew who would be available each week? That and he was allowed to use Cobb on returns.... Still last place....

PT, he used injuries this season as an excuse. He intimated that the blocked kicks happened bc of the injuries to Sitton and Lange.

7 kick blocks is my last straw, it should be McCarthy's too.
