Were the Packers over worked on the practice field last week? Jason Wilde believed so. I remember hearing reports that the Packers had used several practice sessions getting ready for their first game against the Bears. Which of course makes sense. I don't expect this team to get over worked on the practice field during the regular season .

Also listening to Jason Wilde, he said he got an earful from Favre during Favres bi-weekly press conference. Favre responded to Jason with som sarcastic remarks, one that caught my attention, was Wilde asked him why he didn't do his press conferences on a weekly basis anymore, especially when Favre used to say how much he liked doing press conferences.

Favre responded by saying that back in those times it used to be fun, that they were winning on a regular basis.

He also said that he has a lot of trust in Driver, but he is not real sure what the other guys can do.

maybe they thought they were still practicing.

I think it's almost a given that McCarthy is putting way more effort into the opener against the Bears than some preseason. One, because the preseason doesn't count and, two, because this first game means so much more to this team than usual.

I wondering the same thing. I HATE excuses but I have rarely heard the Packers complain about practice and there were some grumblings last week about the how long they were. I know, I know...they a professional athletes and this is there job so they should just shut up and do what they are told. However, even though I believe the Bengals are a better team then the Packers, I do not believe that they are 48-17 better. Something, or multiple things, went wrong last week. I just hope they are able to fix some things. Like piss poor effort!

Any idea who the reporter was who made the mistake of suggesting that they might not be a good team this year? I think if Brett were younger he'd have gone over the table after him.

Jason said that he asked Favre about the talent of this team, and how it might take until the end of the year for it to develop. Jason said that he was trying to be compassionate about it, and was basically agreeing with Favre about his earlier comments about the talent on this team.

I think Favre might have gotten upset at Rob Dmovsky from the press gazzette.

You guys won't like me for this but Favre has a history of ducking out when the going gets bad (reporter wise that is). He is to be admired for many things but when the going get's rough he heads out the door fast when the reports try and interview him.

Personally, I don't understand how athletes, along with everyone else in the spotlight, can have such patience with the media. Some people act surprised when something like the "Kenny Rodgers/cameraman incident" happens. Frankly, I can't believe it doesn't happen once a week. You take a pro athlete who is bigger stronger tougher than 98 percent of us, and you back them into a corner and hound them with stupid questions after a tough loss or a bad day....................how the hell do media types not get killed more often?

....Favres bi-weekly press conference. .....
He also said that he has a lot of trust in Driver, but he is not real sure what the other guys can do.

I thought the most telling comment Favre made during the news conference was that he knew what DD was good at (going across the middle and making the tough catch), but he didn't really know what the other guys were good at yet. What a dig on Fergie! How long has Fergie been on the team? And he still hasn't shown any consistent success as a vertical threat, or an "out" specialist, or a guy that can be trusted going across the middle? I really think Favre is tired of waiting for Fergie to show up. I know many of us on this forum share Favre's frustration.

Exactly, Murph!

I've often wondered why Favre puts up with it as much as he does.

EARLY OFFSEASON

"Brett, are you going to come back this year?"

Brett: I haven't decided. I need to take some time to think about it with my family. I don't want to make a rash decision.

"Brett, are you going to retire?"

Brett: I haven't decided.

"Brett, considering this team still sucks are you leaning towards retiring?"

Brett: I haven't decided.

MONTHS LATER

Brett: I'm going to come back.

"Brett, why would you come back? The Packers didn't make any moves."

Brett: I still want to play football.

"Brett, what makes you think this year will be any better than last year?"

Brett: I don't know if it will be better, but I still enjoy playing football. We have a lot of talent on this team, but we're inexperienced. As much talent as we've ever had.

MONTHS LATER (after a preseason loss)

"Why did you come back?"

Brett: We have a lot of talent on this team, but it's inexperienced. I still like playing football.

"This team looks like it will go 4-12 again. Why didn't you retire?"

Brett: I understand there will be growing pains, but there's talent. It may not go great, or maybe we get on a hot streak, but the only thing I can do is lead this team, be as prepared as possible and play as hard as I can.

"Brett, what made you come back?"

Brett: I still enjoy playing football. This team has talent. We could go to the Super Bowl or we may not win a game. I'm not going to make any predictions.

That what reporters do! Ask the same questions over and over....I guess he could just say I'm not talking to reporters anymore....win or lose....that'd be a better way I think.....

That's what he's doing. He didn't bail on his press conference today. It was 24 minutes long. I think he stated he's only going to do them once every two weeks now. Personally, I think he should just come out after every good game he has.
:D

But he's done these things every Wednesday, win or lose, for about 12 years now.

Harvey:

Considering that it's TC what can we establish about Favre and picks ?

I'd say he should be more comfortable by a wide margin in OUR TC than he'll be in Season games. Yet, Favre is so competitive that maybe TC doesn't challenge him anymore?

By the way Harvey, the Math on Favre picks to Rodgers picks giving that Aaron Rodgers threw as many pass's as Favre.

12.75 or 13 picks for Rodgers Vs. 16 for Favre.

Now Favre would have practised exclusively or almost so. with the First Team and Rodgers did so only in Favre's absence.

For what it's worth.

GO PACK GO !

Yea, and that's cool...I've seen him bolt several times after a loss though where he's freely available after a win...my point? ,either talk during good times and bad or don't talk at all....not a big deal by the way...he's been very media friendly over the years...anyway, I ain't gonna win this debate under any circumstances so I'll leave it at that....

In case I ever become famous, I have a little plan developed to help deal with the media. I would mess with them constantly. I can't believe more people don't do it. I would tell the media that I belonged to a cult where pubic hair is used as a condiment. Then I would go into great detail about my relationship with barnyard animals. Why not lie to them and tell them outlandish bullshit? Tell them your Jewish one day, and Muslim the next. Put your finger in your butt and try to touch them with it. Fling boogers at them. What do you guys think?

Hey Murph, it were you would it actually be a lie though?

Mostly.

But why not mess with them. Hell if I was Brett I would have told the media I was retiring, right after I told the coach I was playing. Call a press conference in the middle of the Ethiopian desert, telling them you have a decision made concerning whether or not your gonna play next year, and don't show up. It just seems to me that the media has really got out of hand the last few years. Maybe it's our fault? Do we as fans put that much demand on them? I doubt it.

Why is it that Ruvell Martin is clearly the #3 WR in practice, yet he has 1 reception for 13 yards in 3 pre-season games. Is he unable to transfer what he does in practice to a game situation? Is Rodgers not looking his way? (I don't think Martin gets in games with Favre). Are the Packers "hiding" Martin, hoping they can sneak him on to the practice squad? Or is it something that just can't be explained? Thoughts?

A few years ago Dominik Hasek grabbed Jim Kelley (a Buffalo REPORTER, not QB!) for a critical column. Got him by the neck an choked him, IIRC. It that the kind of stuff you're talking about?
