No reason to continue if you are under 45.

I recently came across a handwritten note in a file drawer from then- Packer GM Tom Braatz.
It's dated 5/5/88.
A year earlier, I had written to him with a suggestion to check out safety Chuck Cecil.
The note reads :
"Dear ____ (this was when I had yet to become the Artist Known as The Shadow)
Thanks for your insight into the draft. We did get Chick Cecil for you. Blades, Gruber, Dixon were gone when we picked."
Sincerely,
To Braatz
............
I realize this is pretty insignificant stuff - but it still makes me smile.

Packer fan... you should smile and do so every time you see it. You're in the possession of a piece of Green Bay Packer History.

I wouldn't have that shoved into some drawer; rather framed and possibly displayed somewhere for me and my fellow Packer fans (well anyone) to see, read and enjoy.

Some history on these men as Green Bay Packers:

Former Green Bay Packer GM - Thomas Myron Braatz

Tom Braatz - Green Bay Packers Executive VP/Director of Football Operations 1987 - 1991.

" Cecil was selected by the Packers in the fourth round (89th overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft. Cecil was known for his thunderous tackling and aggressive style during his time as a safety for the Packers (1988–1992), Cardinals (1993) and Oilers (1995) .."

I always thought Tom Braatz should have opened up a bar/restaurant in Green Bay. What Packer fan could resist a place called Braatz And Beer?

This is why you split the GM and coach duties. To have time to crowd source your draft.

:D

GREAT ! :-)

Filed under "It makes little sense":

I've got a lovely Toronto Maple Leaf (NHL) coffee cup on my desk and I'm a die hard Montreal Canadians fan.

I'll have to dig out that tip (written on parchment) on Don Hutson That I previously sent to the Packers.

I remember when I wrote to Bart Starr asking him to draft Ronnie Lott and Joe Montana. He still sends me a hate card every spring around draft day. I'm pretty sure he's the guy who put the burning bag of dog feces on my porch in '84. But I got him back - I donated a two door Chevette to the Rawhide Boys ranch.
