Erving can play multiple positions, and Mitchell Schwartz? Well, not good. And he can kick inside for Mack if he opts out.

Not for the Browns who need to find a bunch of starters

7. NELSON AGHOLOR | USC 6001|198 lbs|3JR Tampa, Fla. (Berkeley Prep HS) 5/24/1993 (age 21) #15

BACKGROUND: A five-star wide receiver/safety recruit out of high school, Agholor, who was born in Nigeria and moved to the U.S. in 1998, had every program in the country fighting for his talent, eventually choosing USC over Florida and several other nearby schools. With Robert Woods and Marqise Lee entrenched as the Trojans’ starting receivers, he settled into the No. 3 wide receiver role on the USC offense as a true freshman, finishing third on the team with 340 yards on 19 catches in 2012. With Woods off to the NFL, Agholor and Lee formed a dynamic duo and he recorded a team-best 918 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns, earning Second Team All-Pac 12 honors as a return man with two punt return scores. Agholor stepped into the No. 1 wide receiver role as a junior and finished among the conference leaders in receptions (104), receiving yards (1,313) and receiving touchdowns (12), also returning two punts for touchdowns. He earned First Team All-Pac 12 and All-American honors in 2014 and decided to skip his senior season for the 2015 NFL Draft.

STRENGTHS: Gifted athlete with electric feet and sudden movement skills…explosive leaper with coordinated body control to make easy adjustments and snatch the ball out of the air…separates well in his patterns with good depth and burst in his breaks, creating room to work with improved routes…shows the start/stop quickness to catch defenders off guard, picking up speed as he goes…finds running lanes as a ballcarrier, displaying vision and setting up his moves…flashes quick, soft hands to snare throws away from his body…feisty ballcarrier and will flash the toughness to pick up each yard…adequate effort blocker for the position…motivated self-starter and team captain with dependable football character…offers special teams value as a return man – averaged 14.6 yards per punt return (37/530) at USC with four career touchdowns, also returned kicks (24/443/18.5/0)…high level of starting production, especially in 2014 as his 1,313 receiving yards ranks fourth-best all-time in school history for a single season.

WEAKNESSES: Lean-framed and thin-muscled, lacking the body type to comfortably carry 200+ pounds…bad habit of getting wild in his routes or running into his own blockers and needs to do a better job of staying controlled in his movements – several examples of him leaving production on the field because he couldn’t tightrope the sideline…too many focus drops and double-catches on his résumé, displaying frustrating ballskills and concentration…needs to eliminate the mental errors and improve his situational awareness…spirited runner, but won’t break tackles and doesn’t play with consistent finishing toughness, looking to avoid contact…room to improve his reliability as a return man (several botched returns) and as a ballcarrier (two career fumbles)…minor durability concern – missed part of the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine with a broken finger on his left hand.

SUMMARY: USC’s leading receiver the past two seasons, Agholor is looking to follow in the footsteps of Robert Woods and Marqise Lee who were both second round picks in the 2013 and 2014 NFL Drafts, respectively – both were among the top-six receivers drafted and both in the top-41 picks. Agholor is an athletic pass-catcher with the sudden movements and body control to make fluid adjustments on the ball, although he needs to eliminate the drops and mental miscues to be a reliable weapon at the next level. He doesn’t have the speed to be a game-breaker or the body type for a possession target, but should fit nicely as a No. 2/3 option who can play inside and outside and also be impactful as a return man if he proves to be a reliable finisher.

8. CEDRIC OGBUEHI | Texas A&M 6052|306 lbs|5SR Allen, Texas (Allen HS) 4/25/1992 (age 23) #70
2010

BACKGROUND: A four-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Ogbuehi received several scholarship offers, committing to Texas A&M as a junior in high school and redshirting in 2010. He was in and out of the starting line-up as a redshirt freshman in 2011, starting six games at guard. Ogbuehi was a full-time starter in 2012 as a sophomore and started all 13 games at right guard. He moved outside to right tackle in 2013 as a junior and started 11 games, missing two games due to injury. Ogbuehi returned for his senior season in 2014 and moved to left tackle, starting 11 games, also moving to right tackle for two games, earning First Team All-SEC honors. He was invited to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but was unable to participate due to injury.

STRENGTHS: NFL size with excellent length and body thickness for the position with a naturally wide base…balanced pass set with an athletic lower body, nimble feet and coordinated kickslide to mirror in space…gets into position quickly with a smooth first step to cut off speed with natural bend and flexibility to make up for mistakes…agile enough to reset and regain balance, sinking his hips and recovering…easily gets to the second level and utilizes body position well in space…strong base with the sheer size to wall off the pocket…eager blocker and looks to punch and overwhelm defenders…physical in the run game, generating movement with his upper body strength – competitive finisher in this area…versatile experience with playing time at both tackle and guard positions over his 43 career starts…highly thought of by the Texas A&M staff and considered a hard worker.

WEAKNESSES: Plays too upright and needs to keep his butt low and knees bent… allows rushers into his body with wide hand placement and unrefined upper body technique – too much of a hugger and can be knocked off balance, relying too much on his body to get the job done…poor anticipation with his punch, struggling to recognize moves by rushers…wants to use his hands, but sluggish in this area as his limbs struggle to keep up with his lower body movements…too grabby and will panic at times…tough, but doesn’t show consistent aggression through the whistle and doesn’t sell out each snap…laundry list of lower body injuries, dating back to high school and earlier in his college career, including an ankle injury (Oct. 2011) that caused him to miss three games and, most recently, a torn right ACL (Dec. 2014) that will sideline him until NFL training camp.

SUMMARY: After playing defense his entire life, Ogbuehi moved to the offensive line as a junior in high school and spent time at four different positions up front at Texas A&M, appearing most comfortable at right tackle. His athleticism is his best trait, which is an excellent foundation for the position, showing a smooth shuffle and the agile footwork to cover a large area. But his upper body technique is undeveloped, most notably his punch and hand use, which needs refined and doesn’t match his lower body effectiveness. Ogbuehi has the skill-set that projects him as a quality starter in the NFL, but his next level ceiling depends on his upper body technique and reliability to stay healthy and on the field – first round talent, but the recent ACL surgery and injury history is a strong concern.

4. BUD DUPREE | Kentucky 6040|269 lbs|4SR Irwinton, Ga. (Wilkinson County HS) 2/12/1993 (age 22) #2

BACKGROUND: A three-star tight end/defensive end recruit out of high school, Alvin “Bud” Dupree received offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech and Kentucky, committing to the Wildcats. He wanted to play offense, but the coaches kept him on defense once he arrived in Lexington, starting the final three games in 2011 as a true freshman defensive end, recording 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Dupree became a full-time starter in 2012 and started all 12 games, finishing with 91 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He started all but one game in 2013 as a junior and recorded 61 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 7.0 sacks, earning Second Team All-SEC honors. Dupree started 10 games in 2014 as a senior and finished with 74 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, earning First Team All-SEC honors. He was invited to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but pulled out after accepting.

STRENGTHS: Flexible athlete with natural bend and low pad level…well-built, tapered physique with impressive upper and lower body bulk…twitchy first step quickness and get-off acceleration to be a difference-maker off the edge, keeping his momentum around the corner to flatten…stays balance and doesn’t slow down once he gains an inch…rubber ankles and loose hips to shift his weight and change directions…appears natural on his feet with experience dropping into coverage…rangy with speed and closing burst to cover the entire field…collects himself well in space to break down with natural body control…explosive striker and plays with energy…quick thinker and rarely plays hesitant…scrapes over the top with backfield vision to stunt inside and find rush lanes…tough player to block with his agility, effort and improved hand use – doesn’t give up on plays…versatile experience and the coaching staff gave him added responsibilities as a senior – two and three point stance on film at defensive end and outside linebacker…became more of a vocal leader in 2014 with impeccable work ethic and character on and off the field – his coaches go out of their way to gush about him…led the team in tackles for loss and sacks each of the last three seasons, also finishing second on the team in total tackles three straight years – finished second all-time in career sacks at Kentucky (23.5).

WEAKNESSES: Can be overwhelmed in the run game and doesn’t show the upper body strength to slug or bully with his length…blown off the ball at times and has little hope against multiple blockers, lacking that type of power to split double-teams…unpolished hand use as a pass rusher and needs to improve his shed skills…won’t consistently convert speed to power…run awareness is a work-in-progress and needs to learn that sometimes it’s best to stay at home – overeager mentality…needs to consistently control himself at the contact point to finish in space, allowing himself to get wild at times in the pocket or open field…much better hitter than wrap-up tackler right now and needs to be more reliable once he makes contact – will fall off some tackle attempts when off-balance…history of nagging injuries, including missing one game as a junior (Oct. 2013) with an irritating pectoral injury – didn’t lift during the pre-draft process due to left pectoral injury.

SUMMARY: Dupree was a versatile two-way player in high school and also led the basketball team to a state championship in 2010, bringing that versatility to Kentucky where he excelled as a hand-on-the-ground defensive end before expanding his résumé as a senior, dropping into coverage with added outside linebacker responsibilities. He developed his frame and passes the eye test with strong work ethic and self-starting traits to stay in tip-top shape. Dupree displays above average range and closing burst to be explosive off the edge and hold up in space off the line of scrimmage, striking his target with violence. He isn’t yet the sum of his parts and needs some regular maintenance work, but Dupree has the physical ingredients that forces offenses to know where he is at all times – top-20 talent and fits both 4-3 (defensive end) and 3-4 (outside linebacker) defensive schemes.

1. SHANE RAY | Missouri 6025|249 lbs|4JR Kansas City, Mo. (Bishop Miege HS) 5/18/1993 (age 21) #56

BACKGROUND: A three-star defensive end recruit out of high school, Ray weighed offers from Notre Dame and Wisconsin, but decided to stay in-state and commit to the Tigers, redshirting in 2011. He was a reserve in 2012 as a redshirt freshman and played a similar role as a sophomore, but earned more and more snaps despite a crowded depth chart (Kony Ealy, Michael Sam, Markus Golden). Ray finished the 2013 season with 9.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He replaced Ealy as the starting right defensive end in 2014 and set new school records for tackles for loss (22.5) and sacks (14.5), leading the SEC in both categories. A consensus All-SEC and AllAmerican, Ray was a finalist for the Bednarik Award and earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He decided to skip his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.

STRENGTHS: Explosive off the snap with a deadly first step, instantly accelerating and shifting his momentum in a flash – launches off the line of scrimmage with sustained burst to win the edge and force holding penalties…nice job leveraging blockers with his hip, using lower body flexibility to continue running the arc…plays with controlled urgency and athleticism with awesome timed speed that translates to the field…terrific motor and routinely makes stops away from the line of scrimmage with his chase skills…run anticipation is still a work-in-progress, but his read/react awareness is great, processing and closing…very active lateral mover to fight through bodies and avoid blocks – tough rusher to square up…highly active limbs with sudden footwork…adequate punch to give blockers something to think about…physically and mentally tough, playing through pain and adversity…showed considerable maturation since arriving at Missouri and is considered an upstanding citizen and teammate…NFL bloodlines as the son of Wendell Ray, who was a Missouri linebacker drafted in the fifth round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings – Wendell abandoned his son and Shane’s mother before his first birthday, although they have an amicable relationship today.

WEAKNESSES: Average size for the position and lacks ideal height/length dimensions…adequate bulk on his frame, but has room to get stronger and eliminate some bad weight…relies on speed and won’t overwhelm blockers with his hands at the point of attack…lacks much creativity in his pass rush arsenal and needs to be more diverse to keep blockers guessing – needs to develop his hand/arm technique and improve his secondary moves if he doesn’t win with his first step…too easily engulfed and controlled when blockers cut him off early in his rush angle…has some tightness in space and lacks experience dropping in space…needs to improve his on-field discipline with several costly late hit penalties on his game tapes, including an ejection from the 2014 SEC Championship for targeting the quarterback…only one season as the full-time starter…minor durability concerns – sat out the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine due to a right foot injury.

SUMMARY: Ray showed flashes of brilliance as a part-time player behind Ealy, but he emerged as one of the top defensive players in the country in 2014, setting several Missouri pass rush records as a junior. He grew up in poverty and was involved in a few minor incidents in his youth due to anger and immaturity, but he isn’t a criminal and is considered a stand-up individual by his coaches and teammates. On the field, Ray has gifted first step burst and get-off explosion to advance his shoulder past the tackle and finish in the pocket, but mostly relies on his initial movements and short-area suddenness and is still developing his pass rush sequence and arsenal of moves. He also has questionable fluidity to hold up in space on an island and might be restricted to a right defensive end role in a four-man front. Nonetheless, Ray is an above average pursuit player with the best first step in this draft class, qualities that will help him shine at the next level while he develops the rest of his game – mid-to-late first round prospect who could come off the board in the top-10 due to his Pro Bowl potential.

4. D.J. HUMPHRIES | Florida 6050|307 lbs|3JR Union, N.C. (Mallard Creek HS) 12/28/1993 (age 21) #70

BACKGROUND: A five-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Dierrias “D.J.” Humphries was a hot commodity out of North Carolina and spurned offers from Alabama, Georgia and many others to sign with Florida. He played in all 12 games as a true freshman, starting three at left tackle and earning Freshman All-SEC honors. Humphries played in the first seven games (six starts) in 2013 before a knee injury sidelined him for the rest of his sophomore season. He missed two games as junior in 2013, starting 10 games at left tackle. Humphries decided to skip his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.

STRENGTHS: Coordinated lower half with clean footwork and knee bend…natural athlete with the lateral range to handle any type of edge speed, riding rushers around the corner or countering inside stunts…mobile and easily gets to the second level, looking for blood…centers his gravity and uses his body rhythm to hold his ground at the contact point in pass protection…sets up quickly and sits in his stance with functional arm length and flexible coil…leans a little, but stays balanced and keeps his feet underneath him…improved eye use to be more calculating with his punch and extension, waiting for rushers to make the first move before attacking…displays consistent intensity through the snap, playing on edge…possesses an inner confidence on the field and off…has worked hard to eat right and grind in the weight room to elevate his weight, adding 40+ pounds the last three years…football bloodlines – father (D.J.) played football at Presbyterian College and went undrafted in the 2002 NFL Draft, playing three seasons in the Arena Football League.

WEAKNESSES: Still growing into his frame and needs to stay at a consistent weight (300-310 pounds), playing in the 280-290 pound range in 2014…functional strength is a work-in-progress…lacks the point of attack power to shock defenders in the run game, lacking the hand strength to latch-and-control…needs to do a better job utilizing angles and doesn’t have a great feel for his positioning – doesn’t consistently turn his body to seal outside run lanes…spatial awareness is undeveloped and doesn’t “feel” what’s going on around him – needs to use his peripherals and keep his head on a swivel…misfires with his hands and needs to improve his aim…inconsistent snap anticipation and often a tick late with his first movements…rarely see him on the ground, but still caught lunging quite a bit…medicals need investigated, missing games each of the last two seasons – missed remainder of his sophomore season after a sprained MCL in his left knee (Oct. 2013) during practice; missed two games as a junior after a high ankle sprain and chipped bone in his knee (Sept. 2014).

SUMMARY: A blue-chip prep recruit, Humphries flashed top-shelf talent and potential when on the field in Gainesville due to his lower body athleticism and natural gifts. He has been the best player on the field most of his life, getting by with those natural tools in his pass-sets, but he needs to get stronger and improve his awareness as a run blocker to reach his full potential at the next level. Humphries answered the weight questions during the pre-draft process, but the durability concerns are legitimate after several lower body injuries. While far from a finished product, he has intriguing potential due to his impressive lower body athleticism and hand use and he should get better as his technique improves – top-25 prospect and has the most upside of any offensive tackle in this draft class.

2. SHAQ THOMPSON | Washington 6001|228 lbs|3JR Sacramento, Calif. (Grant HS) 4/21/1994 (age 21) #7

BACKGROUND: A five-star safety recruit out of high school, Shaquille “Shaq” Thompson had Oregon, California and several other teams anxiously waiting his college decision, ultimately deciding to commit to Washington. He started every game at nickelback as a true freshman, recording 74 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention and All-Freshman honors. Thompson started 12 games at linebacker in 2013 and finished with 78 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss, earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention honors. He started all 13 games as a junior in 2014, playing both offense (running back) and defense (linebacker), recording 81 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries, earning First Team All-Pac 12 and All-American honors. He also won the 2014 Paul Hornung Award as college football’s most versatile player. Thompson opted to skip his senior season to enter the 2015 NFL Draft. He was also drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of high school, playing for the organization’s minor league summer team.

STRENGTHS: Above average athleticism with versatile playmaking ability…coordinated footwork and smooth hips in his movements, displaying fluid body control to break down in space…rangy player with speed to mirror at the line of scrimmage…physical wrap tackler with an accurate strike zone to hit and finish with his long arms, closing with veracity…understands field leverage, eliminating inside lanes and forcing the ballcarrier to alter his path…aggressively takes on blocks with active limbs to rip-and-tear…trusts what he sees and plays with above average ball instincts and spatial awareness to shut down zones…versatile in pass coverage with the movement skills and body control to cover down the seam…natural ballskills and timing with 16 passes defended and five interceptions on his résumé – averaged 30.4 yards per interception return with five career touchdowns on defense…heady turnover machine, always trying to rip the ball out, but not at the expense of the stop…versatile experience offense, defense and special teams – averaged 7.5 yards per carry as a running back in 2014 (61/456/2) and made an impact on special teams coverages, making impact stops as the first man down the field…above average leadership traits with the accountability, mindset and football aptitude that is expected at the next level…durable and didn’t miss any playing time the last three seasons…NFL bloodlines – older brother (Syd’Quan) was a seventh round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft out of California, playing three seasons at cornerback for the Denver Broncos.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks ideal functional power for the position and needs to get stronger…needs to better anticipate blockers to avoid contact and keep himself clean…can be eaten up at the line of scrimmage and second level, lacking ideal hand technique and pop at the point of attack…doesn’t consistently unlock his hips at contact and will wait for the ballcarrier to initiate instead of attacking…will take some wasted steps and has room to improve his discipline and anticipation…finishing power has room for improvement, allowing himself to be stiff-armed at times, causing him to slip off his target…enters the NFL with questions about his fit and might lack a natural position.

SUMMARY: One of the most versatile prospects in the 2015 NFL Draft class, Thompson starred on offense and defense for the Huskies, but made it clear to NFL teams that his next level future will be at linebacker, not safety or running back, because that is where he is most comfortable. He is a balanced, greased-up athlete with the functional range and playmaking instincts to make an impact in pass coverage, run support and on special teams coverages. Thompson is a see-ball, get-ball type of player, but his discipline needs nurtured to eliminate mistakes. He has room to get stronger to improve his take-on skills, but the biggest question with his NFL transition is role – what is his fit at the next level? The answer to that question will vary from team to team, but there is no questioning his athletic and playmaking potential – early-to-mid second round player with the physical and mental make-up NFL teams seek on and off the field.

5. BRESHAD PERRIMAN | UCF 6020|212 lbs|3JR Lithonia, Ga. (Arabia Mountain HS) 9/10/1993 (age 21) #11

BACKGROUND: A two-star wide receiver recruit out of high school, Perriman went widely under-recruited and despite interest from Florida State and his father’s alma mater Miami (Fla.), he committed to UCF for the opportunity to play right away. Perriman started four games as a true freshman in 2012, recording 26 catches for 388 yards and three touchdowns. He started 10 games in 2013 as a junior and finished with 39 receptions for 811 yards and four scores. Perriman had his best season in 2014 as a junior, leading the team with 50 catches for 1,044 yards (20.9 average) and nine touchdowns, earning First Team All-AAC honors. He decided to bypass his final season of eligibility to enter the 2015 NFL Draft.

STRENGTHS: Built well for the position with broad shoulders and long arms, using his size to shield defenders…tracks well with fluid adjustments to turn with body control and pluck away from his body…uses every inch of his catching radius with hand/eye coordination to snatch the ball with good-sized mitts…dynamic deep ball threat with terrific concentration, power and hang time, floating in the air (averaged 20+ yards per catch the last two seasons)…quick to gather and go after the catch with decisive strides and body strength to run through tackle attempts – hard-nosed finisher…not sudden, but accelerates like a runaway train, not slowing down…improved route runner with smooth lower body movements in/out of his breaks…physical run blocker with functional strength for the position to control his target…NFL bloodlines – father (Brett) was a second round wide receiver (52nd overall) in the 1988 NFL Draft out of Miami (Fla.) and played 10 seasons in the NFL, recording 6,589 career receiving yards…improved production the last three seasons, combining for 115 receptions and averaging 19.5 yards per catch.

WEAKNESSES: Doesn’t play with pockets of burst when changing gears, struggling to consistently separate vertically…too many focus drops on film with a bad habit of adjusting his hands in the wrong direction, fighting the ball…needs to better work back to the ball and improvise when the play breaks down…needs to consistently play up to his size and stay aggressive on 50/50 chances…lacks polish to this game and needs to improve his footwork and sink at the stem of routes…spatial awareness and field leverage is still a work-in-progress…minor durability concerns, missing the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine with a hamstring strain and sat out one game in 2013 after a concussion (Nov. 2013) the week prior – was taken off the field on a stretcher for precautionary reasons after a jarring hit.

SUMMARY: Despite losing 2014 first round pick Blake Bortles at quarterback, Perriman had his most productive season as a junior and proved to be a big-play threat at every level of the field as the starting “X” receiver. He has impressive triangle numbers (size/speed/strength) for the position and uses his strengths well, although he clearly lacks polish and needs to eliminate the drops. Perriman uses his physical size and nature before the catch to box out and after the catch, finishing with the ball in his hands. With his terrific physical traits and lifelong coaching by a NFL receiver raising him, Perriman has an excellent foundation for his age and should get even better with improved technique, pushing his NFL ceiling higher than most in the 2015 class – late first or early second round grade, but could sneak into the top20 picks due to his NFL upside.

3. DENZEL PERRYMAN | Miami (Fla.) 5106|236 lbs|4SR Coral Gables, Fla. (Coral Gables HS) 12/5/1992 (age 22) #52

BACKGROUND: A three-star linebacker recruit out of high school, Perryman spurned offers from LSU, Florida and Florida State to stay home and commit to Miami (Fla.). He saw immediate action for the Hurricanes and finished second on the team with 69 tackles. Perryman missed four games due to injury in 2012 as a sophomore (six starts), but still finished second on the team in tackles (64), earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. He started every game in 2013 as a junior outside linebacker and led the team with 108 tackles, adding 5.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, earning All-ACC First Team honors. Perryman again started all 13 games in 2014 as a senior middle linebacker and led the team with a personal-best 110 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles, earning First Team AllACC and Second Team All-American honors. He accepted an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: Sturdy and thickly-put-together with a compact, filled out frame…plays low, balanced and flexible with natural pad level…physical striker and delivers pop at contact, striking through his target with violence…strong hands and rarely misses tackles, forcing fumbles (seven career)…fills run lanes with authority and attacks blocks with excellent take-on strength – plays like a bull and doesn’t have a passive bone in his body…accurate reads and instinctive backfield vision, trusting what he sees and tracking well…patient mirror skills at the line of scrimmage with controlled movements and body control, rarely fooled by ball fakes…decisive and aggressive pursuit angles, shooting gaps and closing fast as a blitzer…motivated with natural leadership traits and an intense temperament…motor is always revving, never taking plays off – also played on special teams coverages…reliable and durable for his play style, not missing a game the last two seasons…led the team in tackles with back-to-back 100+ tackle seasons as a junior and season, leaving Miami (Fla.) ranked ninth all-time in career tackles (351) with 37 career starts, including experience inside and outside.

WEAKNESSES: Shorter than ideal, which shows up in coverage…doesn’t display ideal secondary quickness after shedding blocks, lacking sudden movements…easily engulfed by bigger blockers, getting hung up when he doesn’t properly use his length…tight movements in coverage, lacking an instinctive feel in the middle of the field…inconsistent cover awareness and uncomfortable the farther he gets from the line of scrimmage – untested dropping in man coverage…overanxious at times downhill and will lick his chops before finishing…always trying to rip the ball out, but will sacrifice the tackle at times because of it…limited pass rush repertoire as a blitzer…minor durability issue – missed three games due to a right ankle injury in 2012 and missed most of the Senior Bowl due to an abdominal sprain.

SUMMARY: A hammer looking for a nail, Perryman is short, but not small with a stocky frame and indestructible body type, going full-speed at practice and staying fresh for games – holds the school record at linebacker with a 605-pound squat. He is quick to key/read/react with above average vision to be a magnet to the ball and has no problem doing the dirty work, taking on blocks and making plays that won’t show up in the statsheet. Perryman sets the tempo on defense and special teams and tackles through his target with force, leading with his facemask and bringing his hips. His inconsistent cover skills in both man and zone could keep him from being an every-down linebacker in the NFL, but he’s a hunter on the field with high character behind the scenes – top-50 prospect.

i hope you made a mistake?

4. BYRON JONES | Connecticut 6005|199 lbs|5SR New Britain, Conn. (St. Paul HS) 9/26/1992 (age 22) #16

BACKGROUND: A two-star wide receiver recruit out of high school, Jones received only one FBS scholarship offer, committing to Connecticut and redshirting in 2010. He transitioned to safety during his redshirt year and started eight games in 2011, recording 51 tackles, six passes defended and two interceptions. Jones started all 12 games as a sophomore in 2012 and finished with 88 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and one interception. He moved to field cornerback in 2013 as a junior, recording 60 tackles, 11 passes defended and three interceptions. Jones started the first seven games of 2014 before an injury ended his senior season, finishing with 24 tackles, six passes defended and two interceptions. He earned an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but was unable to participate due to the injury.

STRENGTHS: Looks the part with a tall, long frame with adequate muscle build…sits low in his stance and transitions well to stay stride-for-stride with wide receivers vertically…flexible lower body movements to recover with smooth backpedal…leverages the field and uses his body to pin pass-catchers to the sideline…explosive lower body with outstanding leaping ability…physical wrap tackler and hits like a safety…smart, quick-thinking cover man, reading the receiver well with his back turned to the ball – natural football instincts…outstanding competitiveness at the catch point with playmaking ballskills – averaged 9.6 yards per interception return with one defensive touchdown…always dialed in and limits mental mistakes, locking down receivers like his life depends on it…ideal character, on and off the field, with a genuine love for football – film junkie and pushes himself…senior captain with low-key leadership traits…versatile experience with 38 career starts, playing both cornerback (18 starts) and safety (20 starts).

WEAKNESSES: Uses quick stab in press, but doesn’t do it consistently and needs to be more efficient with his long arms…bad habit of hopping at the line of scrimmage and needs to stay patient with his feet…lacks transitional burst and doesn’t flash a second gear to recover after the receiver gains a step…anticipation and read/react ability seem to come-and-go on film – needs more consistency in this area…caught flat-footed and will allow his eyes to pay rent in the backfield…can be driven downfield riding the hip of receivers and has a tough time with comeback and curl routes…overaggressive tendencies will get him in trouble…wasn’t a regular on special teams coverages in college…long-term durability needs investigated due to a history of shoulder issues, missing the second half of his senior year with a separated left shoulder (Oct. 2014) that required surgery.

SUMMARY: A high school quarterback and wide receiver, Jones spent his UConn career in the defensive secondary, splitting his time between safety and cornerback. He looks the part and is a well-spoken individual with impressive intangibles, drawing praise from his coaching staff – served an internship at the U.S. Capitol during the summer of 2014. Jones plays with some hip and upper body tightness and inconsistent technique, but his fluid lower body helps mask mechanical flaws – set the broad jump record (12’03”) at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. Jones is unpolished in areas and needs to be more efficient with his length, but his combination of size, smarts and God-given athleticism is what NFL teams seek at the position, along with mature and motivated character – projects best as a press corner with a mid-to-late first round grade.

5. LAKEN TOMLINSON | Duke 6033|323 lbs|5SR Chicago, Ill. (Lane Technical HS) 2/9/1992 (age 23) #77

BACKGROUND: A three-star offensive and defensive line recruit out of high school, Tomlinson passed up offers from Ohio State, Michigan State and others to sign with Duke because of his trust in the coaches and desire to work towards his medical degree. A Jamaican native, he moved to the United States at the age of 10 and was late picking up the game of football, redshirting in 2010. Tomlinson was inserted at right guard and started every game there the last four seasons for the Blue Devils, 52 straight starts. He was a three-time All-ACC First Teamer and four-time Academic All-ACC honoree, earning the 2014 Orange Bowl Courage Award. Tomlinson earned an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: NFL body type with thick hips and massive upper body…rolls his hips to generate pop and move bodies at the point of attack, using his lower body strength to drive block in the run game…stout frame, not an easy player to put on his heels and rarely caught moving in reverse…adequate set up quickness with aggressive hands off the snap…uses his eyes well to pick up twists and extra rushers, clearly displaying a high football IQ…conscious effort to keep his knees bent and pad level low, something that appears to come natural to him…physically and mentally tough and gives consistently high effort from snap-to-snap…senior captain and four-year starter at right guard and very reliable…high character human being who won’t take shortcuts and has a proven work ethic – impressive intelligence.

WEAKNESSES: Clunky in a crowd with tight hips…limited mobility and range, struggling with consistency at the second level and not doing much outside of a few feet at the line of scrimmage…stops his feet too often and ends up falling off blocks and on the ground, struggling to sustain with his limited arm length, especially in space…tardy mirror skills and too often caught off balance and hunched at the waist and needs to be more of a consistent knee bender…struggles to counter interior rush moves and needs to better anticipate pressures pre-snap…all of his experience has come at right guard with questionable versatility to line up at other positions on the line.

SUMMARY: Tomlinson was born in Jamaica, moved to the U.S. with his mother at the age of 10 and started playing football as a freshman in high school. He was recruited as both an offensive and defensive lineman, but focused on offense at Duke and was a mainstay at right guard for the Blue Devils the last four seasons, starting 52 straight games. Tomlinson has a wide, squatty body that takes up room and allows him to anchor, plugging holes and working well in his square, but struggles when asked to block in space or play away from the line of scrimmage. He doesn’t consistently bring his feet with him in the run game and lacks the length to get away with his technical issues, struggling to be reliable in the open field. Although he has his shortcomings and is scheme-specific, Tomlinson is a first-class person with strong intangibles and can be a viable starter in the league – out-performed his game tape during Senior Bowl practices and a team will draft him early based on his performance in Mobile.

BACKGROUND: A multi-sport athlete in high school, Randall chose baseball and enrolled at Butler Community College in Kansas and spent the 2010-11 season on the baseball diamond, playing shortstop and centerfield. After a right shoulder injury, he decided to play football instead of rehabbing the injury, transferring to Mesa Community College in Arizona. Randall redshirted in 2011 and was an All-American defensive back in 2012, seeing snaps at cornerback, free safety and wide receiver. He recorded 69 tackles, nine interceptions and five total touchdowns (two receiving, two punt returns, one interception return). He was a three-star cornerback JUCO recruit and received almost three dozen scholarship offers, choosing to stay in Arizona and play for the Sun Devils. Randall missed the start of the 2013 season due to a groin injury (nine starts), finishing his junior year with 71 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, six passes defended and three interceptions. He started all 13 games as the senior boundary safety in 2014 and led the team with 106 total tackles, 12 passes defended and three interceptions, earning First Team All-Pac 12 honors. Randall earned an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: Above average speed for the position with transitional quickness and natural footwork…highly aggressive and plays at full speed at all times – never gives up on plays and has a knack for chasing down ballcarriers from behind…understands situations and sees things happening quickly…decisive sideline angles with closing burst to make up ground…good anticipation to jump routes, reading the quarterback and baiting throws…heady awareness and won’t fall asleep at the wheel…adequate ballskills and knows what to do with the ball once he gains possession (six career interceptions, averaging 29.8 yards per return with two touchdowns)…plays bigger than he looks and initiates the action, seeking out contact with a violent mentality to strike through his target…plays pissed off (in a good way) and sets the tempo – unselfish team-first type with ideal training habits…played on special teams coverages at Arizona State with experience as a return man…productive starter in only two seasons at the FBS level, creating 10 turnovers (six interceptions, four forced fumbles).

WEAKNESSES: Undersized and lacks ideal strength and bulk for the safety position…willing tackler, but too often needs help to finish stops and can be taken for a ride – too many ankle biting tackle attempts…needs to break down better on the move and keep his feet underneath him to be more reliable in open-field opportunities…overaggressive at times, leading to wasted steps and motion…will get fooled by play fakes due to his aggressive nature…needs to stay patient in his pedal and often bites too early, which will lead to disaster when lined up in man coverage…still unpolished with the technical side of the game…needs to harness his hostility to avoid unnecessary contact and late hit penalties…size and violent play style draw durability concerns as he was often dinged up in college.

SUMMARY: A player with cornerback size, but a free safety skill-set, Randall took a winding road to Arizona State, including not playing football for two years after high school, and developed into a First Team All-Conference performer as a senior in Tempe. He plays with a fast and physical attitude, routinely sticking his nose in the fire, but he can be inconsistent as a box safety at times, struggling to work through contact and allowing himself to be blocked out of the play. Although he needs technique and discipline work in coverage, Randall has the size and body fluidity to hold his own, including the ballskills and confidence for the next level. He might not be a day one starter at safety, but he has the traits to make an immediate impact on special teams coverages and help in nickel situations – top-100 grade, who could go as early as the second round because the overall depth at the safety position is below average.

DAMARIOUS RANDALL
Free Safety
Arizona State University Sun Devils
#3
5:11.7-196
Pensacola, Florida
Butler Community College
Pensacola High School

OVERVIEW

Randall hopes that all of his recent road travels earns him a resting place on a National Football League roster. The Florida native left the Atlantic Coast for the corn fields of Kansas, where he first donned a baseball uniform at Butler College. One season on the diamond and the “football bug” again bit, as he left for Arizona, where he enrolled at Mesa College in 2011.

It was not until 2012 that he would get his opportunity to play on the gridiron. The long wait was worth it, as he was named a junior college All-American, enticing major college recruiters to be regular visitors at the Mesa campus. Liking life in Arizona and not looking to do any more sports “globe trotting,” he accepted a scholarship offer from the Sun Devils staff to join the Arizona State program.

Randall was a two-sport participant at Pensacola High School, helping the football team to a 14-1 record and a ninth place ranking in the state during his senior season, but had much better success as an infielder for the baseball team. He batted .313 and stole fifteen bases through 23 games during his senior season, finishing his prep career with a .247 average through 67 contests.

Randall enrolled at Butler College in 2010, joining the baseball program during the 2011 spring semester. He appeared in ten games, but managed just a .156 batting average while committing three errors. Realizing that his path to the professional ranks would not be as a baseball player, he transferred to Mesa College, but did not play football in 2011.

The 2012 All-American started at cornerback, in addition to playing as a receiver and return specialist. He finished second on the team with 69 tackles, as he broke up eight passes and intercepted nine others. He averaged 28.21 yards as a kickoff returner and ran back fourteen punts for an 18.36-yard average and two scores. He also reached the end zone twice from eight receptions for 152 yards.

Joining the Arizona State Sun Devils, Randall started twelve games at free safety in 2013. He tied for third on the team with 71 tackles (48 solos), picking off three tosses and knocking down three other throws. Two of his 5.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage caused fumbles and one of his pass thefts was good for a touchdown.

Randall took over “boundary” safety chores as a senior, as the Sun Devil received All-American and All-Pac 12 Conference recognition. He led the team with 106 tackles, marking the first time a defensive back reached the “century” mark in tackles since Jason Shivers (104 in 2003). He was also the first defensive back to lead the Sun Devils in tackles since Josh Barnett (82 in 2006). He also had three interceptions and nine pass break-ups.

SCOUTING ANALYSIS

Randall did not have the traditional path to the Arizona State secondary. The free safety was out of football for over two years, playing baseball at a small junior college in Kansas before coming out to Arizona. Raised in Pensacola, Florida, after he graduated from Pensacola High School in 2010, he played baseball at Butler Community College, competing as a shortstop, even though his coaches wanted him in the outfield because of his speed. "I had the hands to play shortstop but everybody wanted to move me to centerfield," said Randall with a smile.

Randall spent more than two years out of football before moving to the valley with a family member where he quickly found a home on the gridiron at Mesa Community College. In 2012, his only year of JUCO football, he tallied 69 tackles, nine interceptions and averaged over 18 yards per punt return. He was named an NJCAA first-team All-American and the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

After just one season at MCC, he had more than a dozen major college scholarship offers, including Louisville, Oklahoma, Nebraska and TCU. In the end, Randall elected to stay in Arizona and wear Maroon and Gold for the Sun Devils.

In 12 games at free safety, Randall tied for third on the team with 71 tackles in 2013, pulling in three interceptions with three pass break-ups and two forced fumbles while making 5.5 stops-for-loss for ASU. The All-Pac 12 Conference first-team pick had three more interceptions, as he broke up nine other throws and led the Sun Devils with 106 tackles, adding 9.5 stops-for-loss and two forced fumbles in 2014.

Randall is undersized, but has shown very good durability and stamina throughout his career thus far. Despite just three seasons on the gridiron, he’s the “quarterback” of the secondary, doing a fine job of lining everyone up. He shows very good recognition skills in the passing game, timing his leaps to produce 15 interceptions and 20 pass deflections in 36 games.

He generally gets a quick jump on the ball, but due to his inexperience, there are times when he does take some false steps when filling vs. the run. He is willing to help in run support, and even though he certainly isn't the type you would expect to be looking for contact unless it's necessary, he has recorded 15.0 stops-for-loss in two seasons at Arizona State.

Randall has the closing burst you look for in a speedy free safety. He plants and drives quickly and is at his best closing on the ball in front of him. He makes up ground when the ball is in the air and displays very quick feet. I would not consider him ideally fluid as a cornerback, but his coverage skills are better than average for the safety position.

He can match up one-on-one vs. many slot receivers and covers a lot of ground in deep-zone. The Sun Devil has excellent ball skills in coverage. He finds the ball quickly over his shoulder and is aggressive when the ball is in the air, timing his jumps well. He also does a good job of snatching it at the highest possible point.

The thing you notice from Randall at the “boundary” safety position is that he appears to really enjoy being the “quarterback of the defense” and despite minimal experience, he can often bee seen getting his teammates in proper alignment before the snap. He is quick to decide what to do after reading the quarterback's eyes and flashes above-average route recognition, evident by his 35 passes defended in three seasons.

Yes, like most players lacking a lot of experience, Randall can be overzealous and caught peeking in the backfield. Still, he plays with more passion that most on the field and as a former shortstop, you can see that he possesses above-average movement skills. He just has those loose hips to close on the ball in a hurry, along with adequate strength to hold his ground as both a half-field defender and at the point of attack. His closing burst is very good and he has the ability to make up ground when the ball is the air. He also flashes the ability to recover when caught out of position.

Do not be fooled by his adequate size and weight room numbers (14 reps in the 225-pound bench press), as Randall can hold up in man coverage vs. most tight ends and definitely has the mirror skills and foot speed to match up vs. quicker slot receivers. He turns and locates the ball and can extend his arms and snatch the ball out of the air.

Randall is making steady progress in attempts to understand when to play the ball or body. He elevates and can high-point the ball, but again, thanks to his shortstop experience, he’s had a few thefts by using just one hand in jump-ball situations. In 2014, the game started to slow down for him and he showed valid instincts when asked to step up and deliver the big hit in the box.

Randall generally does a nice job of breaking down and wrapping up ball carriers in the open field. While his size and adequate strength say he might not be an in-the-box safety, as some teams fear he lacks the elite size and takes too long to get off blocks, he does show consistent pursuit angles and you are not going to see him caught out of position too often.

10. PHILLIP DORSETT | Miami (Fla.) 5096|185 lbs|4SR Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (St. Thomas Aquinas HS) 1/5/1993 (age 22) #4

BACKGROUND: A three-star wide receiver recruit out of high school, Phillip Dorsett held over a dozen scholarship offers, choosing Miami (Fla.) over Florida, Notre Dame and North Carolina. He saw the field as a true freshman, including one start, but emerged as a playmaker in his sophomore season, leading the Hurricanes in every receiving category with 58 catches for 842 yards and four scores. Dorsett started the first six games of 2013 as a junior before a left knee injury sidelined him for the next five games, finishing the 2013 season with 13 receptions for 272 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He returned healthy in 2014 as a senior and led the team in receiving yards (871) and receiving scores (10), earning Second Team All-ACC honors. Dorsett earned an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: Above average athleticism with speed to stretch the field…has no problem hitting the turbo button with multiple gears downfield…sudden off the line of scrimmage to beat press and gain a step vertically…game-changing acceleration when he gets space to work, weaving through the secondary with vision to quickly eliminate pursuit angles…shifty footwork and silky smooth moves as a ballcarrier…nice job locating and working back to the ball, preferring to attack with his hands…willing blocker and tougher than he looks, working the middle of the field…led the Hurricanes in receiving the two seasons he was a starter and healthy – one 200-yard and seven 100-yard receiving games…some experience as a punt (25/136/5.4/0) and kick returner (25/477/19.1/0)…has received high marks from his coaches for his improved team leadership and practice habits – was one of the team’s top workers by his senior season.

WEAKNESSES: Size isn’t a strength with average-at-best height/length, lean-framed body type and limited bulk…not the most natural hands or focus and will have some easy drops…needs to do a better job at the catch point to slow and use his body to shield defenders from the ball, taking advantage of his extension to finish catches…needs to add polish to his route running with some tight footwork and lack of diverse stem releases…needs to better keep his feet at the contact point…can improve his ability to direct traffic as a ballcarrier, unnecessarily running into blockers or defenders – room to improve his field awareness to better know what’s going on around him…can be re-routed when defenders get their hands on him…holds the ball loose and ball security needs to be improved (five career fumbles)…unreliable as a blocker on the perimeter – doesn’t break down or square up, lacking the technique or muscle to sustain…questionable judgment as a return man and no sure-thing to survive on special teams in the NFL…some durability due to his size and past injuries – suffered a partially torn MCL in his left knee (Oct. 2013) and nagging quadriceps injury throughout his junior year.

SUMMARY: A teammate of Florida State wide receiver Rashad Greene in high school, Dorsett has elite speed with impact acceleration to burst out of his stance and turn on the jets to go get deep balls – at his best on vertical routes and crossers where he can catch in stride and let his speed go to work. While his acceleration is elite, his route-running and hand/eye coordination still need work, struggling with his technique in contested situations and as a blocker. Dorsett led Miami in receiving the two seasons he was a healthy starter (2012, 2014), but his special teams impact was disappointing and the durability concerns cannot be ignored due to his size and limited bulk. While he still needs work, Dorsett has the “see-ya” speed and instant acceleration to be a dangerous No. 2/3 NFL receiver – will be drafted higher than he should because of his outstanding speed.

4. Damarious Randall (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/damarious-randall?id=2552389), Arizona State Randall (5-11, 196) is the smallest player listed here, but he packs a serious punch as a tackler. This from his NFL.com draft profile (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/damarious-randall?id=2552389): "Inspired effort as a tackler, racking up 177 tackles during two-year stint at Arizona State. Looks to punish. Explodes into targets and jolts his victims." That's about as glowing a review of a prospect's physicality as you'll find. As for his agility and quickness for pass coverage, his pro day (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000477086/article/jaelen-strong-catches-everything-at-arizona-states-pro-day) gave him a chance to show NFL coaches he can do more than just stop ball carriers dead in their tracks (http://www.azcentral.com/videos/sports/college/asu/2015/03/06/24534731/).
NFL fit: Chicago Bears (http://www.nfl.com/teams/chicagobears/profile?team=CHI). Picking Kyle Fuller (http://www.nfl.com/player/kylefuller/2543681/profile) in the first round last year bolstered the Bears (http://www.nfl.com/teams/chicagobears/profile?team=CHI) at corner. This year, it's the safety spot where they'll need secondary help, and Randall could be a nice addition if the value is right.

Of course none of us were even looking at him...

The logical conclusion would be that we'd expect to play the slot receiver - but of course that probably isn't the case.

More than likely he's going to ride the bench behind Burnett and Ha Ha, and Ted can tell us what a great value he was at 30.

Will have to do some serious research on this guy before I flip out, but my initial reaction is - not going to help us much for a while.

7. STEPHONE ANTHONY | Clemson 6025|243 lbs|4SR Polkton, N.C. (Anson HS) 7/28/1992 (age 22) #42

BACKGROUND: A five-star linebacker recruit out of high school, Anthony attracted a lot of attention as a Parade All-American and narrowed his college choice to Virginia Tech or Clemson, choosing the Tigers on signing day. He played in 13 games (three starts) as a true freshman in 2011 and recorded 31 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. Anthony started his sophomore season as the starter, but lost the job and came off the bench in the second half of the season, finishing with 77 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. He became a full-time starter in 2013 as a junior and led the team in tackles (131), adding 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks, earning Third Team All-ACC honors. Anthony returned for his senior season and started all 13 games, finishing with a team-high 90 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, earning First Team All-ACC honors. He received an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS: Looks the part with a filled-out frame and good arm length…rangy speed and plays fast to cover a lot of ground…natural on his feet with the smooth movements to easily sink and redirect…highly aware defender with proper eye use…displays the functional strength to work through contact, filling hard at the line of scrimmage and disposing of bodies at the second level…attacks blocks aggressively and never quits on plays…physical striker and plays with violence, using his length to wrap and finish through the action…adequate pedal to drop and make plays in coverage with natural ballskills (14 passes defended, three interceptions)…locked in and focused with on-field results that are a product of his preparation, hard work and energy…consistent production as a starter, leading Clemson in total tackles the past two seasons.

WEAKNESSES: Inconsistent angles and lacks the lateral speed to make up for false steps – not a sudden pursuit player…needs to be more reliable finishing tackles in motion with overaggressive tendencies (shoot first, ask questions later)…inconsistent hand use and shed technique, too often lost in the crowd and not keeping himself clean…caught off-balance in coverage with a bad habit of using his hands to slow down tight ends and running backs, attracting flags – awareness, spacing and timing need refined…needs to improve his backfield vision while locked up, too easily losing sight of the ballcarrier at the point of attack…plays with tall pad level, exposing his body and making it too easy for blockers to engage and gain body position…predictable as a blitzer with a bland arsenal of pass rush moves.

SUMMARY: Anthony arrived at Clemson as one of the top recruits in the country and quickly found the field, but lost the starting inside linebacker job halfway through his sophomore season. He refined areas of his game to be more consistent and worked his way back onto the field as a junior, starting 25 games the last two years, leading the team in tackles both seasons. Anthony has a terrific blend of size/strength/speed with quick reads to break quickly on the ball against both the run and the pass, but will hesitate at times and take himself out of plays or be overaggressive and take himself out of plays – compares to Bruce Carter, both positively and negatively. He has some hiccups in coverage and with his angles due to inconsistent instincts, but he has the size/strength/athleticism profile for the NFL – shows starting potential as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 or 4-3.

2. MALCOM BROWN | Texas 6023|319 lbs|3JR Brenham, Texas (Brenham HS) 6/21/1994 (age 20) #90

BACKGROUND: A five-star defensive tackle recruit out of high school, Brown spurned offers from USC, Oklahoma and a dozen others to stay in state and commit to Texas. He saw playing time as a true freshman back-up in 2012, recording 25 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. Brown moved into the starting line-up as a sophomore, starting every game in 2013 and finishing with 68 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. He had his best season in 2014 as a junior and became the first Longhorn defensive tackle in three decades to lead the team in tackles for loss (15.0) and sacks (6.5), earning Consensus All-American and First Team All-Big 12 honors. Brown elected to bypass his senior season for the 2015 NFL Draft.

STRENGTHS: Looks the part with well-proportioned body thickness throughout…moves well on his feet with range to make plays away from the line of scrimmage…active upper and lower halves, displaying a quick punch and lateral footwork…very good get-off movements and initiates the action – proactive
penetrator, not reactive…forceful upper body to club and bully bodies in his path…anchors well in the run game, taking on doubles and resetting the line…nose for the ball with natural awareness, not taking himself out of plays…nice job breaking down in space and in the backfield, controlling his momentum on the move…gets his paws up to knock down passes at the line (six pass break-ups as a starter)…hard-working mentality with strong reviews from his coaches…low-key individual with mature make-up – married in May 2014 to his wife (Faith) with two children, his four year old stepdaughter (Rayna) and six month old daughter (Mayah)…wellbalance lifestyle, managing both family obligations and school while still earning consensus All-American honors on the field in 2014…productive and reliable résumé with 29.0 tackles for loss over 26 career starts, including versatile experience in both odd and even fronts.

WEAKNESSES: Only average arm length for his frame…quick first step, but needs to improve his snap anticipation to consistently fire off the ball…doesn’t routinely generate power off the snap and needs to rely more on his initial punch to create movement…stack/shed technique needs developed and his secondary quickness off blocks tends to wane…needs to be a more reliable finisher in tight spaces…relies on natural gifts to slip blockers and needs to show more tenacity and thought into his bland pass rush arsenal – unimpressive secondary moves.

SUMMARY: A three-down defender who can handle a large snap load, Brown played mostly nose tackle as a freshman and sophomore, before lining up at the three- and five-technique spots as a junior – can legitimately play anywhere from the zero- to five-technique position in the NFL. He has a terrific blend of size, quickness and power to win in different ways and get better once certain areas of his technique are tweaked. Brown is a responsible and mature individual who is motivated to support his family and should have no problem balancing his personal and professional lives. He has the scheme diverse skill-set that fits all 32 teams at the next level, making him a high demand prospect with a lot to offer – top half of round one grade.

From NFL draft tracker on Randall:

While he has the speed and athletic traits to transition to cornerback, his cover skills and technique need quite a bit of work to be ready for the NFL level. Randall has a nose for the ball and a strong desire to make an aggressive tackle in space, so there could still be teams that give him a legitimate shot at safety, where he carries a higher draft grade.

That's been the case for decades... the Packers as an organization are, in general, not good at evaluating defensive talent. Ted's only saving grace is volume - throw enough spitballs at the wall, and some will stick.

That said, the only one he really hit on was Matthews. Our starting corners for the past years were both FA's - so Ted doesn't get any drafting credit for them; Peppers was an UFA; and the wave of front seven players he drafted high have been okay, without hitting any home runs - maybe Daniels.

If Randall can play CB, and ends up starting outside - then it's not a wasted pick; but if he's not better than a slot, nickelback - then he's a wasted pick.

How do you not give him credit for Tramon or Sam?

oh has he ever played CB? they only said safety

He doesn't have to be in slot if he can cover wide. Hayward and Hyde can move inside. They must think he can cover wide if he is replacing House or Tramontana.

That's just it... he's how tall?? 5'2"??

You seriously going to line him against Calvin Johnson or Kevin White??

How are his hips?? I'll have to look at him a lot more before I say one way or the other... but I'm not encouraged by what I'm seeing initially.

If he can play corner?? Great - not a completely wasted pick, but I thought we'd given up on midget corners?? I guess not...

Sam was a UDFA--Ton of teams wanted him. Either we outbid others or we had a nice recruiter. I think it's safe to say TT was not the recruiter

Was T Williams drafted ? Can't even remember anymore. I thought TT drafted him.....am I wrong ?

So you get starters without a draft pick, after the draft as rookies, and that credit does not accrue to the scouting department and GM?

He's 5' 11(7/8)" according to Scout.com. That's taller than Tramon and he goes 196, so that's heavier too.

I liked Damarious but I never even considered some team might see him as a corner. He certainly looks the part and works out like one. Can you even name a single college safety who moved to corner in the modern NFL??? WOW.

I thought Damarious would go in the 20's simply because of the existence of Earl Thomas. An elite center fielder in the NFL is like an extra player on the field. If he doesn't work out at corner at least we've got a solid plan B.

OK, I concede on Tramon. He went somewhere else first (Jags) and Packers snatched him up. But you have to count a UDFA who starts as a rookie for the team that signed him as a GM/scouting win.

Jimmie Ward. Spot on. When was he taken? Randall seems like a Jimmie Ward that can actually cover.

Excerpts from the conference call:

Randall: I have a background of both, i can play corner or safety. Whatever the coaching staff feels I can play to help the team. It was mixed. 12 teams talked straight corner and eight maybe safety. It was their choice.

Randall: I can play both. Corner is fun to be on an island. Safety controlling the back end can be fun, too.

Randall: Every when I was at safety we played a lot of zero coverage because we blitz so much.

Randall: I was coming in as a corner, but we sat down and they said we need you at safety. We do not have a safety and asked me to play that role.
