Probably won't see starters much. The battle for the #2 RB position may be the most interesting today. This will be the last chance for Fergy and Gardner to show that they should start ahead of Jennings. I'm also hoping to see Ruvell Martin do in a game what he's been doing in practice.

On defense, I'm hoping to see some improvement from Marquand Manuel. Hopefully what we saw last week was a result from a lack of playing time. Expect to see a lot of Tyrone Culver and Mike Hawkins. It will be interesting to see if Poppinga is ready to push Ben Taylor for the starting SAM position. [/b]

What is the deal with Ruvell?

I have not seen enough of the games to know if he is not getting the playing time, if he is not getting seperation, or if the QB's are just not getting him the ball.

I think it would be a good idea to throw possible promising players in with the 1st or 2nd units for a few plays in pre-season to see what they can do.

Titans have been pretty bad this preseason, Volek may get cut, I would guess Collins isn't ready to play...this is a game that Green Bay should win at home.

I can't watch. I'll be in front of this pc though. I assume WTMJ is streaming the audio broadcast?

Is there a play by play on packers.com or nfl.com for this game?

I haven't gotten to it to check if they were gonna do that for the pre-season yet. Thanks Rastak.

I just checked the WTMJ site and they have the countdown to kickoff but nothing stating that they'll be streaming the game.

I can't imagine they won't but I'd like to know for sure.

Who put up the audio link for the Cincy game? MJ??

Yeah, I raised this question earlier in the week. In practice, he's 3rd on the team in receptions in 11-on-11 drills, but he's caught one pass in 3 pre-season games. He should get his chance today though, as I imagine they'll pull Driver pretty early.

Already setting it up so you can downplay today's victory, huh? This from the guy who likes to brag that the Vikings beat the defending Super Bowl champions in their preseason game--without acknowledging that neither Big Ben, Willie Parker, nor Hines Ware played more than one series. You also stated that the Vikings beat Dallas's starters yesterday 7-3 in the first half--without acknowledging that Drew Bledsoe and Terrell Owens didn't play much.

BTW, Brett Favre is going to play one series, Ahman Green isn't going to play, and you aren't likely going to see some of the front liners play that much. Aaron Rodgers vs. Vince Young for most of the game. Seems pretty even.

True that....but, for some reason the Titans have had our number. Since '98, when we beat them at the end of the season, they have destroyed us in reg. season and preseason numerous times. They are to us what the Giants have been to the Vikings.

Why is this game being played in the middle of a Friday afternoon?

Is it because they don't want to compete with high school football?

Seems I remember something to that effect.

Yeah thats what they said. They would have played yesterday, but league rules state you need 3 full days between games.

Yea, that makes it pretty meaningless if the starters don't play much.

Anyway, are you suggesting that Tennesee is real tough? The battle of second stringers is a crap shoot, that's for sure.

As for Bledsoe, word out of Dallas is Romo may be the starting QB very soon, and he played damn near four quarters. Anyway, all this preseason stuff is pretty irrelevent in the long run as you know. Just like you take some good things out of each game, I do the same. Vikes did some good things on the road, did some bad things...we'll see how it goes when the gloves come off next week.

Romo has no shot of replacing Bledsoe soon--unless Drew gets injured. They like him as the backup and future starter, but Parcells said that was a bunch of BS from the media. I believe him on this one.

These games are ALL meaningless.

I have a feeling you might see some empty seats today. Beginning of the last major weekend in summer. those from WI know that our summers can be short lived.....and with the Labor Day Weekend, it can be in the 40's or the 80's....ya never know. With an absolutely pefect forecast...you can bet that alot of people are headed to the northwoods this weekend. Also, it's 3 pm, those that aren't out of town are working.

The last Packers draftee in the first four rounds who was released during his first training camp and never spent any time with the club in any category was nose tackle Rollin Putzier. That was 18 years ago. Vice president Tom Braatz and coach Lindy Infante drafted him in the fourth round out of Oregon and then let him go on Aug. 29, 1988.

Last season, only four rookies in the National Football League who were drafted within the first four rounds were waived in camp. The list included two third-round choices, Carolina defensive tackle Atiyyah Ellison and Denver running back Maurice Clarett, and two fourth-round wide receivers, Craphonso Thorpe of Kansas City and Fred Gibson of Pittsburgh.

Your point? I said they have most of their starters in--except at QB. Young and Collins have both played.

I can see the headline now. Green Bay loses to Tennessee. No mention will be made of the fact that our starters didn't play much and they went 14 straight on us when it was mostly starters against backups. That's why I want the win because of the publicity, but it ain't gonig to happen today--especially if the keep most of their starters in much longer. This is painful to watch. I want to see our backups against their backups. I wanna win, man.

I think we should have played them because we could have won this game. Now, panic will set in--even amongst Packer fans who can't watch this.

Notice anything here. This is the Titans second series.

C.Brown left end to TEN 32 for 5 yards (C.Cole, A.Hodge).
C.Brown up the middle to TEN 35 for 3 yards (A.Carroll).
C.Brown right end to TEN 35 for no gain (C.Cole, A.Hodge).
C.Hentrich punts 40 yards to GB 25, Center-K.Amato. G.Jennings to GB 25 for no gain (S.Tulloch; K.Amato).
PENALTY on GB-A.Carroll, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at TEN 35 - No Play. Penalty on GB, Illegal Block Above the Waist, declined.
V.Young pass incomplete deep middle to D.Bennett.
V.Young pass short left to B.Troupe to GB 44 for 16 yards (R.Manning, T.Boger).
C.Brown left end to GB 43 for 1 yard (T.Boger).
V.Young pass short middle to B.Wade to GB 30 for 13 yards (T.Culver).
C.Brown right end to GB 27 for 3 yards (D.Tollefson).
V.Young scrambles left end ran ob at GB 21 for 6 yards (R.Manning).
C.Brown left guard to GB 17 for 4 yards (B.Poppinga, T.Culver).
V.Young pass incomplete short left to C.Brown.
T.Henry left end to GB 16 for 1 yard (B.Poppinga).

Not one defensive starter in the game for Green Bay. In the second series.

This is the Packers 4th offensive series:

S.Gado left tackle to GB 11 for no gain (D.Thornton).
S.Gado right tackle to GB 14 for 3 yards (K.Vanden Bosch, C.Hope).
A.Rodgers sacked at GB 10 for -4 yards (T.LaBoy).

They still had their starters. It's impossible to get a read when games go like this. If it's starters on starters, then you get a decent read (although no game planning). If it's backups on backups, then you get a decent read on depth. Starters on backups? No team in the NFL is going to win that battle.

Ok Havery, you're right. Wow! When do you find time to watch the game? Good work.
