Quarless' absence from camp was due at first to a family situation, which M3 later amended to a "serious family emergency".

"I don’t take this organization for granted and I don’t take my position for granted," Quarless said. "I’m just really, really thankful. That’s the main word I can really use is thankful for this group of guys. I promise you this: There’s something special in here and I think it’s going to help us chasing this Lombardi. It’s a special group of guys.

"It’s really a family in here. It’s really a family."
I hope Quarless is referring to some particular close friends, because the Packers are not a family. Dad & mom, Ted and Mike, might be thinking about cutting him yet this summer. I wonder if he has anybody he can count on, not everybody does.

RIP. That's one of the worst things a parent can experience.

Just because they may cut him doesn't mean they aren't personally supportive (Also, Mom and Dad may kick you out the door and it may ultimately be for your own good if we extend your analogy); he probably is also referring to friends on the team - teammates and position coaches.

I don't think he's referring to the front office and coaches. I think he's referring to his teammates. There was a lot of speculation that his newborn was in danger or had already died, because the tone that McCarthy had used to describe his absence was originally happy/jovial, but then the next day, he was more solemn when asked again.

He was seen today getting hugs from a lot of his teammates. For a guy like Q, considering his summer and recent family nightmare, his teammates are a source of strength right now, at least I'd think.

I knew that Quarless had troubles at Penn State, so guess I jumped to conclusion that he must have come from a troubled home. Apparently not so. He is close with his dad, who is a chemistry professor. He comes from devout baptist family. (From experience with Wist, the chemistry association did set-off a slight red flag.)
