pittstang5

Red Zone woes continue

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 06:47 PM
Catch that Eddie. Nelson mugged.

Striker
08-13-2015, 06:47 PM
"Great defense" = "knock the WR over and stay on top of them".

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 06:47 PM
Red Zone woes continue

Nelson was decked, should have been first and goal at the 1.

Rutnstrut
08-13-2015, 06:49 PM
Could be a lot worse start for preseason, I don't worry too much about this offense.

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 06:50 PM
Here comes the 2-4. Wist on suicide watch early.

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 06:51 PM
Nice punt return for Monty.

TravisWilliams23
08-13-2015, 06:52 PM
They won't show anything but vanilla all night. Just want to see who might secure a roster spot.

esoxx
08-13-2015, 06:53 PM
You can tell this is a preseason game. Red's not drunk and pbmax no where to be found.

You would never see such lack of commitment in the regular season.

esoxx
08-13-2015, 06:55 PM
Horrible spot.

pittstang5
08-13-2015, 06:55 PM
Nelson was decked, should have been first and goal at the 1.just having fun

YES..wtf!

I'm just having fun though...i'm not too worried about the offense, but it does look like NE secondary is pretty good considering who they lost.

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 06:55 PM
Horrible spot.

Rutnstrut
08-13-2015, 06:55 PM
Why Starks on short yardage and not Lacy the bull?

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 06:56 PM
Didn't pick up a yard. Turn over on downs.

esoxx
08-13-2015, 06:56 PM
No movement at all by O-line on that 4th down run by Starks.

pittstang5
08-13-2015, 06:57 PM
Why Starks on short yardage and not Lacy the bull?

McCarthy getting cute? oh wait, not McCarthy

esoxx

Horrible spot.

Is there an echo in here? Lol

TravisWilliams23
08-13-2015, 06:57 PM

TravisWilliams23
08-13-2015, 07:55 PM

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 07:55 PM
Let was a bad blocking by the OL.

Harlan Huckleby
08-13-2015, 07:57 PM

Montgomery with a good catch.

TravisWilliams23
08-13-2015, 07:59 PM

Harlan Huckleby

Ahh, better to curse the darkness than light a single candle.

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 08:05 PM

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 08:07 PM

I am traveling and, not as promised, NFLN nowhere to be found in motel. I'm am going to write a 4,000 woodblockian post about it on Yelp.

I can get the OWN network and 32 cable access channels. But not the NFLN network. Business model fail. Might buy Game Rewind right now to let capitalism succeed again.

Maxie the Taxi
08-13-2015, 08:30 PM

Joemailman
08-13-2015, 08:30 PM
Let's not for get Gunter with the pick. Goodson better get healthy quick.

ThunderDan
08-13-2015, 08:31 PM

last half we had to call a special teams time out............FIRE ZOOK

Sometimes think I'm the only Badger fan on the forum that bleeds Red and White Homerism

I do think I'm the only Badger fan in here who still doesn't drink the Tolzien Kool Aide. I just don't see it.

Great Guy....best student of the game he can have...kind of like a teachers/coaches pet....but NFL talent...I don't see it

Truth be told as I was typing that I could only think of you and Cheese Head Craig . He just seems to maximize his limited ability. The upside seems so low. I just don't see ever wanting him to be on the field.

Harris' TD was the slowest play I have seen in a while.

There is a box score on NFL.com is you click analyze. Full one on that tab.

James White looks good as a 3rd down pass catcher Bretsky. But Tolzien seems much better since his time with M3.

I love that there might be another pass rusher on the depth chart. Will make a huge difference in case of injury.

James White has a lot of value in Hoody's offense. Abbrederis route running skills would IMO thrive there too.

Tolzien...IMO....he's gotta be MM's favorite....first guy there...last guy to leave. He does everything right and knows the game better than about 100 percent of backups in the NFL. But ability wise....I'm not sure he can ever get there to where we want him playing against starters.

Not arguing about ST's topside. But he is a better QB today that last year. Argues he could become decent backup. No, he would not be the starter you want after Rodgers is done, but that isn't his job description.

pittstang5
08-13-2015, 09:07 PM
I'm glad McCarthy Challenged, his knee was down and the ball was at least 1/2 yard shy of where they marked it.

Rollins looked good; Burnett flashed up and killed a run with a hard/solid tackle - Palmer allowed the blocker to get into him, and would have been completely blocked out of the play, not a good play from Palmer; Bradford overran a run to the outside and instead of being able to bracket/tackle the ball carrier, he instead took out the DB (Faron I think), and the runner was able to shake free for a 1st down.

Overall, not bad for the first night out.

Bretsky
08-13-2015, 09:37 PM

Backup is our draft pick; way more upside that Tolzien....and if either plays extended time we're screwed

The best thing that ever happened for the rest of the NFL was when the stud GM...aka..Scott Pioli left. Him and Hoody Genius worked together but he deflected a lot of Hoody Genius worst moves and tendencies.

If Pioli is still there IMO you can add a couple more titles for NE

There's no illegal contact when a QB rolls out, so if they do it in the red zone, pound the receiver. PI can still be called, so you have to be careful.

You really should look at his last five to seven drafts and analyze his picks. You'd agree with me. Numbers wise his hit/miss rates are pathetic. He has Brady and a brilliant coaching staff. He's added all these picks over the years....and then made some trades that would appear to be great on paper...but the reason they have not won more Super Bowls is because he misses on a very high majority of his draft selections.

Last year they had a great signing....kind of lucky...in Derrell Revis.

Without that free agent signing they don't win the SB.

Sure, but FA is a part of being a GM. It is a tough argument to make that the team's football management isn't premier, from the top of the organization to the bottom. They really have been tremendous the past 15 years. Imagine how many more SBs Peyton would have if not for those pesky NE teams.

I'm going deeper and drawing implications

Far more dominant when Hoody had a good GM to go along with the top coach

They remain good; still one of the top franchises similar to Green Bay....make the playoffs every year....and bound to win a title or two along the way

But NE as the dominant force in the NFL no longer exists

I agree. Seems Packers were getting bad spots on the ball too - at least two times IIRC. What really irritated me was the 4th down run by Jimmy G. He was a good 1/2 yard to a yard from getting the 1st down, plain as day, and the line judge gave him a terrific spot. I know it's preseason, but I'm glad MM challenged.

Couple things I noticed

Gunter had a good game. I've read good things about him in practice and it showed on the field. He had one bad play, he and Bradford whiffed on a tackle. Maybe Bradford took him out of the play - I'll have to rewatch. His coverage was very good.

Rollins - Two almost INTs. Gotta hang on to them Rookie, but his coverage was pretty good. I saw him get grabby a couple times, so he better watch that.

Raji - Looked like a damn wrecking ball at times.

Jake Ryan - Played great. TFL and a sack I think

Elliot - His motor never stops. Loved watching him last night.

Ya I saw a few times where Rollins was grabbing and making it even worse is that he was going high and going for the shoulders. If you're going to do that you have to at least go low and make it less noticeable.

Elliot shows a lot of effort. My only concern is it seemed like he was going wide quite a bit.

Things to improve:

Red Zone - Maybe NE is just that good, they were pretty good against the Pack last year. Maybe the Pack was conservative and trying stuff out, but it can't continue into the season.

I didn't watch and re-watch the game as I've done in the past, but guys that stood out to me in that game were Josh Walker, Mike Pennel, Jayrone Elliott (he may only have outside speed, but he is an impressive athlete), Jake Ryan, Quentin Rollins, and Aaron Ripkowski (on special teams). Alonzo Harris had a TD run, but I thought he looked relatively pedestrian. LaDarius Gunter had an interception, but I thought he could have been burned a lot more if the QB had been given more time and was more accurate. I'm waiting to jump on his bandwagon. Kennard Backman may have hands of brick, but he has impressive athleticism. One no name who surprised me was Jean Fanor. He's a longshot, but he looks the part.

It's probably a little bit of both, but the QBs for both the Browns and the Bills are trash, imo. After watching the Bills defense last year, then getting Rex Ryan - I thought, Oh shit - all they need is a good QB and they can make a run. Alas, good QBs are hard to come by.
