This game is not even the best example with a 2 score lead and you can take the oppo down to no timeouts and 40 seconds left.

But why run left and risk the ball if that is the case? Kneel if you are just going surrender possession.

Well, Butkus went to 8 pro-bowls, played in same conference as Nitschke. That explains why RN had only 1 pro bowl.

Nitschke was named all pro (which has always been more prestigious than pro bowl) 3 consecutive years, named to 50th and 75th anniversary teams. dick was on the 75th team and was named all pro 6 times. their careers overlapped. Ray started his career a few years before dick. both were great. the great tommy nobis was there too.

I dunno if it's just shell shock from Seattle but I feel the same way. Defense flew around and played well for 2.5 quarters. Then they just sort of laid down. And the run calls were pretty lacking as well.

Nitschke was named all pro (which has always been more prestigious than pro bowl) 3 consecutive years, named to 50th and 75th anniversary teams (no butkus).

This is painful.

The question was why RN only went to 1 pro bowl.

Dick Butkus went to 8 pro bowls.

I would suggest that the reason RN only went to 1 pro bowl was that Dick Butkus was voted ahead of him those 8 years.

If you disagree, what is your explanation for RN only making 1 pro bowl?

I agree, it was miserable to watch. You have to keep running some in any event, but why keep banging head against wall? Starks had bad game, and the O-line wasn't opening anything up.

Didn't at least 2 middle LB'ers get named to the Pro Bowl for each team? 2 guys other than him were going every year but one.

And I will give wist this:

For whatever reason, assignment, his own protection, he is only playing press and he is not back pedaling much. But the basis for comparison I have is limited. Woodson was not usually in backpedal and neither was Harris. Tramontana could play off and man. Shields is mostly man.

Hayward is the only one who truly prefers to be off of his guy.

Is it scheme, assignment, choice or limitation?

Doesn't Perry allow guys to play whatever they are most comfortable with? I recall reading articles as much. Shields normally plays press, House press, Williams both but leaned towards off, Hayward off.

Yeah, but the odds on that go down when run is the only option. Which is another reason why I think they should pass out of that situation once in a while.

The best time killer was that 17 play KC scoring drive that got it to a 10 point game.

1. No interception by Rodgers at home.
2. Packer Defense with sack in 38 straight games.
3. KC streak of no touchdown passes to WRs.
4. Packers have never beaten the Chiefs at Lambeau.
5. Packers have yet to drop a pass this season.

Haven't read the thread, so I don't know if this was revisited, but those in bold remain streaks. Those in italics are broken streaks. And I confess, I'm not sure on 5, but RR dropped one, but I don't know if it counted as deflected. At very worst, the streak can be restated to say the WRs have yet to drop a pass.

Nitschke vs. Butkus isn't really a fair comparison. A couldn't care less about the Pro Bowl. Ray was 1st or 2nd team All-Pro seven times. Butkus did the same eight times. Ray was first team All-Pro in 1964, 1965, and 1966. Butkus came into the league in 1965. Both players made first team All-Pro in 1965. Ray (1st team) made it over Butkus (2nd team) in 1966. Butkus (1st team) made it over Ray (2nd team) in 1967. In 1968 Ray was entering his 11th year in the league (and past his prime)--while Butkus was in his 4th year (and in his prime). To put that in perspective, Butkus never made 1st or 2nd team All-Pro after his 8th year in the league (he made 1st or 2nd team his first eight years).
