Montgomery: It's just a sprain. X-rays were negative. Not ruling anything out. Staying prayerful and positive and just praying for the best. ... No promises, but not ruling anything out.

The Packers still must have felt good enough about Lacy's health to deactivate third-string running back Alonzo Harris, who had been active in the previous three games. Whatever the reason, Starks played well when he was called upon. Although Starks has battled injuries for years, his talent never has been questioned.
http://www.packersnews.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2015/10/19/packers-firm-eddie-lacys-reduced-reps/74230686/
Considering how banged up they were, putting Harris on inactive seems to indicate Lacy was better (if not 100%).
I wonder if this is a combo of getting Starks going again (he and Lacy are two completely different runners, one a zone guy, the other more Power O) or something that M3 thought would work versus the Chargers.

I for one am perfectly content to see that the Packers have something to work on during the bye week. 6-0 is certainly better than 3-3, but early-season dominance doesn't usually translate into late-season success these days.

Personally, I'd like to see Aaron Rodgers work on saying something other than "3 - 19" all the damn time. How about "2- 18" or "Ble - 19, your mother's undies" or something to throw the other team off.

I'm guessing they figured a dinged up Lacy could still pick up the blitz better than the rookie. Lacy also garners more respect from the defense than the unknown guy. If they needed a power run they could have put in Kuhn and Rip. If they can't gain a couple of yards with that combo, they have real problems.

Have you noticed he's been varying his idioms along with his cadence lately? 3-19 is still the most frequent but sometimes he just says "Ready, go!" Maybe that goes with the simplified game plan when lots of starters are out.
You don't throw the opponent off with a new idiom, you do that with dummy audibles like "New York bozo."

ames Starks took the first snap, officially giving him the start, but Eddie Lacy replaced him for the next six plays. Rather than a slight, it appeared to be more of an acknowledgment that the coaches felt Starks was the better choice to run the opening toss off tackle. It gained 25 yards in part because it was beautifully blocked but also because Starks beat FS Eric Weddle to the break point. He gained 19 yards after that. Would Lacy have got there fast enough to deny Weddle a clean shot? At his weight, probably not. Some personnel people guess he's in the 260-pound range.
Lacy looks slow and weak to me. If his ankle is okay, I think he's out of shape 5 games into the season. He says his ankle is okay. I know he's started slow before. I just hope he doesn't eat too much of his Mom's crawfish (He's talked about this before) during the bye week.

Patler has previously raised the specter of John Brockington. Lacy's career is likely to be short under the best of circumstances. If he drinks, eats, and refuses to work like a maniac in the off-season he will find out just how short an NFL career can be. He looked like a hungover, out of shape fatty on the fumble play. And I don't want to hear about no ankle neither.
Thank goodness Starks is eating gluten free and juicing.

McGinn on Janis: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/rating-the-packers-vs-chargers-b99599301z1-334452891.html
After playing 47 snaps in his first 1 ½ seasons, Jeff Janis replaced injured Ty Montgomery (ankle) and logged 40. He broke off a deep route adeptly for 46 yards, and turned a shallow crosser against a botched coverage into 33 by turning on the jets. His small-school background wasn't the only reason a player of his size and speed fell far in the draft. His routes aren't refined, he lacks body control and his hands are average. Yet, the stunning advances Janis has made as a cover man on special teams leads one to believe he might develop as a receiver.
I would trust in the development of Janis more if that same description couldn't be used on Year 2 J. Bush.

I think he is banged up and the weight, if it is indeed up, isn't helping.
But the Packers can't be too concerned, or they really did not plan to run much, because they deactivated Harris when they knew they wanted Starks to get extra carries.

I think Lacy will bounce back in the second half, he's been a slow starter every year. But damn, I really wish he would have taken his diet/conditioning serious in the offseason. He said he was going to do it, tried it for a week or 2, and then said it wasn't for him.

I wonder if Lacy's performance is partly why the Packers abandoned the run for much of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I think Starks' injury history makes them careful about giving him too much of a workload. They may have been saving him a bit. I expect Lacy to rebound, but I don't think his problems are all the ankle. He's going to shorten his career if he doesn't take conditioning more seriously.

Pretty sure early Favre had a cadence that had some meaning. Like it'd be blue-34 against a 30 front or blue-52 against an under front and so on.

I think part of that was because they planned to run Montgomery and Cobb a fair amount. They were using that package early and giving Ty some carries before he got hurt. It might also be part of why the game plan moved away from the run.

A lot of readers have been asking about cadences you use, whether they mean anything or if they have some personal significance...
Favre: "Most people use blue, green because it's just....Let me see, what's the best way to explain it. It's more rhythmic. Blue-18 is better than Black-18. A lot of teams use a black or red as a hot. When you hear that, there's an audible coming. And everyone's different. Some people when they say 'On 1,' it's really snapped on 1. Ours is more rhythmic. It's 'Blue-18, Blue-10, set-hut.' It all kind of runs together. I could use lavender is I wanted."
Fans were wondering if you do the same call since, like, Pop Warner or high school...
Favre: "Nah. It was probably...When I got here, under Mike Holmgren, the number you call is the actual defensive front and it even went back to Montana and those guys. It was was 'Blue-34' or 'Blue-43.' And so when I first got here, I had to do that. I don't know why they ever did that, but it was just, I guess, a way to keep the quarterback involved or whatever. The fronts you see nowadays, it would be 'Blue-52-wide-boss' for me. So it's just kind of evolved to 18 or 58. So...."
