View Full Version : My Brother's "Aaron Rodgers Conspiracy Theory" -- Does It Hold Water or Not?

My kid brother, Boyd, is 82 years old and he just sent me an interesting email. I'm wondering if he's going senile. Anyway this is his theory and his proposed wager. He wants me to bet my off-season's quota of Viagra (which is only 10 doses or less anyway). As a guy who idolized Vince Lombardi, I can't fathom this kind of heresy, but then again I can understand it coming from Boyd. When we go golfing, he refuses to play the ball where it lies.

Anyway here's what he sent:

Hey Bro!

It looks like my Aaron Rodgers conspiracy theory is holding water.

Do you think is was a coincidence that the Packers' road record in the playoffs is much better than their home record; that is because they've played more road games in warmer weather in the playoffs, and they should have won last season at Seattle.

After all, the last time they won the Super Bowl, they played every playoff game on the road.

And this season, how could they all of a sudden have gotten so bad after playing so well their first six games? Could it be that once they knew they made the playoffs, Aaron Rodgers' strategy for succeeding in the playoffs would be to NOT play in Green Bay in January, which meant they couldn't have the best record going into the playoffs, especially when the teams they were playing in the playoffs were warm Carolina, Arizona, and yes, even Seattle. Let's face it - Aaron Rodgers is a warm weather quarterback.

Then came Minnesota and a chance to play their first playoff game in warm Washington; all they had to do is lose to Minnesota the last game - it was guaranteed because it was the last game of the NFL season. The plan was working well until Aaron Rodgers found himself a short pass away from tying, and possibly beating, Minnesota, which would get them back in Green Bay the following week (the forecast for GB the next weekend was already predicting frigid conditions with even colder wind chills); suddenly Aaron Rodgers lofts a lollipop right to the defender in the end zone (watch that pass a few times, Maxie).

Suddenly, in Washington, Rodgers regains his MVP form and the Packers' offense, even without Jordy, is back.

I expect Rodgers to throw for over 300 yards Sunday, nothing like the Cardinals game a few weeks ago; after all, they actually want to win this game.

The only fly in the ointment would be if Seattle beat Carolina, and the Pack win and would have to return to frigid Lambeau field, where Seattle is more prepared to play in the frigid conditions than the Pack, as Seattle played in even colder condition just a couple weeks ago.

I know you say, Maxie, that the Packers are always better when they HAVE to win; I say they Pack alway play better when Aaron Rodgers WANTS to win - it's no more apparent than this season.

I'd be willing to bet that Aaron Rodgers throws for 300 yards on Sunday, finds his "new found" weapon Abredaris, and the Pack goes on to a big win, hopefully in the warm confines of Carolina.

Weird, huh?

Brother Boyd

So, what do you know-it-alls think? Is Brother Boyd senile? Should I take the bet?

Don't take the bet. I think he'll have a big day, just not for the reason your brother mentioned.

Take the bet.

I'd take the bet, though there is a decent chance he wins despite being wrong about everything else.

The bet is way too vague. Tighten it up to protect yourself.

Few points:

1) If the theory is correct, and If Rodgers loves the nice conditions so much, why did it take so long to get started in Washington, when they needed to win?

2) It is so outrageously loud in AZ, I can't imagine anyone wanting to play in that.

3) If Rodgers threw the Bears game, I find out about it, and I meet him, I will stuff the signed ball I got as a gift down his traitorous throat.

Finally, I kinda like the theory, because I don't think many of any players on any teams enjoy playing in the cold, especially the players who depend on their hands.

^ Should also consider the regular seasons from 2011 through 2014.

Maxi, just make sure your bro has his nitro on hand during the game.

Your brother's 'theory' is well suited for spreading on corn fields.

Boyd sure has a lot to say. I got thru first 3 pages. You're lucky you left home before he came along - bet he was a yacky handful to babysit.

Maxie, is your brother Boyd Dowler?

Maxie the Taxi

I decided Rand is right so I'm not betting. If the Pack wins, there would be no way to settle it, because we'd both be betting on the Packers to win. (Not the stupidest thing we ever done, though.)

Cumby's probably right too. More than likely Boyd's mixing his cholesterol medicine with Miller Lite again. And, yeah, Fritz, Boyd Dowler is his internet handle. We've been WR bookends since our days of playing football in the snow in the backyard.

Harlan, I don't remember Boyd yacking much, but I do remember helping ma change his diapers. Now, I think, Boyd does that by himself. :-)

I had a premonition along these lines. The protection is likely to be better this time around. I also think he's lately come to accept certain things about the offense this year and is ready to run what they brung.

Plus, he's far overdue for a legacy game.

I think I've already said too much. LOL. Boyd was kinda famous in his day and he detests publicity. Plus, he can still kick my ass.

DOn't take the bet, you're brother is trying to screw you over

if he thinks 21-36 for 210 yards against a piss poor d is a-rod "regaining his MVP form", then arod going 10-40 for 105 yards will probably be a big day to him on one he will try to collect on

it can't be understated just how much better the cardinals defense is then the redskins this year

Maybe I should go back at him with some statistics, but I pretty much hate statistics. I think players can blow a game subconsciously, but I just can't see a guy like Arod blowing one on purpose. His last few interceptions are tough to explain though. Uncharacteristically Brent Farvish.

I don't think Rodgers will have a sterling statistical game, just as he hasn't had one in several games. I do think he'll do what many say he hasn't done enough of in several seasons of putting up ga-ga fantasy numbers: he'll make the plays when the game is on the line. It's what many of the outstanding playoff quarterbacks have done through the years and will be largely a complement to a strong pass rush and competent Packers defense.

I think he'll go for ~240, 2 TDs, and some timely rushes. It won't be pretty but it will be enough to win.

for those that don't think theres anything wrong with a-rod this year

you know how many 300 yard games he has this year through 17 games?

3

just one more then peyton manning who can't throw the ball further then 10 yards and missed half the season

3 less then eli who's full on retarded

4 less then brady

what we're seeing this year is a-rods worst year since he took over as a full time starter in completion %, yards, rating, yards per completion and by far his lowest yards per game total

all that, while having the MOST attempts of his career

he's not the same player this year, and i don't expect him to figure it out finally for the game today
