So when are waivers awarded?

FritzDontBlitz

waiver deadline was 11 am today. supposedly the pack put in a claim for at least two players and are 5th from the top of the waiver list....

"According to Thompson, the Packers have until 11 a.m. today to submit a claim. Priority when two or more claims are made goes to the team with the worse record in 2005. "

that's from an article called "pick and choose time" on jsonline.com.....

patty over at packerchatters (who i thik is pretty damn credible)

is saying that she's heard through league people that the packers have talked with liwienski

that we put in a claim for a cb/s

that we had chances to trade for vet players, but TT did not want to give up draft picks

that we are interested in ron dayne

and we might be bringing in a couple of qb's for looks

Hell no to Ron Dayne! He's a complete stiff. I'm glad he had a good year last year--mostly his yards/carry was helped by one long run that I could have ran through for 50 yards.

Why is he a stiff?

I think its worth a shot to bring in someone who is fresh in the Zone Blocking system we are running.

But now you guys got me all high on Ponder and I'm gonna be annoyed if we don't get him.

i really like the idea of ponder too. right now i think jennings is the best return man on the roster but bringing in ponder as the return specialist would be awesome......

The advantage with Dayne is he knows the ZBS. I'd rather have him than Herron. Imagine the cheer he'd get at Lambeau!

dayne would pack a serious wallop in the zbs if he's familiar enough with it after his time in denver.....

I think Tyrone Calico is the most talented WR let go w/o serious background issues. I think he might be Green Bay's 3rd most talanted WR.
That surprised me

Ponder was a nice special teams player and capable WR; the Ideal #4-5.

I'd be happy with either of them.

But my guess is TT is looking for young projects with serious upside who won't help us that much this year.

Ron Dayne

2000 = 3.4 yards/carry; just 3 receptions in 16 games
2001 = 3.8 yards/carry; just 7 receptions in 16 games
2002 = 3.4 yards/carry; just 8 receptions in 16 games
2004 = 3.4 yards/carry; just 1 reception in 14 games
2005 = 5.1 yards/carry; just 3 receptions in 10 games

So, last year was fluke--especially if you consider he had a 55 yard run that you could drive a truck through. That tends to skew the stats when you only get 50 carries. You take that run away, and he only averaged 4.1 yards/carry. That with one of the premier OLs in football. He's a stiff. Take off the Badger Red goggles. His career rushing average is 3.7 yards/carry and he has just 22 receptions in his career in 72 games.

We could use anouther RB after losing DevenPOOP and he seems like the obvious choice. And I am a Hawkeyes Fan :cool:

Houston Texans have already announced their pick ups, so things are moving, couple more guys released too from Houston.

This is what it means to be a fan: you're on pins and needles what two or three guys they're going to bring in to be the 51st, 52nd, and 53rd guys on the roster.

Count me in, baby. I love it. Alex, I'll take Chris Liniewski, a return specialist and a wide receiver or safety for two hundred.

Tony Palmer. Okay, when he's a key cog in the Packers' 2009 Super Bowl run, just remember that me and Falco were right on it. Go Tony Palmer!

Tony Friggin' Palmer? Another rookie when we need a veteran like Chris Liwienski on this team?

And Herron is like oil on water?

HarveyWallbangers

I'd take Noah Herron over Ron Dayne. That's how pedestrian Dayne is. He's a big guy who doesn't run physical. They are both slow, but at least Herron can catch the ball and is willing to block.

Here's a thought for all of you guys, heard this on the radio this morning...the reason not many teams are going after Charles Rogers in particular, is because he was put on waivers, and if you claim a guy off of waivers, you take on his contract, which in Rogers case, is kind of big. Same goes for Lewinski from Minnesota. So I believe it's today they officially go off of waivers (or something, i could be wrong) but then look for some of those guys to get signed quickly.

The Chicago Bears announced they signed WR Mike Hass to their practice squad. Mike Hass a Bear(ugh!)

The San Diego Chargers also signed QB Brett Elliot of tiny Linfield College in McMinnville, OR to their practice squad. Elliot led Linfield to the NCAA Division III Championship victory last year.

Prior to his Linfield experience, Elliot was the starter at Utah ahead of Alex Smith before he got hurt. After recovering from his injury he transferred to Linfield and starred there.

Poster Scott Campbell thinks very highy of Elliot.
