I just (and I mean like 30 minutes ago) found out while doing some genealogy research that I have a 3rd cousin once removed that is a member of the Packers Hall of Fame.

First clue:

He was an all american for two straight years for the University of Minnesota.

Nope, good player Gale was though.

This guy was also a Navy lieutenant on a PT boat in WWII.

No question whatsoever he's a blood relative....however, for some reason I bleed purple and always will.

Hmmm. He haunts Packerrats. He finds out he's related to a Packer hall of famer.

Come to the dark side, Ras. We await.

Cool, but I think I will wait until I get home to check the guy out. Googling 'Wild Dick' is probably not the best idea at work.

Here's an interesting Cliff Christl article from packers.com on Dick Wildung: http://www.packers.com/news-and-events/article-cliffs-notes/article-1/Dick-Wildung-One-of-NFLs-last-two-way-players/d03f78ea-7075-4621-922b-cbee019d9340

Cool, thanks Carolina.

This was awesome:

"I got out of my seat and was walking down the track to get up to the radio booth. (Darn), if (Stansauk) doesn’t come out of the stands and yell, ‘Hi, Dick.’ He said, ‘Dick, don’t ever tell anybody Hard Boiled Haggerty was a football player.’ I said, ‘Don, I’ll never tell anybody you were a football player.’ I didn’t think he was.”

Dude had a pretty full life, and lived to be 85! Nice.

It says he played tackle in college, then TE in the pros. That move usually goes the other way in the modern NFL.
