How the braintrust ended up with another Minnesota running back.

And for all that tension and research and debate and brain work, this is what they got:

Year Age Tm Pos No. G GS Ret Yds TD Lng Y/R Rt Yds TD Lng Y/Rt APYd AV
1997 23 GNB 44 14 0 4 68 0 20 17.0 68 1
Career 14 0 4 68 0 20 17.0 68 1

Basically, the dude returned four kickoffs for an average of 17 yards per return and along of 20, I think.

No kidding Fritz. All that effort went into picking this kid and he lasted one year without ever carrying the rock once. Here's what he's been up to lately,

"On Wednesday, February 24, 2016, Darkins was arrested in Houston, TX for his alleged role in a drug trafficking and money laundering ring."

Those Gopher RB selections were a complete cluster*$@&.

It's a good reminder for all of us - we gnash our teeth and throw things at the TV when Ted passes on "our" guy, or we high-five and celebrate when Ted takes "our" guy, but in the end, it's not an exact science.

I was also reminded of this while I read some JSO story about defensive linemen from some past draft, 2013 or 2012 or something, and none of the names that were the big ones at that time - the ones we all were pissed that Ted didn't get - turned into rotational "meh" kind of linemen.

that was unilluminating and dull. The only thing I think had a ring of truth was the way Holmgren made picks - state a guy's name with a limp question mark at the end. That's probably how Cleveland got Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden. #thefutureisnow

Reminds me of when Michael Crabtree fell. I expected T2 to take him due to his otherworldly, surefire talent. Instead, he takes a defensive tackle who helps win a key playoff game the following year. And Crabtree? Mostly a meh career. I'll take it.

Partially agree. Nice to see who is there and having conversations. But would love to know more about the call Wolf got or the conversation between Wolf/Holmgren/Shurmur/Lewis.
