Thank you all.

My Maternal GrFa hunted Pancho Villa with Pershing and then served in the Great War.

My dad served with the Xth ID in Korea as an interpreter.

Both of my wife's GrFa served in 2, one Army Air Corps, the other USMC.

Mad would refer to it as the War of Northern Aggression.

Always interesting to hear about stuff like that:

My paternal grandfather served in WWI with the U.S. Army in Belgium.
My maternal grandfather served in WWI with the Russian army until Russia capitulated.
My father served in WWII with the Signal Corp (attached to the Air Force) from D-Day until the end of the war.
I have an uncle who was among the first U.S. troops on Omaha Beach. He was with the engineers.
I lost a cousin in Vietnam.
I have a brother -in-law who did 3 deployments in the Iraq War.
I have a nephew in the Air Force who just recently returned from a deployment in Afghanistan.

So...am I a bad person for getting mad when people start thanking veterans on Memorial Day? My family is full of Vets including myself...but that day is reserved for the fallen.

I get your point, Freak, but IMO any time we can remember to thank those who have served should be acted upon.

Thanks for your service, by the way!

My great (7x) grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War.
My great (4x) grandfather fought in the Civil War.
My grandfather fought in both WW I and WWII. The first as a soldier, the second as a chaplain.
MY dad fought in the Korean war.

I believe I am the first generation in our family going back to the 1760s who did not have to fight in a war.

I agree with you. What I posted about my family members I did after Memorial Day was over. There is push by many to try to turn Memorial Day into Veterans Day, which is not what it should be. I think Memorial Day should be 2 things. A day when he honor those who have fallen, and a day when we reflect on whether the wars we choose to fight justify the ultimate sacrifice. Unfortunately, for many Memorial Day has just become the last day of a 3 day weekend to kick off summer. Here in Wausau, they didn't even have Memorial Day Services on Memorial Day. They had them on Saturday. Maybe they wanted to get it out of the way so everybody could get on with their long weekend.
