Letroy Guion (knee), Clay Matthews (ankle/additional injury), Datone Jones (undisclosed) and Morgan Burnett (hamstring) did not practice.
Shields did some work Monday, none today.

According to Cohen's JSO story, Clay's other injury is a hamstring.

Packers missing five defensive players on Wednesday: Clay Matthews, Morgan Burnett, Letroy Guion, Datone Jones and Sam Shields. All but Shields (concussion) were at least watching practice. Matthews, Burnett and Jones were on the elliptical and bikes.

This game scares me. The Lions have a capable offense, while ours is a dumpster fire. If what is left of our defense at this point doesn't show up, we are looking at yet another divisional home loss.
I'm guessing at this point that we find a way to sneak past the pussycats, but I don't think it will be in a way that answers any of the questions about our offense.

If the Packers don't win this game, it might be time for some panic to creep into the fan base.
The Lions are hurt, and their offensive line is bad. I know that sounds like the Vikings, but this defense is not of that caliber. Ansah, their best defensive player (maybe Slay is close), is hurt and may not play. Andre Levy is hurt and may not play. Their other starting linebacker is out, too. As APB points out, Abdullah is out - they have only a scat back as a running back in Theo Riddick. Hali Ngata is slowing down.
Stafford has been playing well. But if the Packers can't beat this beat-up team at home, then there is some very real trouble in Green Bay - especially if the offense can't score again.

When Sherman ruled the Pack, and the Pack were facing "adversity", Detriot was the team that would always put the Pack out of its misery. Pack would slaughter the Lions in fashion, regain intrepidity, confidence and potency along the way. Pack would eventually make the playoffs - In fact, Sherman NEVER missed the playoffs as King/GM/Coach.
With the offense tanking in the face of adversity, McCarthy would be wise borrow some stuff from Sherman's playbook, literally and figuratively. Hell, run the U-72! Throw backward pass to TE who then throw TD WR! Slaughter the Lions! Regain intrepidity, confidence and potency!

Stafford is my favorite NFL QB after Ice Ice Ryan. Stafford would be #1 were he not a non-Packer NFC North QB.
As many of you know: I am a scout with a Master's from you-know-where. Here's my scouting report on Stafford: Has a rocket of an arm. Gunslinger through and through. Humble. Amicable. Benevolent. Antithesis of egomaniac. The much used noun "jerk" is never used to describe Stafford.
How nice of a guy is Stafford? If you tell him you have not engaged in coitus since Super Bowl 31, Stafford will take you to a bar, find the belle of the bar and say to said belle, "Hi, I am Matt Stafford, millionaire, football star, handsome fellow and man of virtue. I know I had you at millionaire and you're likely soaking wet right now, but if you want me, you gotta fuck my buddy here first."
Hopefully Stafford has a good game Sunday and the Lions lose. :)

Since Jim Bob Cooter became the OC mid last season, in 10 games Stafford has been fantastic. 69.3% completion percentage, 2779 yds, 23 TD, 3 INT, QB Rating 108.2.
I just don't know about all this talk that if it's not a 14 point win, the Pack should be embarrassed. I think that's unrealistic.

Those are some solid numbers. I hope it doesn't turn into a shootout because I doubt this version of the Packers offense could keep up.

That map chops off a solid chunk of northern WI and gives it to the Vikings. It has been that way for a few years now. I have many friends and relatives who are livid, as they are no longer able to see Packer games. On cable they previously were able to get the games, bot not under the current licenses. It makes no sense, because it is and always has been solid Packer territory.

Well, they'll need all defensive hands on deck so they can, like New England, win with under 300 yards of total offense, the difference the Packers will be doing so with their All-World QB.
I know I sound a little bitter right now. All the more reason for Rodgers and this offense to get back on track, so everyone can tell me "I told you so."

So that's not happening - with Burnett, Shields and Mathews ruled out, plus Guion and Jones listed as doubtful, that's 4 starters and a primary backup the defense is likely to be without.
At ROLB the next player on the depth chart is Fackrell. I haven't noticed him on the field during the regular season.

I wasn't feeling good about before taking away 4 more players on Defense. Now with a preseason defense and a dog-shit offense, it's looking more like Detroit will win by 14 instead of the Packers.

All the injuries on defense make it even more imperative that A-Rod be A-Rod once again. Time to take charge and carve up this Lions D. They're without their best pass rusher so should have time in the pocket.

It's because their stations come out of Duluth.
It's a bit more complicated than that. Their "over the air" major network TV has ALWAYS come from Duluth, but since cable TV first came into the area in the mid-1960s, the cable provider also carried more southern stations (Wausau, Eau Claire. Green Bay, etc.) in addition to the Duluth stations. As a result, the northern WI counties always had Packer games available to them, WI state news, etc.
However, a couple years ago the NFL apparently revised their rules to prohibit importing conflicting same-network games into the Designated Market Area (DMA) of another station. The FCC then included northern WI in the DMAs of the Duluth stations. The result is that whenever the Vikings and Packers play at the same time, the cable provider can not carry the WI channel. Some of these people have had Packer games available to them for 50 years; but now, because of rules changes, they miss a lot of games. For the most part, they have also lost WI based news, as I understand it.
The NFL has provided a solution for Packer games, individuals can subscribe to the NFL Ticket Package for $250.
At least, that is the way it has been explained to me.
