So much for the Green Bay Packers before the Tennessee Titans debaucle NO. 1 Ranked Run Defense.

The Packers were humiliated in Tennessee and walloped 47-25. If you want to see that again here you go:

Now.... about that Packers NO. 1 Ranked Run 'D' Vs the Titans then Ranked NO. 3 Rushing Game:

TENNESSEE TITANS:

D. Henry 9 31 3.4 0

Comment woodbuck27:

take away one 75 yrd run from ten and it's only dallas that really abused the d.

The stats are really skewed because of the one big 75 yd TD run. Take that big play out and those 2 only got 3.1 ypc. The run defense got clobbered out of the gate, but then did a very nice job.

The pass defense is what's the problem.

I meant to look at that. So, Murray was 1/75 and after that he was 16/48, while Henry was 9/31. Combined, 25/79 after their first play from scrimmage. The Packers can live with that, although some of that clearly came on expected running plays to burn the clock..

Please....take another look at Titan TE Delanie Walkers contribution (watch the Video). It's certainly considerable in this game:

Right. It didn't help not having Clay or Jake Ryan in there either.

I really think the whole #1 ranked run defense was a fluke or "fools gold". When they face a decent back and a decent o-line, they are exposed for what they are. Mediocre at the very best.

Plus, teams don't have to run the ball against the Pack, everyone can pass at will against that pathetic secondary.

it's been 9 games and as I said only one back has gone off on them. Elliot is way more than "decent" as is their o-line. the run d really has been good.

I bet if teams with decent backs and line would keep pounding the GB d-line you may not think that way. We just don't see a lot of that because they don't have to since a pee wee team could pass for 300+ against this secondary.

Unless you are ready to test every defense this way, this fictional scenario isn't very telling.

I should have added when you can't generate any pass rush and you have LaDarius Gunter covering a team's #1 WR you can make Marcus Mariota look like Tom Brady.

we can only play who's on the schedule and if someone just wants to run the ball we'll put eight in the box and the numbers will look even better for the Packers. our problem is pass d!

below is RBs only...

ten-26 carries for 154 (75 on one play)
ind-21 for 70
atl-17 for 55
chi-18 for 59
dal-28 for 159
nyg-15 for 42
det-20 for 47
min-20 for 35
jac-24 for 46

injuries and inexperience play into this of course but that's why i say stop the blitzing. keep help back in coverage and don't let them run free off the line. give them a fighting chance. oh...and mariota is no slouch. his passes were on the mark. in 10 games he's 21 tds, 8 ints, 2482 yds, 99.6 rating.

Rodgers so far in 9 games...22/7/2410/93.9

The run D is the one thing that isn't a tire fire.

I didn't know Mariota was playing this well this year because I don't see them play very often.
