After colliding helmet-first with Seahawks tight end Luke Willson on an incomplete pass with 10 minutes 41 seconds left in regulation, Matthews wasn’t on the field when the Seahawks scored twice to turn a 19-7 deficit into a 22-19 lead. After the Packers forced overtime, Matthews returned and was on the field for the Russell Wilson’s game-winning touchdown pass....

After the season, coach Mike McCarthy hinted that Matthews may have had an undiagnosed concussion, and at the NFL Meetings two months later, team president Mark Murphy acknowledged after the passage of the new concussion-spotting rule that Matthews likely would have been subject to medical treatment had a spotter been in place that day. It appeared as though Matthews intentionally avoided the training staff on the sideline that day, apparently hoping that the defense could hold the lead without him and that he could stay out of the concussion protocol that would’ve followed leading up to the Super Bowl.

The last line is a generous read, but Matthews could easily have needed that time to clear the cobwebs.
