So, if I recall, the way we normally do this is people choose which team(s) they are going to pick for. Packer pick is determined by a poll. Will there be enough participation for every one participating to pick for just one team? Do we need to make it 2 or 4?

5 Tennessee (from LA Rams)
6 NY Jets

With the first pick in the 2017 National Football League Draft, the Cleveland Browns select:

Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

Seriously, anything short of handing in Aaron Rodgers name on a card is possible with this group.

All the original rumors revolve around who wants Mitchell Trubisky (everyone thought it was noted Carson Palmer fan Hue Jackson). But the last round of gossip said it was the front office and Owner who were in love with the QB and the coaches were in love with Garrett. They do have incoming DC Gregg Williams who would love a pass rusher.

This is all bunk and smokescreen. Hue is a good coach, but he has no leverage after poor showing last year. Gregg Williams facial hair is still in a Federal Witness Protection program.

The Front Office (Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta) are trying to use analytics to give them a leg up on improving. They have adopted the baseball/basketball model of rebuilding and seem to love draft picks and letting older players go. This could give them the Raiders/Chiefs trajectory of improvement, or it could give them the Philadelphia 76ers.

Regardless, they love draft picks and spend $16 million on a 2nd rounder and a player to be named later from the Texans.

So the smokescreen is about trying to get people to hand over a Mike Ditka level of picks for the #1 overall.

But as there is not certified Hall of Famer or even near lock All Pro QB in this draft, no one is going to bite.

The Browns don't want another mediocre talent at QB while rebuilding with this #1. They will take the sure thing at DE, amass pics and wait for a Luck level talent to appear in a near future draft.

With the 2nd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select

Solomon Thomas - DE - Stanford

While the temptation to go QB is strong here, any QB in this draft would be a reach at #2.

BOTTOM LINE Explosive defender who combines strength, quickness, and a muscle-car motor to drive him around the field making play after play. Has the hands and feet to be a quick-win specialist and the size to fit as a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive end who can reduce inside for pass-rush downs. He has all the athletic traits to become a high-impact player and possesses more than enough skill and talent to believe he will continue to elevate his game as a pro. Thomas has the potential to become the best defender from this draft class and a future all-pro.

Joemailman
04-23-2017, 10:09 AM
With the 3rd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Marshon Lattinore - CB - Ohio St.

For better or worse, the Bears have hitched their wagon to Mike Glennon at the QB position. With no WR worthy of the #3 pick, and being in the same division as Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford, the Bears go with the best CB in the draft.

BOTTOM LINE Average-sized, one-year starter with explosive athleticism and a loaded tool box. He has the feet, hips and agility to be a lockdown cornerback and the ball skills to make teams pay for looking in his direction. His lack of experience could show up early, but he has the confidence and competitive nature that should help him overcome those issues. He has the ability to become a Pro Bowl cornerback early in his career.

Joe, what do you think of putting up a timetable on each pick, to get this done sometime Wednesday night?

People could plan to post then and we would give a heads up to posters about when the pick gets made for you.

If we want to finish late on Wednesday, we have 84 hours for 29 picks. Just under three hours per pick.

So Craig has until 5 PM to select at #4. BZnDallas then knows he can come back at 5 PM to pick in the worst case. Each late person gets no more than three hours, each prepared person could save us 2.5 hours easily. Overnight will screw this up a bit. Can play this by ear.

With the 4th pick in the 2017 Packer Rats Mock Draft the Jacksonville Jaguars select:

Leonard Fournette - RB - LSU

Blake Bortles needs help in taking his next steps to become a great QB and a powerhouse like Fournette can help him do that start taking this offense to another level. The Jags really need offensive help and Leonard will deliver it in spades.

Not many players come into the league already a full-on grown man like him, he's going to make an immediate impact.

BZnDallas
04-23-2017, 03:51 PM
With the 5th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft the Tennessee Titans select Jamal Adams - Safety - LSU.

Tennessee needs as much help in the secondary as anybody. Adams at number 5 is a no brainer. I'd have more but what hasn't already been said about Jamal Adams?

Joemailman
04-23-2017, 04:15 PM
With the 6th pick in the Packerrats Mock Draft The New York Jets-Jets-Jets select:

Mitchell Trubisky - QB - North Carolina

With only 1 year of experience as a college starter, he may not be ready as a rookie. But the Jets have a solid backup in Josh McCown, so this is a good situation for him.

BOTTOM LINE Trubisky is a high-end quarterback prospect who possesses NFL size, a big arm and the ability to throw with accuracy from the pocket or on the move. Despite playing in a spread-based offense, he's a full-field reader who does a very good job of getting an early read on the safeties before crafting his course of action. Trubisky will have to become much more pocket aware and do a better job of recognizing and attacking blitzes to back NFL defensive coordinators off. He hasn't put all the pieces together yet, but the puzzle is all right in front. Trubisky projects as a good starting quarterback with a high floor and the potential to be great.

Cincinnati ( Justin Harrell) is on the clock. I'm going to make the pick. We simply don't have the time to wait 8+ hours between picks.

With the 9th pick in the Packerrats Mock Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select

Jonathan Allen - DT - Alabama

Outstanding leader and athlete with an ability to rush the passer from outside or inside. Has produced against the run and pass thanks to his strength, agility, elite hand usage, and plus footwork. He might not be the cleanest fit inside as a full-time tackle for some teams, but his talent should trump any size concerns. Allen is a likely first-round selection with Pro Bowl potential down the road.

Buffalo (Guinness) is on the clock.

Doug Waley (or Russ Brandon? Who's in charge?) looks wistfully at Trubisky..he could've, should've fallen

Watson is briefly considered and dismissed. They'd like an OT but this doesn't seem to be the year for it.

Truly believing that the strong defense of two years ago can make a re-appearance they choose to pick the BofensivePA. The Bills select Mike Williams, WR, Ohio State

Sources Tell Us "Really pretty looking when you watch him down on the field but he's not there yet. I think he'll get there but he's not there yet. I don't think he's going to run as fast as people think. When college players get up here and find out that cornerbacks are faster and more physical, there is an adjustment period. I think it will take him some time to figure things out but I think he'll do it. He's going to be good, I just don't know if he's going to be a star." -- NFC Pro Personnel Director

Browns, despite all assurances of being calm, rational and not in a hurry, view their second first round pick as capital to be used to acquire a QB.

But the one that they have graded highest in the first round is gone (Trubisky). If this were to occur, they would want to trade down. But while QBs make teams crazy, no one is that crazy about these QBs this early. Only the Jets were contemplating moving up and the got their guy just by waiting.

Forced to choose a QB, its between, Watson, Mahomes and Webb. Watson doesn't seem to have a huge NFL upside. Mahomes has mechanics that make Jay Cutler look reliable. Webb has a second round grade, though he is pretty well rounded. But as an NFL QB, Webb might be Joe Flacco (which starts another kind of argument) or Nick Foles. With out a trade down, Browns also consider other positions here with Trubisky gone.

Best talent value on board is probably Howard, but the Browns have Barnidge. They need safeties but both the top ones are off the board. The filled a hole with an EDGE rusher already. They need a Tackle but that would be worse value at this spot than QB. They could use a WR and there is talent there though its not top ten locks. They also could use a corner.

I think Watson and Webb will make the analytic's guys nervous for two different reasons (Watson low upside with measurables, Webb with modest college success and failure to beat out Mahomes). Hue Jackson probably will try to convince people he can fix Mahomes sidearming.

Howard would help the offense even if the hole there isn't as huge as at WR. Highest rated WRs are both 15-20 pick rated: John Ross or Corey Davis. They have their pick of prospects outside of Lattimore at CB, but the value here might be second round given the depth.

With the 12th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns, who wanted to trade down, select:

OJ Howard - TE - Alabama

Alabama TEs world once marvelously for the Browns. They will try to strike gold a second time. Its also who the beat reporters want so they can recycle all their Ozzie Newsome stories.

On Earth2, Brice Arians, having won a Super Bowl after getting lucky by beating the Packers, needs to upgrade his offense and replace Palmer with a prospect he can mold and cement his QB Guru credentials. He would like Kizer, Mahomes and Webb to polish.

But on Earth Prime they didn't carry their luck forward and win a SB, which means while Arians' reputation is still good, he doesn't have the five year window a SB win would provide. They need a player who will contribute right away, not be a pet project. They will take a QB, but will Jet it by taking someone is Round 2 or later. They will then pray for the continued health of Palmer.

Beyond a successor for Palmer, Cardinals need O line help (Guard), corners, ILBs, D lineman and WRs.

O line quality is pure second round other at Guard. Corners will be plentiful later. Best D lineman are gone.

Value can be had at LB. They resigned Dansby though to replace Minter.

With the 13th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:

Reuben Foster - LB - Alabama

With the 17th pick in the 2017Packerrats Mock Draft the Washington Redskins select:

Dalvin Cook - RB - Florida St.

BOTTOM LINE Very talented runner with outstanding balance, footwork and burst. Cook lacks the power that you may find with some running backs in this year's draft, but he is a homerun hitter with a resume featuring monster games against his most highly regarded opponents. Cook creates for himself with elusiveness and speed, but his value could be diminished by injuries, character and issues in pass protection. If everything checks out, he could become a rookie of the year candidate right away.

The Lions need help at Safety and in the front seven in general.

The Detroit Lions select Raekwon McMillan, ILB, Ohio State.

His highlight reel isn't particularly spectacular, but in watching the Clemson tape it became obvious that he will be a stout and reliable defender in the middle of an NFL defense for years to come. He takes good angles, diagnoses quickly, sets the edge, plays well in space (they even split him out on WR's where he played shallow zone mostly), is a solid tackler. Another player that grew on me the more I watched of him.

that pick surprises me

I haven't seen McMillan mocked in the 1st anywhere - until 5 minutes after I posted that. Turned on a mock on one of the ESPN's and they had him mocked in the 20's.

I actually think McMillan is a safe pick.

With the 22nd pick in the Packer Rats Mock Draft the Miami Dolphins select:

Taco Charlton - DE - Michigan

While they could also use help at LB and CB, I think that that the DL is a better place to invest this pick as that unit is particularly old.

Bottom Line: "Inconsistent" has been the buzzword that has followed Charlton since coming to Michigan, but he began the process of shaking it during his senior season. Charlton is an ascending prospect with the size, length, athleticism and pass-rushing potential that NFL general managers dream of. What you see today might not be what you get. While his production coming out of college will be modest, he could become a substantially better player as a pro if he's committed to the weight room and willing to absorb coaching. High-impact defensive end with all-pro potential is his ceiling. His floor is solid starter.

With the 23rd pick in the NFL Draft, the NY Giants select Garrett Boles,.............OT from Utah

Elite athletic ability with the sweetest feet at the tackle position in this draft. Movement skills are smooth and unencumbered. There isn't an angle block he can't get to. Smooth climbs to linebackers as a work-up blocker, and has rare ability to accelerate from that block up to a third target. Has lateral quickness in run game to cross-face from backside and seal on the play-side. Can take quick settle steps, sinks and scoops defensive ends on base blocks. Quick feet allow for more patience to scan for stunts. Can meet edge speed with quick sets in pass pro. Plays with a mean streak and loves to finish. Outstanding change of direction to mirror without a hitch in his transition. Keeps weight on inside foot in his slides. Moves feet into position against inside counters. Balanced in his pass sets and keeps blocks centered. Should get bigger and stronger with more weight work after unorthodox path to the draft.

With the 24th pick in the Packerrats Mock Draft the Oakland Raiders select:

Jarrad Davis - LB - Florida

BOTTOM LINE Praised for both his football and personal character, Davis has athletic gifts to go along with the character traits teams are looking for. His ability to cover ground, operate with loose hips in space, and finish his tackles make him a draft favorite for some teams. While it is easy to fall in love with the traits and potential, Will have to take better routes to the ball and learn to keep himself clean against blocks. Should be able to compete for an early starting job as a 4-3 outside backer.

Simple reality...IMO ....and of course I think PR is right.........is......there will be a lot of good CB's in round one.........and there for us in round to.........so my conclusion is..........

Draft the best dam pass rusher left.

McKinley and Watt would have made a nice poll but I think Tak will be gone and frankly it would not surprise me if Watt is too

Was listening to Chad Reuter today, who thinks Watt will be a fantastic pro. He noted what a great fit he'd be in GB. He has the measurable GB looks for, he has an endless motor, and he loves football. He also has room to put on a few pounds, and he's a workout warrior.

Dear Ted.....Draft TJ Watt

of course........this means he won't.

He'll probably draft a CB and we'll get to round two and there will be a whole shitload of them there still ..........but.......he elite pass rushers will be gone

T.J. Watt - OLB - Wisconsin

BOTTOM LINE A long-limbed effort rusher who posted impressive numbers against the run and pass in just one year as a starter. He is a tireless worker who pursues from snap to whistle and his brother, J.J., will be a tremendous resource for technique and pass-rush plan. While he is unlikely to win a race to the edge, he's a plus run defender who can get to the quarterback with plus hand work and relentless effort.

With the 31st pick in the 2017 Packer Rats mock draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Forrest "Gump" Lamp, OG Western Kentucky.

The Falcons have a glaring need at OG and get the best one in the draft.

Bob McGinn had a tough year mock wise.

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2017/5/1/15493170/grading-the-2017-nfl-mock-drafts-judgment-day-for-kiper-mcshay-mayock

They scored him 2nd to last. Despite getting 27 first rounders correct, he matched only two to the correct teams and lost a ton of points for that.

He also came in 82nd (tied) out of 95 for The Huddle: http://www.thehuddlereport.com/thr/mock.scores.shtml

PackerRats got 26 first rounders named, missing CBs, TEs, a QB and an EDGE. David Njoku, Evan Engram, Charles Harris, Adoree' Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, and Deshaun Watson.

1 worse than McGinn.

However, PackerRats did get (Browns-Garrett, 49ers-Thomas, Panthers-McCaffrey, Jags-Fournette, Titans-Davis, Chiefs-Mahomes) 6 names with the correct team. Better than Bob by 4 picks.
