^ Yeah, but they are literally putting people on IR because they have run out of wiggle room. And only 2 of those guys get to come back after a minimum of 8 weeks off.

Yup. I think it was Frank, but maybe it was Al, who remarked at the beginning how bad the Bears run defense was that year. Then he paused and said but these Packers are going to make them actually look good. Then the weather happened, then Edgar Bennett and Reggie Cobb got going, then even Bert got into the action, and pretty soon they had piled up over 200 yards on the ground, errr, in the mud.

Last year against the Bears Packers had no RB's (Monty's 1st game at RB). Packers went to the short passing game with Rodgers completing 39 of 56 passes. Monty caught 10, Cobb 11 and Adams 13. Probably see something similar this week. It would be nice to see Bennett get out of his slump.

With Bears top 2 WR's out for the year, they're throwing to their RB's and TE's a lot. Glennon isn't going downfield much. He's averaging less than 9 yards per completion. Tackling well is a must. Burnett and Josh Jones will be very busy.

Harlan posted Baranczyk's take on Monty elsewhere (that the Packers should work to find a complement to Monty immediately) but I wanted to flag another of his points: Blake Martinez had a measurable (and positive) impact on the game.

http://www.packersnews.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/baranczyk/2017/09/25/analysis-packers-need-more-support-ty-montgomery-run-game/700966001/

Blake Martinez had the best game of his relatively short NFL career Sunday.

The second-year linebacker finished second on the team in tackles (11), and his play against the run as the lone standard linebacker in the Packers’ nitro defense helped make the six-defensive-back personnel group work against a team with talented running backs.

Though the Bengals ran the ball well at times, overall Joe Mixon (3.4-yard average on 18 carries) and Jeremy Hill (3.3 yards on seven carries) didn’t control the game on the ground against the Packers’ undersized defense. Martinez played fast, and was all over the field.

Martinez also made one of the game’s big plays, on the first snap of overtime, when he knifed through the line and dropped Mixon for a two-yard loss. That set the tone for overtime and put the Bengals in an unfavorable down and distance (second and 12). Two plays later the Packers’ defense got a third-down stop and off the field.

Not much has separated Martinez from Jake Ryan, who didn’t play Sunday because of a hamstring injury and concussion. But with more play like Sunday, Martinez rarely will come off the field.

From the Tuesday practice:

The Packers have a long injury list (http://scout.com/nfl/packers/Article/Green-Bay-Packers-OTs-David-Bakhtiari-Bryan-Bulaga-Practice-Coul-108039329), but only one player didn’t practice on Tuesday: cornerback Davon House.

That doesn’t mean offensive tackles David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga and defensive tackle Mike Daniels, who were limited participation, and receiver Randall Cobb, safety Kentrell Brice and outside linebacker Nick Perry, who were full participation, are in the clear. As much as that group will push to play, McCarthy will lean on the training staff.

It only got distributed locally by little studio in his hometown in Michigan. Some DJ in Pittsburgh got a copy three years later, and they just re-released it. Then a new Tommy James & Shondells band formed in Pittsburgh and went to work for a mobster in NY. Good story:

I know it's one game and one bad day at the office, but is there any thought that maybe it's time to say goodbye to Randall, at least in the form of a team-imposed suspension?

Boy, he was waving his arms and gesticulating so much on that TD burn I thought maybe King had screwed up the coverage, but it appeared to my untrained eye like Randall either thought they were playing zone or that he got caught peeking into the backfield.

Anybody smarter than I am tell me what happened on that play?

This wouldn't surprise me. Seems like the kid has talent but is a bit of a mess between the ears. Coverage mistakes can happen, you gotta handle it better than sulking though.
Hopefully Whitt can be a CB whisperer and talk him off the ledge. The team will need him -- it's a long season, and who knows when House will be back. Hawkins got away with a few things in coverage.

Unrelated, but how stupid are the DL rules in football? Why not let guys come back when they're healthy? Player safety focused and all... Maybe let you specify whether they'll be out 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks or season. The way it is is not very good for promoting player safety.

Its to prevent teams from stashing players for development.

Baseball has looser rules, but they have a 25/40 man roster limits controlling it. Lotta room to maneuver. You would have to add a lot of roster spots to get that kind of flexibility in football, more than just the taxi squad.

How much money are we really talking about here? It's not like the expanded roster will be filled with expensive top talent. Probably a few more guys at NFL minimum or thereabouts. If resistance to expanded rosters is about the money then these guys are needlessly cheapos.
