Remember, this Packers team is no more talented than the Browns. Don't let the 3 point point differential/road loss fool you into thinking different.

I have nothing official but I think House came out of the game near the end and was replaced by Hawkins.

King and Randall returned. Burnett seemed to make it through. I did not see any other injuries.

McCray was a late scratch after looking like he might play. Spriggs got the call and was not great but also not quite a tire fire. He needs reps to get timing down. On one run play, he was looking for the snap as they do on the road in shotgun and he glanced to read the position of the defender. He turned his head back just in the to be a fraction late off the ball and got beat inside. His defender was blocked, but into the hole and his guy helped secure the tackle of Williams.

You can’t even hit a QB in the head with your hand by rule until he is a runner. I don’t know if he was considered a runner at he point he was hit but in the end it didn’t matter. Brown is a man among boys vis a vie the packers secondary.

Hundley looked ok. Maybe next year he could be a .500 QB, which would be enough to lose Rodgers for 6 or 8 games and still make the playoffs.

Adams is 300 yards away from 1,000. He’s about to earn himself a big pay day. If he can do this with Hundley, he’s gonna get paid.

I recommend you all spend some time tomorrow reading up on the failed Greg Schiano deal on a contract to coach the Tennessee Volunteers football team.

Its playing out like its the Internet Mob versus very serious media types+Tennessee AD+Greg Schiano. Pat Forde said the inmates are running the asylum.

This is good enough theatre. But the real treat is that Forde and others have been shaken so hard by breaking developments that they have forgotten a rule that even they are capable of understanding about College Football. Money talks and money apparently balked at Schiano's hiring.

I agree with this summary of the game (not from me):

But I wouldn’t say that the Packers lost despite a great BH performance – I would say that while he had his best game, he still made a lot of mistakes and was part of the reason that the Packers won the turnover battle 3-0 but somehow still lost the game. Too many really short drives. A few really bad throws to open receivers. Second-half sacks due to bad old habits. (An egregious, but unflagged helmet-to-helmet hit on the QB by Watt didn’t help – I can’t believe BH wasn’t concussed on that play.) And a defense missing Clark and Matthews and, for a while, Randall, that eventually succumbed to Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell, especially Bell. Bell ate them alive in the 2nd half, one dump-off after another. Despite having three drives ended by turnovers, Pittsburgh still won the time-of-possession "battle" by 7 minutes.

The Steelers once again played down to the level of their competition, made a game out what should have been a blowout, and got away with it.

Saw the officials both said they were "shielded from view" of the helmet to helmet hit. One of the local radio guys here said, you didn't need to see it, it was heard so badly, Pepper Burress was looking away from the field at the moment of impact and new what just happened. That's terrible officiating. A pinky brushes the helmet of Tom Brady and you get a flag, but obvious helmet to helmet, which a year ago gets Watt ejected, no call.

I've seen and heard people say "Hundley was ok"....kidding me? 134.8 passer rating, 3TD, 0 INT. That's just OK? People want him to fail so badly it's stupid. There were at least 6 other teams that wished they had Brett Hundley's 134.8 passer rating from their QB yesterday. Hundley played fantastic.

Stubby, again, with some questionable, stupid play calls that will never lead to anyone having success, was the problem. Our own lack of pass rush, and lack of talent in the DBackfield, was a problem. I know our DB's played decent, but again hearing press conferences, 2 of the steelers touchdowns were incorrect coverages, blown first by Dix, and second by Burnett. Just never ends.

mraynrand
11-27-2017, 09:52 AM
^^ reasonable. Dix is having an awful year. Is it him, coaching, injury or all of above?

Randall's progression is really unexpected. Think about how how down and out he was at one point. Gotta at least give coaches some credit for sticking with him and getting him back into shape.

texaspackerbacker
11-27-2017, 10:25 AM
I've been saying all along that Hundley is at very least decent. He did what he did with better than usual O Line play, but still way below average for the league - he got the same thing Aaron Rodgers has had to live with for years. It would be so nice if our QB could have the time that Roethlisberger or Brady or Brees or a lot of others get routinely.

I'm about ready to label Clinton-Dix as crap - he's been pretty consistent that way this season. Randall seems much improved, but I see him as a risk-taker (for better or worse) who will make big plays but also get beat sometimes. King seems just the opposite - steady but not much in the line of big plays, for this year anyway.

I think our lack of pass rush was more a matter of them having a decent O Line than badness on our part. You could see the burst of our guys, but they got blocked just enough to come close and not get the QB.

Jamal Williams woulda been the player of the game (other than Hundley) if we had won. That kid looks damn good going forward - he and Aaron Jones, and I still think Mays is more like he showed in the preseason and not like last week.

Teamcheez1
11-27-2017, 11:06 AM
I guess Mays must officially be in the dog house. He didn't even get one carry after the two fumbles last week.

Also, our the TE's no longer part of the game plan, or only there to block? Rodgers did have one nice catch, but that makes three total catches for Kendricks/Rodgers the last two games. It would seem they could at least be a safety valve sitting down in a route 5 yards down the field.

And that was against the #2 scoring D in the league this year.

Honestly, I didn't feel like the Packers were a sieve like they were with the Falcons last year in the playoffs. They weren't giving up routine passes like in the past, but Antonio Brown made some phenomenal catches against tight coverage.

As much as people want to complain, this is not the defense of 2011. It has progressively gotten better.

I'm hoping the strategy of selecting DBs over LBs pays off though. It seems TT collects the DBs and the Steelers collect the LBs.

There was one play that I remember that Hundley took a sack and the TE was running a shallow crossing route. He was a good 3 yards ahead of the LB but Hundley would have had to throw the ball across his body. Also wondering if his feet weren't set at that point. But Hundley did have a dump off if he had been able to get rid of the ball.

The problem with Williams is that if you block 3 yards, he gets 3.5. If you block 5, he gets 5.5. If you block 15, he gets 7. The better you block the worse the pickup rate.

The lack of takeoff speed is evident every time he had downfield space and got caught by his shoelaces. Had to happen at least 3 times with yardage ahead.

But this isn't an issue because he can be your banger AND catch passes, which makes for some fun heavy packages. And when you want to break one, you have Jones or Mays. Plus Ripper can run, block and catch. Its seriously an overstuffed position now, if people could remain healthy and non fumbling.

ND72 asked why so many stick routes for the Packers. I think there are a couple of reasons, its one of their run/pass options being the obvious one. But I also think its the design of the offense to get vertical levels working against the defense, which for McCarthy opens up the deeper passing game.

This video actually covers a hook route at 10 yards by the TE. Stick route is normally shorter. But its effect is similar. It stars Mooch at Stanford.

Chris Brown covers the history of this play and how Spurrier, the West Coast Offense and Brett Favre combined to help popularize the 3rd option on this play, the post. http://smartfootball.com/offense/the-science-of-the-post-going-deep-with-mills#sthash.9cttcyzy.dpbs

Agreed, there were a good 3-4 plays where Williams was a half step from picking up an additional 10+ yards. If he could pick up that extra half step (either through training or better recognition) he'd be a heck of a lot more dangerous. At the very least though he's a slasher who should be a good short down back.

"We'll see," McCarthy says of Rodgers practicing on Saturday. That'd be his first opportunity.

Packer Report‏ @PackerReport
McCarthy says Rodgers is "knocking it out of the park" but won't go into any decision (or how it'll be made) for this week.

Packer Report @PackerReport
Spriggs will be the right tackle going forward, McCarthy says. Allows McCray to focus on utility role.

Packer Report @PackerReport
Jamaal Williams playing well in all phases - running, receiving and blocking - McCarthy says.

Packer Report @PackerReport
"Definitely," McCarthy says of the 57-yard FG being the right decision. Doesn't understand criticism (cue the fans in three, two, one ...)

Packer Report @PackerReport
And he'd make same decision again. Needed points with Steelers' offensive firepower.

Packer Report @PackerReport
Hundley's improvement: Decision-making stood out, MM says. Avoided critical errors that could have changed the game. Managed game, noise, communication issues.

Packer Report @PackerReport
Crosby's pregame workout showed that the 57-yarder was in his range. "You've got to have points and he's got to hit it," Zook says.

McCarthy on Aaron Jones: He'll be in the rehab group with a projection of him possibly being able to practice on Wednesday.

Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
McCarthy: I think we were minus-10 in tackling. Worst performance of the year.

Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
McCarthy on Hundley getting hit in helmet: He got checked out in the training room and he's fine.

Tom Silverstein‏ @TomSilverstein
It's possible McCarthy will have rookie running backs Aaron Jones (MCL) and Jamaal Williams together very soon, possibly this week if everything goes right in Jones' continuing rehab. Would be a big boost to the offense.

Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
McCarthy: If you don't get to 10 wins there's nothing else to talk about. We have to get to six. That's our mindset.

Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
McCarthy said on 57-yard field goal try: "You have to go for points there if you trust your kicker." Asked about the potential of a miss and what it might do to momentum, he said, "You can't think like that." Said there were a ton of other factors involved.

I WOULD BUY THIS EXPLANATION FOR ANY OF THE PREVIOUS 4 OR 5 GAMES. BUT THEY WERE MOVING THE BALL ON THE STEELERS. MAKES IT VERY CLOSE. DESPITE THE OFFENSE LOOKING THE BEST IT HAS IN 5 WEEKS, THEY ONLY GOT 307 YARDS IN THE GAME. ON BALANCE, THIS WAS MCCARTHY THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND IN A MUST WIN.

Tom SilversteiN @TomSilverstein
Dom Capers: Guys played hard. Takeaways were very big. Came at good times. Opening drive was frustrating. We have to tackle better. You have to use your leverage and give them a lot of space.

Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein
Capers on Brown catches on last drive: He made a tremendous play (on first one). Second play, we decided to pressure. We hadn't pressured a lot. We had a guy come free but Ben got rid of the ball. It's a hard route to defend.

Tom SilversteiN @TomSilverstein
Capers on Kevin King: That shoulder is such an issue, coming in and out of the game.

Most likely the Crystal Lake Tigers.

That’s great that fat mike thinks a-rod is doing great getting ready to come back

The problem is that he BROKE HIS FUCKING COLLARBONE, and until it heals fully on its own, he shouldn’t be risking anything to fuck it up. That includes throwing the fucking ball 50 yards, just to show off before a game

The Packers' medical staff is known to be one of the most conservative bunch around so I seriously doubt AR would be throwing unless he got the okay from the team doctors.

The worrisome thing apparently isn't exerting the broken collarbone with throwing. It's the prospect of getting hit and breaking it again. with the Packers O Line, that is a bigger danger than with most other teams.

When healthy I don't think this OL is as bad as you are suggesting.

No it's worse.

You think a line with Bak, Taylor, Linsley, Evans and Bulaga is one of the bottom feeder lines in the league?
