This upcoming weekend is the best football weekend of the year. I love the divisional round.

Who does everyone think is the best team? The NFC seems sort of stacked this year. For Minnesota to do what they're doing without a QB is amazing. The NFC South is also great. I think I like the Saints or Falcons in the NFC.

Patriots in the AFC of course :-)

The Patriots would have a much harder time if they had to play Jacksonville and Pittsburgh instead of only one of the two.

Of those two, Pittsburgh probably stands a better chance. Bradybot would take a beating by Jax's front 7 but Bortles.

In the unholy event the Vikings make it to the SB will there be any effort made to take away home field advantage? Will they be able to use their lockerroom/facilities? Will they be able to blow that stupid horn?

Likes would not be able to use their game day operations people, so music, video boards and presumably horn would be in the hands of the League.

NFC is the away team so hard to say on the locker rooms. Both lockers at pretty fucking swank though.

NFC is the away team so hard to say on the locker rooms. Both lockers at pretty fucking swank though.

They've already said the Vikings would be allowed to practice at their facility. The original plan was for the AFC team to use it and the NFC team practice at the UofM stadium, but the NFL said that will change if the NFC team is the Vikings.

That seems the opposite of taking away any advantage the Vikings would have. They know the stadium and field, why not let the other team get used to it?

Getting a kick out of the discussion if the Steelers or Jags have a better shot against the Patriots. I wonder how the Titans feel about that?

Bulletin board material? Ah, doesn't matter. I don't think the Titans are going anywhere in this game. Vegas is spotting them what, 12 points?

for all those that said the packers team wasn't bad because any team that lost their star QB would be as bad as we were, the eagles are going to the NFC chanpionship game after losing their QB who was probably going to win the MVP before his injury

with better players and coaching you CAN withstand an injury to your QB

That's exactly the point. It would be nice to have a TEAM that isn't entirely dependent on 1 player having to perform at an all-world level just to be competitive. One thing the playoffs tell me year after year is that you still need a good to great D to win the Superb Owl. Teams with video game offenses and pathetic D's just don't win it.

And the Eagles defense. That's the dumb part of this "Backup X" has been successful discussion. The Vikings are also playing a journeyman backup but they have a top 3 defense. Blake Bortles has a lot of QB Winz this year too but I'm not ready to say he's a successful QB.

Foles has started a few seasons' worth of games and he did enough to not lose. That's usually what it takes on a team that does not have to worry about the defense's inability to get off of the fiel.d

The recent Packers have relied on their offense to win games. That's not an ideal scenario for any journeyman to step into.

Double the sack percentage REALLY hurts Hundley.

I think tex really overplays this point in blaming the Packers O line as one of the worst, but we do need to remember that Rodgers makes them look better than they are.

Carolina_Packer

The Eagles already had a good D when Wentz got hurt. If your D plays well enough, the backup QB just needs to be the "game manager" and not turn the ball over. They didn't need Foles to be as good as Wentz.

When A-Rod got hurt, MM knew that his D was mediocre for multiple reasons, so he still needed his QB to carry more of the load. When that didn't work out so well, and there were a lot of three and outs on the offense and inconsistent play by the D, that was a recipe for having the overall talent-level of the team exposed.

Fix the D this offseason. Priority #1.

It looked like the offense for Foles last night was designed to get the ball out of his hands, mostly RPOs and runs. They mixed in a handful of dropbacks but those were a lot more of an adventure.

Yep. I am going to be forever curious whether the Rodgers offense is because of Rodgers wish to get big plays has gone well beyond touchdown then check down or if McCarthy thinks being as hard to bring down (or quick to release) as Farve or in tune with the Matrix of pass protection (Rodgers) is a normal trait for a QB.

If Peyton Manning had been his QB, I think there would have been a homicide. First Manning would have died on the field, then Archie would have run M3 over with a truck.

Per the 'How many Games did Sam Bradford miss?'- I hate to say this but Keenum is the better qb for what they are doing. And let's be honest- a little or in their case a lot of luck has been a part of their success. Little things that go their way like injuries to key players on other teams. Hundley exposed something and that would be McCarthy.

Hundley's sack percentage was much more a function of Hundley's inability to move to the 2nd 3rd an 4th reads and get the ball out of his hands than it was OL difficulties. Maybe I'm misremembering, but it seemed that his sacks went down the last 4 games after MM changed the offense to quick pass, no think. We were not more successful, but Hundley wasn't bailing to his right as much...until the end of the game and we were playing from behind.

Well, first, New England and Jacksonville do it the right way and the Steelers clearly do not. Mike Tomlin does not get IT! and doesn't seem to have a clue.

Similarly, Todd Haley has no idea what it takes to succeed on 4th down and the ST coach clearly was confused about that onside kick call.

To summarize, fire the GM!

It was interference. Hand on shoulder and bumped him from behind. You can't launch your self over the other guy even if you are making a play for the ball.

Playing footsie with the rule (well, it really wasn't that bad) is why the rules are in such sad shape.

It was interference. Hand on shoulder and bumped him from behind. You can't launch your self over the other guy even if you are making a play for the ball.

Playing footsie with the rule (well, it really wasn't that bad) is why the rules are in such sad shape.

i saw his hand bhind the shoulder, the at the shoulder, then in front of the shoulder all in about a half second. i don't see how he had tie to do anything but graze by it

58 yard fumble return for TD

thats a terrible rule, guy gets a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty for pointing at a guy trying to tackle him

you can legally hit someone as hard as you can, but no pointing

Why not? Refs will bail out the WR more times than not with a PI call. They've already established they're going to be calling it tight. I think that is a winning strategy in this game, especially for NO as they're not going to move the ball in traditional manner.

In fact, I'm telling Ginn, my faster receiver, to run a take off route as fast/far as he can and I'm going to underthrow the ball on purpose. So then you stop in order to come back for it, the trailing DB will run in to you and we get a free 40-50 yards. Easy

Honestly, it should be part of the game plan.

hey, I have a friend who is a Pittsburgh fan and I need some advice on what to tell him tomorrow. Can the constitutive complainers here (Red, Woodcock, Runt, Yeti, etc. ) tell me which essential football rules Pittsburgh violated that Jacksonville followed and who all should be fired? And I don't want to hear anything about refs and injuries because they don't count for the Packers. Heads need to roll!

Pittsburgh shouldn't do anything different. You fans should be proud of your team. They did their best. You can't go the the Superb Owl every year. Steelers fans should be happy the team is in the playoffs every year. Losses happen. Injuries happen. Be realistic. The Steelers have the best owner in the league, the best organization, the best coach, the best QB and the best players. I'll publish stats soon that prove what I'm saying is indisputable fact.

The most satisfying four words in the English language are: "Wait till next year!"

Dilly! Dilly!

Right. So my original point stands. That is, NO should be flinging it up deep too since refs already established their incompetence and preference for touch PI calls.

Saints are underdog behind in this game against a great defense so it would benefit them greatly to employ this strategy.

Look, nothing personal. Fandom is much about myth-building and legend-making as it is about the things that occur on the field. I don't really care who said what about the play and am not looking to have a debate about it. The bottom line is that Barr took out Rodgers for the season.

Winners, losers, heroes and villiains are all part of the fun. Barr is a villain until further notice due to nothing other my personal rooting allegiance and my conscious choice to inject narrative on top of the on-field product. Villains do evil things with malicious intent. Hence Barr is a dirty player, full of malicious intent.
