I will also take the Steelers pick if no one else wants it so I can take the last favorite player left from Rand's list, as per actual draft history.

Yeah this year the Steelers will grab the guy I want the Packers to get with their second round pick. Or they'll move up ahead of #14 somehow...

I'll take Cleveland's #4, but only if I can trade down six times and accumulate 8 picks in rounds 3-6.

I'll take the original cheaters, the Broncos. For a second team give me Cincinnati if no one else takes them by the deadline.

I kinda want the Giants...curious what they'll be doing, one of the bigger questions in the draft, IMO.

The BROWNS Pick @ NO. 1 and NO. 4:

Maybe they go NO. 1 Ranked Prospect or QB Sam Darnold and he could very well be 'the face of the Franchise' and leave NO. 2 Overall Prospect RB 'Generational Talent' Saquon Barkley.

but

The thing to consider is who they like as their favourite QB Prospect and there are Options. Check out this analysis by someone I respect or Chris Carter who's among the very best with a HOFer Career. That NO. 1 Pick is very interesting this Year.:

They are the Cleveland Browns with a whole different look and their Brass. Hopefully a better PLAN

OK, we are going to start. When you make the pick, PM the next three people on the list to help move this along. Sometimes we wait a couple days to get a pick in and while its understandable, a little forewarning or reminder should help shorten the timeframe.

So, who is running things in Cleveland? I posit its actually the GM. And I think that has largely been true of each of the last eight GMs who worked here. Problem is, each of those GMs ran into some bumps, dumb decisions and intra-team fighting (usually the coach) and the owner has a ridiculously quick trigger finger. Imagine if Rodger Goodell, who manages the NFL by creating press releases and then reading Tweets about reporters reacting to the press releases, owned a team. He would hire and fire GMs while watching the concession sales quarter by quarter. If you aren't buying enough premium beer, Sashi Brown is going to lose his golden parachute.

But John Dorsey is an old horse, he isn't going to change for Haslam, and he knows if he gets canned in two years, his boiler plate football takes straight out of the 1980s NFL will keep him a respectable future employee. Wolf the Younger and Alonzo "Dilly Dilly" Highsmith will keep him focused on athletes with upside, but JD is going to want his team to look like other successful teams, from about 1994-2001.

That means a QB first and a RB, if it is to happen, second. Nothing will end a GM tenure than a lack of a credible QB. At least one drafted high enough that you can fool writers into thinking the only thing the team needs to unlock to be successful is to get the highly drafted young QB to play well. And that is never the GMs fault.

But which one? Dorsey isn't going to want to gamble on his lame duck HC to construct an offense for Lamar Jackson to succeed in (which might be his first dumb move because Jackson has serious physical talent and someone imaginative, like Doug Pederson, would probably beat Dorsey's team into submission with Jackson at QB making the same four throws all game long).

Someone wrote that Baker Mayfield's NFL comparison is Case Keenum. No one drafts Keenum in the first round.

Some teams would see Josh Allen as a diamond in the rough with a body and athleticism that will survive almost any offense. So if some other team were picking here, Allen makes sense despite his less that outstanding 2017 year. Physically he was the same guy, but the offense was gutted by graduation and he could not mask all the problems. He's going to get dinged by his inability to improve on pro characteristics like pocket awareness, play timing and pocket awareness.

Metrics guys point out that exactly 2 QBs with Allen's numbers for accuracy have panned out (Carson Wentz is one and I cannot remember the other-check back).

That leaves us with Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen. Rosen has been called NextGen Eli Manning. They weren't clear whether that was meant as a compliment. Darnold presents fewer worries that he might be thinking about things other than football which is normally a big concern for coaches. But the former Packer brain-trust has survived both Favre and Rodgers. They get that football smarts and extracurriculars can go hand in hand as long as you are fanatical about football in some way. Darold's mechanics are everywhere, another thing the Packers brain trust has worked through before.

Many are speculating that Darnold is the feint and Rosen is the pick. I disagree, I think the brain trust wants the upside that fixing his mechanics would bring.

With the 1st pick in the 2018 NFL Common Draft, the Cleveland Browns select: Sam Darnold, QB, USC

The New York Giants are on the clock at #2, and their decision comes down to this: how long have they got Eli for? The cupboard is bare behind him, and they know it.

The Giants decide to roll with the future HOFer for another year, and hope to land a diamond in the rough in later rounds. They also decide to follow a formula that got them their last 2 SB, looking to DL as opposed to any sort of offense.

The Giants select defensive end Bradley Chubb, NC State

I liked watching the Ken O'Brien and Johnny "Lam" Jones offense there for awhile (though it was more of a Wesley Walker offense in reality). Everyone talked about the Sack Exchange, but those guys could light it up. They were one of the few teams that could keep up with the Dolphins and Marino for a year or three on the scoreboard.

They really should have won something after that 2000 draft, but they had Mike Sherman Edwards as coach. That ain't cutting it.

Metrics guys point out that exactly 2 QBs with Allen's numbers for accuracy have panned out (Carson Wentz is one and I cannot remember the other-check back).

{Edit: I bollixed up my point of comparison. Wentz and Ryan had accuracy issues, but not Allen bad. See below where Wentz and Ryan really overcame the odds (QBase)}

The track record for guys with sub .600 completion percentage in their final college season is terrible going back more than a decade:

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/qbase-2018

Allen has an obscenely powerful arm, but it's a howitzer without a targeting system. He completed just 56.3 percent of his passes last year. Here is the list of quarterbacks chosen in the top 100 picks since 2005 despite having a completion rate below 58 percent in their final college season: Andrew Walter (2005), Jake Locker (2011), Christian Hackenberg (2016), Connor Cook (2016), and C. J. Beathard (2017). That's it.

QBase is the Football Outsiders projection for college QBs into the Pros. It take in more factors than just completion percentage.

Aaron Schatz @FO_ASchatz
In the bottom 50 QB prospects since 1997 according to QBASE, there's one elite starter: Matt Ryan. Carson Wentz might be the second. There's a reason we say that even the worst-projected QB has a 4-5% chance of being elite, esp if scouts think he's worth a top pick. Variance!

Aaron Schatz @FO_ASchatz
So, yes, Josh Allen fans, there is hope. Not much but not zero. I would much prefer to risk my first-round pick on Darnold, Rosen, or Mayfield.

The Browns breath a sigh of relief. For years they've done the QB/Great talent double team with a combination of first round picks and told the fans "THE FUTURE IS NOW" And it was true - the future was now - and it was an exciting and wonderful dystopian future like the "Maze Runner" or "The Hunger Games" but it wasn't anything John Facenda would ever want to voice over, unless it was for football follies. Recall these Beauties:

Weeden/Richardson
Quinn/Thomas
Manziel/Gilbert

Joe Thomas was of course the great star for Cleveland over the past decade, but Browns #1 picks have otherwise been awful or if competent, they manage to misuse them before getting rid of them. Or they trade down to 'accumulate picks' (aka accumulate dead bodies).

So this year (unbeknownst to PBmax, the Browns were going to draft Josh Allen #1 as the QB with the "highest ceiling" in the draft). The temptation was to trade down at #4. Why? Because the Browns, having spent tons of money to fill every spot on the O-line, just lost Thomas to frustration, and need a LT, but there is no Jonathan Ogden worth #4 - so trade down and get a LT and another 'value pick' like Greg Little is the smart call...or is it? No one really needs Julio Jones, right?

But no, another former LB is in charge now, and we know all about former LBs turned GMs - Can't miss, right? Like Ted Thompson, Matt Millen, or Peter Parker. Well anyway, John Dorsey is just going to select the greatest talent left and pick Saquon Barkley, and have an explosive offensive talent to take the pressure off his veteran inaccurate passer and his rookie inexperienced passer. The future is now!

QBase is the Football Outsiders projection for college QBs into the Pros. It take in more factors than just completion percentage.

Since 1997, there have been 27 different quarterbacks chosen in the top 100 with QBASE ratings below zero. The best of these quarterbacks was either Josh McCown or Brian Griese. It's a terrible group of quarterback busts. Negative-QBASE passers chosen in the first round include Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman, J.P. Losman, and Patrick Ramsey.

Its entirely possible Allen is getting hyped by reporter-scouts who are just passing along misinformation and that once reporters actually get wind of team rankings, Allen will fall down the board. Its also possible he just drops on draft day naturally.

But if he gets selected in the first round, will be a nice example in the metrics versus eyeball battle. And the Jets might just be the team goofy enough to do it early.

I also think that Rand could be right about Cleveland. I think Darnold or Rosen is who I take. But Packer Brain Trust: Cleveland Division might just reverse a mistake the former numbers guy GM made (skipping on chance for Wentz whose metrics were not top flight) and take a guy who passes the eyeball test wth flying colors.

I would love to ask Ron Wolf about how certain he was about Favre and if he would have taken him with the first Jets pick. The Jets used that years #1 to take Rob Moore in the previous Summer's supplemental draft.

He said that he and Steinberg both liked Favre as the best player in the draft. I wonder if that is literally true.

dYooper and the Broncos are on the clock!

This is a tough one. I can see Elway going a few ways:
1.) Replenish the strength of the team -- its defense. They recently let a few of their talented secondary walk and it would make sense to draft someone for the backend.
2.) Add another name to the quarterback room. As a former QB, Elway realizes that you still need a solid QB to win for extended periods in the NFL. He had some success in renting Manning for a few years but the non-Manning years have been lean. I know they signed Keenum but I would not be surprised to see them draft a QB here to compete if Elway likes one of them.
3.) Solidify the OL. IMO the Broncos have have had glaring holes in their OL these last couple of years. They've seen more penetration than <insert favorite ribaldlry> and it hasn't mattered who they have had in at QB, because that guy has been running for his life for the last 2 years.

Just because I'm bored of watching Denver QBs run for their lives, with the 5th pick of the draft the Denver Broncos take Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame.

The Bucs have a mess in their secondary. They really couldn't go wrong with either James or Fitzpatrick in helping that sad unit. My sources inside the organization tell me that they really love James and feel his ceiling is huge. He's a phenom that will lead their defense for the next decade.

The pick is Derwin James, S, FSU.

If you trust the NFL Sites ie NFL.Com; CBS.Com; ESPN; Drafttek (etc.) and all the Draft Analysts and deemed NFL Experts and their Mock Drafts ...Add the Draft Guru's ie ...NFL Network's Mike Mayock and McShay and Kiper

it's all out there. It takes a load of time to really analyze and be on top of it. That's the duty of the Green Bay Packer Draft Team. They better get it close to right for the next three Seasons,

Add the Tube and The NFL Network analysis and all the other Media Video and the Team Fan Sites.

There's loads of information on the better Draft Prospects at every position and their overall Graded Ratings.

At the end of the day it comes down to real need and Risk and really good luck and a players attitude and dedication to the Team that gives him a realshot.

I agree as to analyzing exactly who will be the BEST Prospect available at TR. 1 Pick NO. 14 will be determined by all the first 13 Picks on Draft Day Number One. So far the Packerrats Mock Draft look pretty solid thru the first 6 Picks.

Denver passing on a QB as well as the NYG would be bad for GB's chances of seeing one of the golden boys fall

If it happens, someone will trade up for one of them.

thats why i think these things are dumb

we're all packer fans and have been looking at players that fit the packers needs for awhile

so everybody picks the packers targets for very little thought put in to the other teams needs. and how would we know what others teams needs are? i doubt any of us spend much time on other teams boards

Yoop lives in Denver and probably knows as much about their needs as you do about the Packers.

I can see Denver not liking their choices there. With Keenum signed, do you want an immediate QB battle?

Of course. But I suggest just draft pick for draft pick trades. Judging players will be too hard. Gotta get a legit score on one of the draft pick trade value charts.

I'm not sure how much value that gives anyway. The Cleveland boards and the radio stations are a steady stream of mostly complaining. And the radio hosts have as many different opinions as the fans on the boards. The only real value to being 'in town' is to maybe listen to the beat writers (usually one or two guys or gals) who actually have their ear to the ground. IN Cleveland it's Terry Pluto, Toni Grossi, and Mary Kay Cabot. Still, more than half the time, they're wrong. Even so, most of their stuff is on twitter/on the line, so it's not hard to get a feel for the team direction. See for example this Q&A with Mary Kay (hey that rhymes - I could be in advertising)

Hey, Mary Kay: Is all the talk about the Browns really liking Josh Allen, including from a 'friend of John Dorsey's'' (according to Peter King of SI.com) true? -- Ben Jones, Macon, Georgia

Hey, Ben: I know the Browns really like a lot about Allen, including his big arm, his mobility, his size and his processing speed. I just don't know if they feel comfortable enough about his ability to improve his accuracy by shortening his stride. It's a projection. He's only two months into the new footwork that he's been honing under the guidance of QB guru Jordan Palmer, and his upside is tremendous if he can commit it to muscle memory. In fact, no matter how much I try to talk myself out of Allen because of the 56.2 completion percentage at Wyoming, I can't help but like him and would probably take him No. 1 if the draft were tomorrow. But I just don't know if the Browns will pull the trigger on him at No. 1 with the accuracy concerns. It seems to me they'll opt for Darnold, who has natural accuracy and anticipation.

Hey, Mary Kay: You talk about how Josh Rosen probably won't be drafted by the Browns because the offense won't be "seamless" in transitioning from Tyrod Taylor to him. Please don't tell me that John Dorsey and his "football guys" share this theory. Why would drafting a quarterback that we want to play for the next 15 plus years have any bearing on whether or not he can transition into an offense that A. might be different in a year and B.match the skills set of a bridge quarterback? -- Devin Hernan, Concord, Ohio

Hey, Devin: I think the Browns made a concerted effort to acquire a veteran quarterback that had the dual-threat skill set they were seeking, and one that would match up with what they were looking for in their quarterback of the future. Hue Jackson has mentioned on several occasions that they'd like the rookie QB to share traits with Taylor so they're not re-inventing the wheel when the first-rounder is ready to play. The entire offense must adjust to a mobile quarterback, and the Browns don't want to go from a classic, dropback passer to a dual-threat QB, or vice versa. Therefore, I think QBs such as Darnold, Allen, Mayfield and Jackson fit the bill, while the less mobile Rosen is more of a reach.

Quarterback guru Jordan Palmer is going to take some getting used to.

pbmax
04-10-2018, 09:28 AM
Why on earth would you want the rookie QB to share traits with Tyrod because of the offense? Are they even going to the playoffs this year? That just seems to be Hue Jackson lobbying to keep his job.

If you want a mobile guy for your new fangled offense OK. But to worry about going from one QB to another in a year? Dumb.

Quarterback guru Jordan Palmer is going to take some getting used to.

It's his body of work with the Arizona Rattlers that lends him his greatest credibility.

(FYI, he couldn't make the depth chart with QBs Lang Campbell and Jeff Smoker in front of him and, following his disastrous 2008 season, the AFL suspended operations for a year)

Most of these guys are going to be gone, save for a surprise drop.

Washington won't do it here, but even if 5 QBs went, that is only one player moving down toward the Packers. And it just as easily could be the ND Guard than one of the D players.

I do think that the PackerRats draft might be excluding other likelihoods because all we talk about are who we want to see drop. And that happens to be the best defenders plus maybe one WR.

Other mocks less than a week old have Sutton, Guice, Vita Vea (DT), McGlinchey (OT-ND), and Payne (DT) going in Top 13.

But outside of QB, its a very defensive top of the board.

I still think there's a reasonable chance the Packers take a QB, but only remotely possible if some teams get cold feet. If you're a bad team with a marginal QB, you almost have to take a QB in the top 10-20, meaning a QB good enough to develop at Rodger's successor won't be available at 14 - and Packer brass figure they have Rodgers for closer to 6 more years than 2.

The Redskins had the worst run defense in the NFL last season.

This is a fairly easy pick. After considering Da'Ron Payne of Alabama, the Redskins take Vita Vea, DT, Washington.

The Green Bay Packers are on the clock.

Vita Vea would have been ideal for the Seahawks at 18. They couldn't trade up - no #2 or #3 this year.

But hey, according to this there is no way they select him even if he's there:

Title: Who will the Seahawks overdraft this time?
https://www.fieldgulls.com/2018/4/8/17210864/nfl-draft-seahawks-first-round-arden-key-vita-vea

Or Alternative Title:
Predictably Passing on Powerful Popular Perennial Pro-Bowler to Pick a Pathetic Palooka

That's a lot of complaining ahead of time for one article.

You nailed it ! ; DT Vita Vea was the clear choice. Washington ranked dead last in rushing 'D' in 2017 (134.1 Yards/Game)

That leaves lots of excellent talent for the Packers No. 14 Overall Pick.

The Packers have need @ Pass Rush; DB; WR ; OL (RHS) and TE.

There's lot's left that are excellent Prospects and (IMO) should start for the Packers.

I am amazed that this group is so highly thought of that all will be gone by Pick 16 or so.

If Packers trade back, I could see a QB. Rooting for Rosen or Allen then. I'd take Mayfield, but Mr. Intensity won't last long.

How fast is Lamar Jackson? Who the fuck knows? Jackson refuses to run the 40 out of fear of being typecast as a receiver. At Louisville, Jackson had a penchant for leaving foes in the dust, so apparently, he can definitely fly. A mama's boy. Jackson's mother once called the Louisville coaches to remind them that they promised to play Jackson at QB and QB only, not some inferior position like punt returner. Is Jackson a carbon copy of RG3 or will he become the most dynamic QB in the NFL since Kap? The Cardinals are about to find out firsthand. Cardinals of Arizona draft Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville.

The Ravens and Woody are on the clock.

A nice Pick Anti-Polar Bear: Two obvious earlier Draft destinations for QB Prospect Lamar Jackson were Arizona and as the possible replacement for Joe Flacco in Baltimore.

************************************************** ******************************

The Baltimore Ravens have need at TE and WR and at ILB and the OL.

Baltimore fans preferred a selection at WR of D.J. Moore over Calvin Ridley. I'm not so sure given Calvin Ridley's credentials that's their best option.

As I see it the University of Alabama has produced another top notch first round WR talent with an NFL.com Grade of 6.40 in Calvin Ridley.

Out of high school, Calvin Ridley was the best WR prospect in the country. He immediately made an impact for Alabama. Calvin Ridley is known for running crisp routes and utilizing top tier speed to get open. He has outstanding hands and an ability to adjust to the ball. I believe like most Analysts that he's the best receiver in this class. If he can improve on beating press coverage at the line of scrimmage, he can consistently win in the NFL.

The Baltimore Ravens pick Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama.

Maybe Moss is a bit too much, but let's just say for argument he's worthy of a top 15 pick. Wouldn't it be nice to have a real stud of a receiver to go along with Rodgers at his peak? Packers with Favre and Rodgers have had some decent receivers (Freeman, Brooks, Jennings, Nelson) but they really have not had a truly First team all-pro quality stud receiver since Sterling Sharpe. And having a guy like that can make everyone else more effective. I find myself thinking of Vernon Davis versus AJ Hawk...

But Packers need defensive backs so maybe we trade down and draft a couple of Randalls...

The chargers OL is lacking, its a good thing Rivers is the best hot read QB in the game...he needs to be. The chargers are thrilled to find the best OT prospect in the draft still available here and grab Connor Williams. He has the ability (feet) to play LT, but the nasty streak and run blocking ability to play RT. After signing Okung to man the LT, drafting Williams to man the RT keeps the immobile Rivers clean to throw to Keenan Allen and second round pick....

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS – PICK #18

The Seahawks will listen for trade downs as they would really like to add a Day 2 pick. At #18 though, there are a number of good options:

DT Da'Ron Payne has size and agility and can stop the run. He would add heft to a fairly light DL.
RB Derrius Guice is compact and fast. Could be the breakout RB they have been missing since Marshawn Lynch.
CB Josh Jackson is a ballhawk CB with good size and decent speed.
WR Courtland Sutton would add a bigger receiving threat, while WR DJ Moore has the speed to get deep.

Seattle is always looking for defense and doesn’t hesitate to take a fast riser as they did with Bruce Irvin. LB Leighton Vander Esch has the size, speed and agility they are looking for; he has good instincts and plays well in coverage. Starting LBs Wagner and Wright both played more than 90% of the snaps last year and there is very little depth, so Vander Esch can play right away while working to add strength for run defense.

With the 18th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select:

Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Boise State

This wasn't an easy Pick ! I might have easily gone in a different direction.

Here's how the Baltimore Raven Fan's saw it in a POLL Selection Process:

With the 16th pick in the 2018 Beatdown mock draft, the Baltimore Ravens select and that POLL"s Results follows:

NO. 2 ... 23% Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame (278 votes)

NO. 3 ... 22% Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama (271 votes)

**********************************************

NO. 4 ... 14% Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama (167 votes) ...and I love this Football PLAYER. I believe I know where he is the perfect fit and it will be interesting to see if he lands there in our MOCK. If he isn't selected in our Mock in Round 1 that's just wrong. I saw him working at ILB with an aging **** OLB Terrell Suggs and now add the presence of former Crimson Tide Player *** C.J. Mosley. Yikes !

************************************************

2% Mike Hughes, CB, UCF (22 votes)

7% Hayden Hurst, TE, South Carolina (84 votes)

************************************************

THE WINNER !

The selection in their POLL was:

NO 1 ... 32% D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland (393 votes) NOTE: In later weeks some Teams and their Fan bases are preferring D. J. Moore over Calvin Ridley.

If Anti -- Polar Bear doesn't pick Lamar Jackson , QB, Louisville for the Arizona Cardinals I would have seriously thought of making him a Baltimore Raven.

You have to Mock Draft for fit. I believe going BPA is a cop out. It was with a load of thought I went Calvin Ridley and The Ravens.

That's why as NFL and Packer fans we should get involved in at least the Mock Draft Process. Imagine now making up your Draft Board and seating out those Football players you really want to take a risk on.

Every Pick is an important decision. You cannot just grap anyone as every pick has to be seriously considered and you need to be aware of the whole process as to what other teams are doing as to how that impacts your Board..

You need a seriously intelligent and all in dedicated 'Scout and Draft TEAM' that's focused and on the ball.

I take this seriously. :-) and have a blast learning as well. It sure helps and understanding the NFL as a whole. Right now I feel I know where ILB Rashaan Evans from Alabama should likely land on our Mock. He's a solid fit for this team and as he was a solid fit as well for Baltimore.

It'll be interesting where in our Mock he does land.

Wow, didn't think that the Cowboys needed OL, that pick's a shocker.

That pick by joemailman was 'in fact' very solid.

Why?

In latter Drafts the Boys invested three first-round picks on the OL and LT Tyron Smith, C Travis Frederick and RG Zach Martin who were all hits !

RT La’el Collins, had a first-round grade coming out of LSU and has tremendous upside. Collins waa moved to Tackle after two seasons at LG. The Cowboys now need a better option at LG.

Last year Jonathan Cooper (a former NO. 1 Pick for Arizona) manned the LG spot for Dallas. He never panned out for Arizona, the NE Patriots or the Cleveland Browns prior to landing with the Cowboys. He was clearly the weak link of the Dallas OL.

If Dallas can find themselves a better starter at LG, they could see a solid upswing in production from both RB Ezekiel Elliott and QB Dac Prescott.

See (again) joemailman's Pick and a very solid bet as the answer for Dallas and the LG Position; UTEP guard Will Hernandez.

My point about Dallas is that their secondary is terrible and with CB Josh Jackson available, that would have been a better pick. They already have a top 5 OL. So why bolster an already huge strength in Rd 1 when you can help one of the worst secondaries? But, it's only a mock draft so it can be mocked. Mock Mock Mock. On to pick #20!

Cowboys would have loved to have Calvin Ridley or Leighton Vander Esch. With those gone, Cowboys will strengthen their interior offensive line with William Hernandez, G, UTEP

The Detroit Lions and Deputy Nutz are on the clock.

Deputy Nutz has been on the clock for 19 Hours !

Isn't anyone's responsibility to attend to their pick held to some standard of accountability here?

Should we be concerned about Deputy Nutz?

Has the Power gone out where he lives?

Have we aborted this MOCK for the Weekend?

Shouldn't we in the future set a time limit of say 4 Hours Max and making a pick; Do we need a Poll?

I can make the pick in 45 Minutes. There are so many smart asses here that might Trump that.

The Detroit Lions have six picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, including No. 20

THE TOP 3 DETROIT LIONS NEEDS IN 2018 DRAFT

1. PASS RUSH: The Lions have immediate and long term needs at DE, Ezekiel Ansah getting the tag and possibly headed out as a FA (2019) has to be a concern. Anthony Zettel and Kerry Hyder (coming off a torn Achilles) are the Lions' No's. 2 and 3 DE's. Devon Kennard adds a pass-rushing element to the edge from his linebacker spot, After that the Lions are thin.

They must therefore get one quality prospect to address the issue and Pass Rush. Where is that most likely but in Round One.

Possible choices are:

EDGE Marcus Davenport UTSA -6'6" - 264 lbs;

Arden Key - LSU 6'5" - 238 lbs (Some Issues) ;

DL - 3 Tech Taven Bryan - Florida -6'5" - 291 lbs or DL- 3 Tech Maurice Hurst - Michigan 6'1" - 292 lbs or

ILB Rashaan Evans - Alabama- 6'2" - 232 lbs

2. Running back: No team was worse running the ball than the Lions last year, and the organization went into this offseason planning to add a veteran in free agency and a rookie through the draft. Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick, Zach Zenner and Tion Green all return from last season, but none is the long-term answer to the Lions' problems. Patricia believes in a running back-by-committee approach, so the Lions don't necessarily have to spend a top pick on the position. But they need to add someone who can be the focal point of the running game going forward.

As attractive as Featured RB Derrius Guice - LSU and 5'-10" and 224 lbs may be !? Is he the right investment and Round one?

3. Interior offensive line: The Lions have a big question mark on the offensive line entering the draft. Graham Glasgow has made starts at both center and left guard the last two years, and if he moves to center full-time then Joe Dahl is the favorite to start at guard. Dahl is inexperienced. They signed FA's Wesley Johnson and Kenny Wiggins Does those moves inspire confidence? With right guard T.J. Lang entering his age-31 season, it's imperative the Lions draft an interior lineman.

They can wait until at least Round Three to do that.

Personally I believe that Deputy Nutz will pick:

Round One and Pick NO. 20: Marcus Davenport, DE, Texas-San Antonio

Deputy Nutz might consider @ RB and Round 2-Pick 51 Overall: Sony Michel, RB, Georgia (5-11, 214.

I see Options at C/C in Round Three.

When the Bengals get on the clock, they like what they see. 4 QBs and 3 LBs pushes good players to them.

Good news is there are no TEs off the board, and with Eifert nearing the end they need one. Bad news: no TEs are worth a first round pick this year.

There is no doubt they need OL help, pretty much everywhere except LT. McGlinchey is a consideration here, but they see better value. Interior linemen can be had later.

Two players have fallen a lot farther than expected. Joshua Jackson is tempting, especially with Pacman Jones gone, but the guy they can't take their eyes off is Da'Ron Payne. After displaying surprising speed at the combine (a 4.95 40 at 311lbs, and a 10 yard split faster than Bosa) he could've gone in the top 10, but there he is at 21.

Cinncinati Bengals select Da'Ron Payne, Alabama

So, um, Roll Tide!

Buffalo was upset at first when they couldn't combine their 2 no.1s and jump up to draft their QB of the future. Low and behold their guy, or the guy they'll go to their grave saying was the choice all along, falls to 12 and the Buffalo Bills come away with Josh Allen and getting to keep their other 1st round pick.

With that second first round pick, the Buffalo Bills would like to help protect their QB of the future. And With 3 recent offensive line vacancies the Bills are in need of help along that offensive line. James Daniels, the combo Guard/Center from Iowa gives the Bills some flexibility when trying to fill the other line positions. So when the 22nd pick is announced in the Packer Rats NFL Mock Draft 2018, the Buffalo Bills select James Daniels.

Despite their losses in free agency, the New England Patriots have one of the deepest rosters in the league. However, there are still some noticeable holes that need to be addressed both in the short and in the long run: from starting left tackle to linebacker to cornerback to developmental quarterback. Entering this month's draft with plenty of capital, the Patriots will have plenty of chances to bolster all of those positions.

The Patriots select the top offensive tackle to enter this year's draft: Mike McGlinchey. The Notre Dame product offers ideal size (the 6'8, 310 lbs), plenty of experience and athletic upside, and is already a very good run blocker that has the potential to become a first-class pass protector as well.

He starts day one in Nick Solders spot

NE cannot believe he lasted this far. They have four players left who are in the tier of top 20 players and they take the BPA on their board.

Solid as usual Bretzky. I had your pick (and another solid option) as well in that slot. Your correct and Belichick will love how Packerats picks for his Patriots.

I also liked Guiness's Pick NO.21 Cincinnati Bengals -- Da'Ron Payne, DL1T - Alabama as one that fits the Draft Pundits Analysis for the Bengals.

Good pick, nice write-up. Athough I were a GM, I'd never draft a fat guy (offensive linemen, fat defensive linemen) in the 1st round. They lack exoticness.

Yup. I'm watching for CB Joshua Jackson to come off our Board between Picks 29 - 31.

I've a feel for the Pittsburgh Steelers Pick at NO. 28 and I wonder if I'll be right there.

A few guys I like better than Joshua Jackson there; even at CB; maybe it's just because I hate Iowa

This CB Prospect:

a tough, instinctive CB prospect. He spent the majority of his time on the outside, but he did take a few reps at the nickel spot.

He's excellent in press coverage. He consistently re-routes his opponent with a quick two-hand ja

He has a little stiffness when he opens up, but he's rarely out of position underneath or down the field.

From off coverage, he has a choppy pedal, but he boasts an excellent burst out of his plant and drive.

His route recognition, throw anticipation and ball awareness are elite.

He collected several pass breakups in every game I studied.

He's very willing in run support and provides some big hits.

Overall, (he) acks ideal fluidity, but I love his instincts, swagger and ball skills.

That's Daniel Jeremiah's synopsis on CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville. His NO. 16 Ranked Prospect.

NOTE:

** C Mike Hughes is Jeremiah's NO. 18 Ranked Prospect on his TOP 50 Board.

Daniel Jeremiah has moved CB Josh Jackson down NINE Slots to his NO. 27th Ranked Prospect of his Top 50.

NO. 28 ... Donte Jackson, CB, LSU

NO. 36 ... Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado

Nice Pick:

Ranked at NO. 23 in Daniel Jeremiah's TOP Fifty Prospects:

James Daniels, C, Iowa 6' - 3 " 306 lbs and in his last update raised this Prospect up 2 slots.

" Daniels is a very athletic and technically proficient center. In the run game, he's extremely quick and effective on reach blocks and second-level blocks.

I'm amazed by his ability to stay attached with his hands while he re-works his foot positioning.

In pass pro, he plays with outstanding knee bend and balance. He shoots his hands quickly and can anchor against power as well as redirect vs. counters.

He's very aware. Daniels is one of the best center prospects I've evaluated in the last five years.

CAROLINA PANTHERS – PICK #24

The Panthers were a wild card playoff team last year and have a few positions where youth needs to be added. Some options:

RB Derrius Guice is compact and fast. They have McCaffrey but could add another back after releasing Jonathan Stewart.
CB Josh Jackson or CB Jaire Alexander could add depth since Bashaud Breeland was not signed.
WR DJ Moore has the speed to get deep.
S Justin Reid would would become a solid starter for an aging position.
OG Isaiah Wynn would fill what is currently a hole at LG.

Another position that needs some youth is at DE. Both starters are over 30 and Julius Peppers is 38. DE Taven Bryan has the speed and quickness to start at DE. He can play in the DE rotation (while learning from Peppers) and should be a starter in his second year.

With the 24th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select:

Taven Bryan, DT, Florida

Edit: Bryan played DT at Florida and is listed at DT. He could play either but to me looks more like a DE in the NFL.

A solid pick for the Panthers and given the strength of this Draft. Many Teams need to hit on the Round One pick.

A prominent NFL Draft Analyst has these comments on DT3T Taven Bryen:

Taven Bryan, DT, Florida

" ... He's a very athletic, twitched-up defensive tackle. As a pass rusher, he has an excellent get-off. He launches out of his stance and flashes an impressive push/pull move to generate pressure. When he has proper hand placement, he can push the pocket with outstanding power. ..."

Criticisms:

" He needs to add more hand moves to his arsenal, but he has the raw tools to develop into an outstanding interior pass rusher at the next level.

Bryan is very inconsistent against the run. He plays too high, struggles to resist pressure on angle blocks and loses sight of the ball.

He's at his best when slanting and shooting gaps. Overall, Bryan isn't a finished product, but he has Pro Bowl-caliber traits and could emerge as a premier interior pass rusher."

Bryan is not an end. He is more a penetrator from the 3 tech spot. He gets off the ball better than anyone in the draft but he struggles to anchor.

Bobble first indicated he would PM the pick. But after Nutz was AWOD for 24 hours, he said he would be at his designation in time for his pick. So I think he intends to make it later today. I have not received an message from him yet. Though I probably should check the emergency backup AOL email account.

always blaming me. my pick got to me at the wrong time, Friday evening is the worst, I never check this forum on Friday night or the weekend.

The only Annual Packerrat Packer game weekend shindig. A helluva long time ago Tank. It was a fun time, but I can't remember hitting it off with Partial. I had a great time watching the game with Bretsky, Wallbangers and his long lost forum friend. Skinbasket got incredibly drunk on Saturday night and was in bed by 10:00, Tarlam disappeared before that due to jetlag. We all slowly caught up with Skinbasket and I was puking by 4:00am and taking turns on the toilet with Skinbasket the rest of the morning. Madtown was a trip, we didn't exactly hit it off at 7:00am on Sunday morning, but I think he is a pretty genuine dude. I can't really remember more than that. Packers did manage to lose to the Bears. Its too bad that the old guard of the forum is mostly gone, I know I have disappeared for years at time.

The game sucked, but that was a good time. There were actually two of those shindigs. I think that may have been the second year. I think the first one was the Atlanta game the first year Rodgers started. I remember the Oval Office and grabbing a few delicious brats from street vendors at 2am. GBM was a trooper for hosting some of us. Staying up all night with superfan and JustinHarrell playing guitar hero or something. I think Partial passed out. I also remember trying to teach Partial how to throw a football.

Landry is a terrible reach

In fact EDGE Harold Landry does look like a wee bit of a reach until you do some more analysis.

The first WR was picked at Pick NO. 16 and through 24 Picks only one CB has been picked. Theses are both positions of major need for the Green Bay Packers; but I feel the major issue is an improved Pass Rush.

An improved Pass Rush will take some heat off; what right now appears to be a Secondary that's even worse than the mess we saw at DB last Season.
