7 of the top 10 are Wisconsin. How much is accessibility (since there's a brewery on every corner), and how much is beer culture?

It's the culture more that anything. Alcohol is available anywhere in the US, but here it is expected to be part of the lifestyle, such that people who don't drink are looked at strangely and discussions of some sports player getting a DUI will get shrugs and 'Everybody does it at some time, it's just if you happen to get caught" type comments.

I checked just out of interest to see how much Canadians drink on a basis of a comparison of the average Canadian Vs the drinking of 18 year olds and over on a comparison of the Provinces of Canada:

Note: A.) one US Gallon equals 0.888 Imperial Gallons or one Canadian Gallon = 1.2 US gallons.

B.) The US gallon is 3.785411784 liters.

http://wpmedia.montrealgazette.com/2014/12/how_much_canada_drank_in_2013-1.png?w=640&h=450

How much alcoholic beverages (in Canadian Liters) Canadians on Average and in the Provinces drank in a 2013 Report

Quebecers drank 144 litres of alcoholic beverages per person of drinking age (18 years or more) in 2013, the highest of any province (excluding territories).

The Province of New Brunswick (or my Home Province) is the country’s closest thing to 'a teetotal mecca', having drunk only 102 litres of alcohol per head.

Newfoundland and Labrador drank 101.2 liters of beer = 26.74 US Gallons of Beer.

Newfoundland and Labrador also led the way in drinking Rum and consuming 4.5 liters of Rum or 1.19 US Gallons of Rum per year in 2015 and the calculation is based on residents 18 years of age and older.

144 liters equals 38.04 US Gallons

http://wpmedia.montrealgazette.com/2014/12/how_much_canada_spent_on_alcohol_in_2013.png?w=640&h=450

Based on the same (2013) Report. How much Canadians on average and in the Provinces spent on Alcoholic Beverages

Quebecers were not the biggest spenders when it came to alcohol. This honour belongs to Newfoundland and Labrador, which ** spent $1,016 per adult in 2013. Quebecers came in third place, at $805 per adult.

Note: ** A 750-millilitre bottle of Bacardi white rum goes for $27 at a Newfoundland Liquor Store, while the same retails for $22 at the SAQ.

Milwaukee is really letting us down too.

I wonder if this is self reported? If you look internationally, the amount of liquor the US drinks is pretty low. Germany and Australia and a few others make us look out of practice.

I believe they polled residents about drinking habits. The final number is a combo of drinking to excess, DUI, drinking deaths, and some other stats I don't recall.

Marathon County is a 2 year commuter school. Nothing wrong with them, give a fine education and if you do well, guaranteed entry into a 4 year state school.

A Lesson in Cultural Differences:

Settling differences 'Maritime style' and 'the Boys'; after a shift have some need and will be drinking.

In Eastern Canada 'its a cultural thing' and 'any shit' is handled rather quickly. It's either put Em' up or "shut 'the 'F' up" and change your stinking attitude 'in Jig Time' (that means - really fast).

In other words: You need to 'back your shit up' or keep your shit to yourself.

In Eastern Canada or (the Maritimes and NFLD); ignorance isn't tolerated. You get smarter 'really quick', or get called outside (and you know what's coming next (that's never 'a good thing').

To be graphic and picture this: It gets too 'seriously nasty and getting the CRAP kicked out of you', if you have 'a stupid/crazy mouth and/or 'a silly assed Dinkhead' attitude.

Sadly Dinkheads need to learn the hard way. Why? Because their ... Dinkheads.

This is advice for you if your a Dinkhead, because I have compassion for your stupidity:

I'd suggest that you never plan a trip to Eastern Canada. Now, in youir 'Dinkhead way', and maybe you do want an ultimate experience and 'the finest of people - with 'a flip side'. You had better have 'an excellent Medical Travel Plan', because as you are, your likely going to need to get to a hospital if 'your lucky'. If your not lucky it can get to far worse for you. You might simply disappear. I'm not shiting you here.

Because I really care. I'll illustrate the above and well, appreciate this as 'A Practical Lesson':

What we have here is 'an Newfoundlander dealing with 'a Frenchman'. The Newfoundlander (coming on Shift) is going to do his best: 'You better smarten up real fast Bye' with 'the Frenchman' (coming off Shift).

Notice the attitude of the Frenchman. That's the 'Big Mouth' with his 'lazy - whiney stupid assed - no manners attitude. That 'piece of useless flesh', sitting in the chair and leaning back against the back wall. He's 'being told' or in other words, taught a lesson in 'how it is'. Slow as that might be and 'the Frenchman's stubborness to learn. He'll either get there or his health is going to be seriously jeopardized:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbdEAgHLpf8

Well Damn and it's rather predictable as stupid isn't easily modified.Evidently, the Guy (again) on the back wall. The 'seriously backstabbing lazy assed French idiot', hasn't learned a thing. That means he's a step closer to getting 'his shit shaken out of him'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmT9oAcKQvs

Now what will become of this?

I'm pretty sure 'as stupidity' is 'just' stupid. Shit's going to happen really soon.

What is the culturally appropriate response in Western Canada?

Depends, sometimes we take it outside, sometimes we have a beer and ignore it. Some times we ignore it until we have too many beer and then it gets taken outside. Ideally nothing happens, but sometimes it does.

As to universal health care and broken bones, we have to pay for casts but not for the doctor. Makes it way cheaper to be stupid.

Here, the doc charges for x-rays, casts and good ole doctor's time. Asks patient to come back in a few weeks for a "follow-up," code word for let us milk you some more. At follow-up, doc looks at bone for 5 minutes, prescribes dope, then charges patient $600. A minor broken bone could cost somewhere between $800-2000, if not more, easily. Suffice it to say, the USA healthcare system values profit more than patients' well-being.

A fucked up system.

No, not everyone is blessed with the awesome health insurance Tex has.
