an nfl great. when he retired he was the #2 all-time rusher behind only jim brown who he beat in 62 for the rushing title that season. i met him once. he was very nice and talked for a long time with me and the kids.

He was my favorite Packer player. I wore #31 in high school.

Best JT story - I think I read it in Instant Replay by Jerry Kramer...

Taylor was busting off a longish run with a clear field for the touchdown when, at the last moment, he cut back and purposely demolished a DB on the way to the end zone. Lombardi went semi ballistic and asked what he was thinking. Taylor replied " you gotta make 'em respect you".

His teams were why a young Alaskan became a lifelong Packer fan. RIP

The Lombardi Pack are shuffling off one by one.

Jimmy Taylor was a HOF star by any measure. He was ahead of his time in several respects. Taylor was a weight lifting fanatic at a time when pumping iron was frowned upon by the old time coaches. Lifting weights was thought to make football players "muscle bound", too stiff to have the agility necessary to play ball.

Taylor also realized his value to the team and had a contentious relationship with Lombardi over contract issues. He actually played out his option, playing for a whole year at a salary reduction of 20% to do so. Taylor wasn't signed by New Orleans as a FA. He was traded to the expansion team for their '68 number one pick. The Pack signed LB Fred Carr with that pick.

RIP, Bayou Blaster, you were an all-time Packer, that's for sure.

5.5 in the 50; 10.8 in the 100 - he gets better in the second half; that sounds like the Jim Taylor I remember hahahaha.

It's good stubby didn't coach back then. Taylor would have barely been on the field.

Of course exactly like that. Duh!

RnS hates all things TT and MM since the BF debacle of 2008. He even bitched at AR being a pussy unlike BF and would never come back in a game hurt during week 1.

It is old and boring.

Never got to see the Lombardi era Packers play. Condolences to his family.

I did make a comment about AR getting hurt and not coming back. I also ate my words and admitted I was wrong when he did. The Favre debacle has nothing to do with my dislike for TT and stubby. Both TT and stubby are overrated and mediocre at best. But you keep that lip lock on their sacks if that works for you.

Yes, making factual statements rather than crazy out of your ass statements makes me the one with "that lip lock on their sacks".

And, so, back to Jim Taylor.

Great player, greatest early memories.

Taylor and Hornung. And Starr, and Robinson, and McGee, and Wood, Dowler and......who was that guy at middle linebacker?

Sheesh...give it a break.
