Originally known as the "Cover 2" and invented by Tony Dungy when he coached the Buccaneers, I'm guessing it was created primarily to stop Tampa's biggest headache at the time: Brett Favre. I could easily be wrong about this, but I'm guessing its the same reason Minnesota and Detroit are going to it too. Chicago started running it when Lovie Smith took over. I think its a good defense that can be exploited by a patient, balanced offense - its just a question of whether or not we will have the protection we need to do that this season.
