A few people commenting that Trey Matthews is a legit safety. Must mean the position has improved quite a bit.

I wonder if there's any strategy as to when they release a player?
Do they think teams are so busy with their own cuts that they may be able to sneak somebody back on the practice squad early?
Do they hold certain players right until the end for the same reason, hoping to sign them back to the practice squad due to all the noise from the mass release on Saturday?

I'd suspect that yes, releasing a group of players early does somewhat cloud the waters, but I it could be a tool to help eliminate the camp fodder and place more focus on the remaining upcoming cuts. Also, I'm quite sure that GB and the other 31 teams are all very aware of who is cut from what teams as soon as the the commissioner releases that info. to all teams simultaneously. There is a day/date deadline for all teams and the pool of cut players will be carefully examined by all.

I can't say if any position starters have emerged from the "cut player pool" in he last 5 or 6 seasons, but if GB can secure a jewel from that pool would be a lucky find.

The folks who quoted him yesterday said he was "straightening" or "cleaning" up his locker. Possibly just avoiding the "cleared out" or "cleaned out" verbiage.

Lucas Patrick for the win.

If Edgerton native Steve Stricker, I mean Elgton Jenkins/Taylor are at guard (other is backup inside) AND Lucas Patrick should make the roster (backup at inside positions) the means 8 OL at least on roster because neither of those guys are tackles unless they really think Turner can do it.

Bill Huber on J'Mon Moore: https://mavensports.io/packers/news/packers-give-up-on-drop-plagued-moore-cLBekrZnqUy6qKJ0l4jknA/

Moore simply was not ready for prime time in his year-plus with the team. On Family Night as a rookie in 2018, Moore dropped a touchdown pass. A week later, in the preseason opener against Tennessee, Moore dropped two passes. A week after that, he dropped another pass. Because of his horrendous training camp, Moore was a total nonfactor with just two catches and 74 offensive snaps last season. In this year’s preseason opener, he dropped one touchdown pass and barely held onto another.

His quotes in the article seem to show he knew the hole he had dug. Not quite as much denial as the Thursday quotes when he likely knew his time was over. Feel a bit bad for the kid.

McCray seemed like a real find in 2017, therefore the early favorite to take over as a starter in 2018. In reality, he probably outplayed himself in 2017. I expect he will have a longer career as a reliable backup for some team(s) in the seasons to come, or as the starter who his team always wants to upgrade. In the end, he will have a ten year career playing for different teams every year or two, while starting only a few games each year. Hard working, dependable. Unfortunately for McCray, GB has a slug of interior linemen, including some younger with probably more potential.

Some team somewhere will need him.

OK, serious fan question time. Who are the Game Day active 7 offensive lineman? Or two active backups I suppose.

If Bach–Taylor–Linsley–Turner–Bulaga start, gotta have a tackle and interior.

I am guessing Light and Patrick. Unless they really trust Jenkins as center, which they might.

Kudos to Gooter for letting Kizer loose after he traded for him. Shows good character that he could move on

Yep. He was hired by the Packers when Wolf was still the GM, and although he worked more with Thompson, he reminds me more of Wolf than Thompson.

Still could happen, though I suspect we'd get word if it was. Keeping Taylor as backup is expensive.

You never want to press a rookie into the starting lineup on game 1 if you don’t have to. Installing a new offense, I think it’s helped a lot that everyone of the starters, not just on the OL, but across the board, has a decent amount of NFL experience. And up front they have a ton of experience so just the communication and checks and protections should be smooth.... That is worth something. Glad we have Taylor for another year at least.

I'm surprised Cole Madison made the roster. I didn't see a whole lot from him during any of the preseason games. I'm guessing his 5th RD draft status and taking a year off bought him a reprieve.

Only sign that the Packers really liked him was about a week ago. Coach Stenovich was asked about him and he said, he’s doing a nice job but that he thinks in a year or two the Packers are really going to be happy to have kept him around. Coach made it sound like he had a ton of upside. With 8 guys who can play right now, i started thinking Madison had a good chance at getting a redshirt high upside year.

Montravius Adams is another guy who we kept around based on long term upside. And that one is paying off now. Madison has that sort of feel to him, more of a long term development.

Packerswire reporting St. Brown placed on season-ending IR. I thought he was originally on 53 roster so he coild be brought back.

There's a lot to like about him. I don't think Packers could have gotten him to the PS.

Bad original report. He did not make the roster.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
Notable moves: The #Seahawks cut QB Geno Smith, giving them just 1 QB behind Russell Wilson. … The #Packers placed WR Equanimeous St. Brown on IR, his season is over. … The #Patriots placed D David Andrews on season-ending IR.

Agree. He doesn't seem to hesitate if a guy isn't up to the task. Like it.

He was last year. Another reminder about how important ST play is with these last roster spots.

good call. You've been on fire/on the money this whole off-season, pre-season and beyond.

He should land on the practice squad.
