The Giants actually found a trade partner for B.J. Goodson, per source. They were planning to waive him. Instead he’s getting shipped to the Packers.

“Obviously, Ty had a really good preseason and kind of stepped up and made us feel pretty comfortable about keeping him around,” Gutekunst said.

So who goes? Crawford? Summers? Fadol Brown?

I was expecting a move for a veteran ILB. Thought it would happen yesterday.

Perhaps they put Burks on IR.

Alas, it's never easy finding a good BJ.

Now if a safety gets injured, Greene can move to safety and Goodson can be an experienced backup at ILB.

If Martinez or Greene go down, Goodson can be an experienced piece to fill in so Summers doesn’t have to start.

We were one injury to a S or ILB away from disaster. Now we can absorb an injury better.

Like the deal; also good to have another experienced LB in case some of them suck. Why did we deal Reggie Gilbert again ? I liked that dude

I think they'll try to bring Burks back. He needs the development, and they want to see him in Year 2 of Pettine. Also, they'd probably not have made all the 'not season ending' comments re: Burks' injury.

I think Fadol Brown and Crawford are definitely on the bubble. Besides ST, I'm not sure how Crawford made it.

Seems like they still need a cover linebacker...which IMO also means they'll want Burks back.

Looks sloth. Antonio Morrison, part deux?

I was under the impression that if they put Burks on IR now, they can bring him back.

Now lets pick up Elijah McGuire who the Jets cut loose. I'd rather have the guy who beat him out for the backup to Leveon Bell, but....

ILB Breakdown

Martinez is our every down guy
Goodson is our run defense specialist
Burks is our pass coverage backer and probable second starter when he comes back

Greene and Campbell (when he gets back) are our hybrid nickel/dime backers

Not great, but for our weakest position, there are a lot of teams who don’t have a guy as good as Martinez so it could be a lot worse.

No terms given; I hope they didn't give any more than a 7th rounder for this guy. Summers should be the second ILB. Cut the new guy when Burks is back healthy.

supposedly there were more than one team interested. might end up being a 5th or 6th.

They essentially gave up nothing

The Packers agreed to a conditional swap of draft picks in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL Draft, offering up the 7th-rounder that they acquired from the Baltimore Ravens last year in exchange for Ty Montgomery.

It's not even easy to find a bad BJ.
