Pettine needs the bye week to figure out his broken defense

I’m surprised this is your biggest concern after a sub 100 yard, 3 point offensive performance. Upon further consideration, are you sure this is still your biggest gripe?

Sure. ARod and offense were bad. But chargers have scored on almost every possession, no turnovers, minimal pressure on rivers, etc.

For a good part of this game, the defense was doing what they've been doing. Giving up yards, but not TD's. The ineptitude of the offense forced the defense to be out there too much. Defense wasn't good, but for a while they gave the offense time to get back in the game. Offense never showed up.

Pettine needs the bye week to figure out his broken defense

Tremendous scheming by the offense the past 3 or 4 games has masked defensive problems and no adjustments
have been made by Pettine.

I thought at the beginning of the season that spending big bucks on defensive free agents would move our defense
at least to the middle of the pack. That hasn't happened. Better in the red zone. Otherwise very little difference.

Do you think LaFleur will work twice as hard to fix issues, change game plans, and switch up personnel to right the ship?

Do you think Pettine's defense will look exactly the same versus Carolina next week?

I know I melted down for 3 quarters, but that’s not as bad as it looked.

First of all, Chargers getting healthy. I knew this was coming soon for them.
Second, penalties early put us in bad situations
Third, Chargers will be a top 10 offense the rest of the way so it’s not as bad as that looked
Forth, the young team needed this lesson. On the road vs afc team is the place to learn it
Fifth, everyone is healthy
Sixth, they had a weird week with Monday off for the first time all year to give the guys a mental break and physical one. They had a big Halloween celebration. Then they traveled west coast. They did need a break to get recharged even though it cost us a win

I do think this will prove to be a good loss. They’re gonna bounce back.

Even a decent showing by the offense would probably have kept SD at 20 points. Packs have a good defense but not a shut down defense. Still, I don’t know many Ds that can win a game like this with this kind of offensive ineptitude.

All week the "experts" have been saying that GB was not as good as other top teams because of their defense.
Defense didn't lose this game, but it didn't win it, either. When we don't get a turnover, our defense looks
pretty pathetic.

Our offense has been winning by concentrating on one matchup we can win. Jones and Williams as receivers against
LBs, our RBs having a big day against a 6 man box, or Adams matching up against a beat up secondary. Our OL played poorly today
but we didn't have a match up we could win. With Adams limited, they took away our RBs and we don't have anybody else to win a matchup with.

Bad game or a harbinger for the rest of the season? I haven't changed my opinion. This team has the talent of a 9-7 team. The offensive
planning has been great. We've been lucky with our lack of injuries and scheduled teams being pretty beat up. We've won games that we
probably shouldn't have won. I figured 5-4 and we're actually 7-2.

I am concerned that our defense has regressed, but we have a good chance to win 10 or 11 if we stay healthy. After all, we have Washington and the NYG
on the schedule. I think we've got a good chance at the playoffs, but a very small chance at the big prize.

Back to arguing with Harv.

At the snap, Packers slant to their right. Puts Clark in the Defense's right A gap, Martinez has left A gap and Dr. Smith has the left B gap.

Image service shrunk this down. But from L to R its Fackrell, Gary, Clark, Martinez(LB), Z Smith and P Smith.

Ekeler will go through Martinez and ZaSmiths gaps then cut back toward Clark after he hits the whole.

Originally, this is where I thought Dr. Zaius lost. He is engulfed with no free arm or angle to his B gap (to his right, offenses left). Martinez is reading but not crashing which will soon be a problem. Clark definitely does take a hard charging slant to his right. Harv is not entirely wrong, this looks weird. But maybe they were running a stunt?

Gary (offenses left) gets penetration but he is walled off of the backside of the play. Seeing how the OG plays him, he should fight back across that guy or chase down the line. Rivers isn't going to boot to the QB left successfully.

pbmax
11-03-2019, 08:33 PM
Here is where I missed the play. Dr. Zaius has freed his right side to play his B gap. Martinez is stuck in no man's land. He has not defeated the block not gotten inside it. He is so deep, he is essentially giving the RB a two way go.

Clark is too wide and isn't helping Martinez here at all squeezing either A gap. But he is in his gap even if its not ideal.

Its not the worst run D they have played. Its a good setup versus a short run. But with Martinez off the LOS and Clark wide, the RB cuts off of Dr. Zaius (looks like the target hole) and cuts across Blake for an easy conversion.

Sheeeeeeeesh! Would you say the same about the Patriots based on how they played today? The Vikings? Seattle played like crap and barely survived - how about them?

Is there ANYBODY who is "good enough to win a championship"?

Thanks for listening

I hope someone other than ThunderDan starts the GameDay thread next week. Otherwise, Imma have to boycott the GD thread. Maybe one of my pals will start thread at 3 AM Sunday morning while ThunderDan is still in bed. Yo, Nutz, Harlan, Harrell and Pugger!

Pugger hasn’t posted since January. She is posting on another forum.

My pal Nutz ain’t posted since the Packers took the Fucking Center over Metcalf. Ain’t make Nutz any less my pal.

Good to see Pugger is doing well. Ain’t gonna waste time and creativity at any other site, so I ain’t sure what up with her.

I use the word ain’t too much, and I ain’t even a southerner.

I think it was upset Sunday. Even Miami won. At a minimum, it wasn't the NFCN's day.

6th game this year that both lines got out played.

They wouldn't be 7-2 if both lines had been outplayed 6 times already.

Sure, upset Sunday except the Colts couldn't manage to beat the Steelers because of an injured QB and sub-prime kicker Vinatieri.

Not bitter at all. Loved the KC game though.

She thinks you are a crazy goof and has said so in this forum, for one thing.

Unless you have a HOF QB.

Colts had to put the ancient Steny Hoyer in there. Ugly.

He actually looked pretty good. Remember him with the Bears a couple of years ago? He was on fire, at least according to the standard set by Bears QBs, until Peppers broke his arm. I think he might actually be one of those Frank Reich, Don Strock type guys who just last forever and are good for a couple of stellar relief appearances after age 40.
