Sure, you curse Dan Devine when you get up in the morning.

But do you remember his playoff year?

New book will remind you of all the gory details.

I remember John Brockington and MacArthur Lane pulverizing defenses.

I remember the Packers beating the Lions on Monday Night Football and Howard Cosell gushing "I like this team!"

I remember that defense with Kenny Ellis and Willie Buchanon at CB, and Dave Robinson, Fred Carr and Jim Carter at LB was damn good.

I remember a rookie kicker named Chester Marcol with 4 FG's on opening day as the Packers beat the Browns 26-14.

I remember the playoff loss to the Redskins when the Redskins put 8-9 guys in the box all game because Scott Hunter was the QB.

That was my senior year in high school. My buddies a I were talking the whole season about the Pack coming back and the Dolphins may be going undefeated. Brockington and Lane were absolute beasts. Marcol was as advertised coming out of college, a big leg and accurate. The D was stout and if I remember correctly, they played a lot of man. Buchanon was fun to watch. Unfortunately, Devine had to be a dick during the playoff game against the Skins and not allow Starr to call pass plays against that stacked box but it was sooooo nice to see them return to the playoffs after Lombardi left.

My first memories of the Packers are of my parents praising Brockington and complaining about Devine.
