Schedule to be released Thursday Night.

https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2020/05/06/packers-schedule-2020-season-games-against-jaguars-texans-colts-titans/

The first four weeks of the 2020 season might have the Green Bay Packers face all four teams in the AFC South.

John Clayton of 710 ESPN in Seattle confirmed to USA TODAY Sports Media Group that the NFL has discussed having all teams begin the season with four out-of-conference games as a scheduling precaution in case the league has to delay the start of the year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The four games each team plays against the other conference – for instance, the Packers play the AFC South in 2020 – are considered the least important in terms of determining division winners and playoff standings.

I hope @JimmyKempski posts his annual formula again which explains how every team will go 11-5.

Jimmy Kempski @JimmyKempski

- Sweep the crappy team in the division.
- Split w/ the avg team & the good team in the division.
- Win 4 of remaining 5 home games, inc 1 big win over SB contender, 1 bad trap game loss.
- Win 3 of remaining 5 road games, 2-0 vs bad teams, 1-2 vs playoff contenders.

Boom. 11-5.

I saw that. That’s a short flight for them. Plus I’m not high at all on Seattle this year “Other then Russell Wilson”. Their gonna lose Clowney and their roster looks horrible. They got key guys coming off injury and their old. I would say this will be Pete Carroll’s last year in Seattle. I would be shocked if Seattle made the playoffs but yeah they still gotta chase Wilson around.

Well they were minimum $800 and up awhile ago and now you can get them for under $400.

It’s one of those deals where tickets get dispersed as it’s a neutral site game.

Nobody really knows. I have heard NFL is prepared to play with limited fans or no fans if necessary. Also will include Saturday games if no college season.

College is a whole different story due to bigger liability issues so less chance they play most likely.

Well just have to wait and see. Makes it hard to plan anything though.

I went to ESPN and looked at what the hometown reporters predicted for W/L when they play the Packers. Packers would be 13-3. Only the Eagles, 49ers, and Vikings (split) writers predicted their team would beat the Packers. Same as mine—except the New Orleans writer predicted the Saints would lose at home to the Packers. :whaa:

That's very interesting. Could it possibly be that some of those other teams are plagued with negativist media people masquerading as realists too?

We can thank or blame the toughness of the schedule, of course, on winning the division. Having road games, though, against 2 of the other 3 division winners, and the two toughest ones at that, that's a bit of bad luck. We'll see how it shakes out. As they say, that's why they play the games.

It’s called ‘scheduling’. Packers play the NFC South and it’s their turn to play at New Orleans.

Packers two open games are against the other NFC division winners because the Packers won their own division. One is at home (Philly) and one is on the road (SF).

There is actually no luck involved at all.

Baseball would be hurt by this more than football. But the TV revenue is the big deal in both cases.

They'd rather do both. But if they can secure testing and figure out how to quarantine players in there is an intra-team outbreak, they'll do empty stadiums first.

Lotta questions though, you have a lot of team personnel that come into contact with players and then people running the game at the stadium. Have to test everyone and be ready to quarantine.

The 49ers game for Green Bay is just brutal. Their 4th game in 19 days, on short rest, all the way on the West Coast, against a damn good football team who handed them their lunch twice in 2019. It’s also following a divisional rivalry game against Minnesota. A massive challenge.

I never like the x game in 19 days formulation, because the truth is by that form, a regularly scheduled 49er game would be the fourth game in 21/22 days.

Not only did the Packers not get their wish to be on the road the weekend of the Wisconsin-Notre Dame game at Lambeau, but now they'll have to figure out how to practice around that chaos on Saturday before their MNF home game.

Isn't that what I said? The reason is that we won the division. Getting the Niners on the road and the considerably weaker Eagles at home, though, was luck. And you may be correct that the last time we played the Saints was in Green Bay - I don't recall. But having "our turn" to go to their place when they are also a division champ is still IMO still a bit of bad luck.

No matter. Tough schedule or not, we'll be at or near the top anyway.

There is a formula for home and away in there but its complicated and basically involves the last game in a similar situation (both teams winning Division, etc.). Playoffs a separate matter.

Same reason it seemed like Packers never played Cowboys for all those run up years at Lambeau until 1997.

EDIT: Or see Dan's post.

Any games without fans or with less fans certainly would help the Packers. Since they don't draw much advantage from their docile crowd at Lambeau, they would gain more on the road than they would lose at home.

I don’t predict W/L records this time of year. Health is always a factor on how these things play out but I see 8 games minimum where I don’t know if we have the firepower to keep up if those teams are at full health.

We’re gonna need to score more points this year. That’s for sure.

Really. How will this team be worse than last year? The only thing I can imagine would really crater this team is a significant drop off in Rodger’s play. APRH.

Really. How will this team be worse than last year? The only thing I can imagine would really crater this team is a significant drop off in Rodger’s play. APRH.

Well to start “I expect injuries.” I think you have too especially in the NFL. I believe the chance of the Packers D staying as healthy as it did last year to be wishful thinking. Kirksey has about a 20 percent chance of staying healthy. Losing Kenny Clark for any amount of time could be catastrophic. There is also tape out there that shows how to basically run this defense over. I don’t trust Pettine to be able to adjust correctly. Z. Smith could start the year with a suspension. We’re gonna find out if Gary is a complete bust or not. Can’t hide him on the bench forever. Once again the Packers did next to zero too fix getting manhandled against the Niners.

We also have a schedule facing more teams with better QB’s that can score more right out the gate.

1.Cousins
2 Stafflord
3. Bree’s
4. Matt Ryan
5. Brady
6. D Watson
7. Cousins
8. Garapalo

That’s two months of tough sledding. If the Packers can’t stay healthy during this stretch things could get out of control quickly. The back half does get more friendly.

The Packers offense concerns me. Little to nothing has been done to truly open up the passing game. Zero short area quickness or speed and massive lack of explosion. We’ve simply gone from “Big Slot” which failed too “Mix and Match” TE’s and H-Backs. If teams shut our run game down I’m concerned that this offense can move the chains consistently. Wagner is a huge gamble at RT. I have questions of him holding up in the pass pro and staying healthy. It’s a downgrade from Bulaga any way you look at it.

Then you have “The Elephant In The Room” and how this relationship between Rodgers and LaFleur will evolve. If things get rocky early I could see the wheels falling off rather quickly. This is the gamble you take when you ignore needs and ignore supporting your franchise QB while being more interested in chasing Rainbows and Unicorns.

The bottom Line is the Packers will need to score more points to replicate last season’s performance.

8. Garapalo

Garrapolo, Stafford (x2), Cousins (x2) are all repeats from last year.

Ryan, Brees, Brady and Watson are new.

But you lose Rivers, Wentz and Dak.

BFD.

Don’t forget to leave out Foles twice instead of Trubisky. Tannehill and Wentz(again) too. It’s a tougher slate then last year any way you cut it. This defense will be more challenged then last year.

If Foles is an upgrade, than I would consider that a new obstacle.

4-4 is very realistic coming out the gate with games coming up against Chicago that “Mean Everything”

Chicago will be the threat this year. Last year they had injuries and bad QB play. It would not take much to improve from Trubisky.
