Don't know what to expect. Both teams stress running the ball, but neither team has their running backs available (Unless Aaron Jones plays). Packers have Rodgers though.

Packers 24
49ers 14

Finally, the San Francisco 49ers received some good news.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that the Niners are planning to activate tight end Jordan Reed off injured reserve to play tonight versus the Green Bay Packers.

Reed has been on IR since suffering a knee injury in Week 3.

The veteran tight end caught 11 passes for 85 yards and two scores before being injured. Reed helped fill in for George Kittle in Weeks 2 and 3, catching nine passes for 73 yards and two TDs in those games before getting injured.

Reed is a very good receiving TE when not injured. Packers will have to watch him.

So I haven't been keeping up. Is Jamaal Williams out, and AJ Dillon? What the hell?

And SF sounds decimated. This is one of those games like KC last year when Mahomes was out - even if GB wins, you're not sure it says all that much.

A road win against a conference opponent is always a big thing. It would almost (but not quite) make up for losing at home to the Vikings last week.

My gut tells me they lose for the following reasons:

1. Short week
2. Thursday night trip tow est coast
3. Pettine not adjusting

I'm heading up bowhunting. So at least I won't have to watch the misery as it unfolds.

Packers have elevated S Henry Black, CB Stanford Samuels and RB Dexter Williams from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday as COVID-19 replacements, and elevated G Ben Braden from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday. The #Packers are now hopeful that star RB Aaron Jones (calf) plays tonight vs #49ers, though it may end up being a limited role, sources say, which

alluded to earlier. He’ll warmup early and test it. If he’s 100% with no chance of reinjury, he plays..

Lazard is coming back. Mercedes is a weirdly effective player. He pass protects almost like an OT. Run blocks equally well. And then he can get a few yards sneaking out.

I’m a fan of

Adams
Lazard
Tonyan
Mercedes/MVS/Swerv (splitting time)
Jones/Williams

I think Rodgers can make a lot of hay with that lineup. MVS when it’s a long field and just have him run decoy wind sprints hoping there’s a coverage lapse. Mercedes in a bunch of situations. Erv in a bunch. The offense is about to open up. We have a soft schedule for a while so we won’t need Lazard to be a full time player till those last two weeks and into the playoffs. We’re good with the guys we’ve got.

I don't think you can take too much from this game. The beat a team they should have (unlike Sunday). SF was so hurt it was like playing against the JV team.
My guess is the team will be glad to have the win, and vs. SF is nice, but I think they know they have work to do. Getting Jones back was nice. Adams had a nice day. The MVS TDs weren't difficult, and he dropped a pass he had to catch.

That defense is still not looking very good IMO. I still hate the too-common soft or lackadaisical coverage. Seemed like they played a lot of depth players too, and there were times in the 2nd half especially that it had a preseason feel to it.

texaspackerbacker
11-06-2020, 05:17 AM
It was an entertaining game. There's a lot to be happy about with the Packers offense, easily pushing around what is still a very good defense. However, our defense still wasn't what it should be. The main thing to take from the game, same as last week in defeat, is that it really is all about Aaron Rodgers. We can probably outscore just about anybody if Rodgers is having even an average Rodgers game. But we're gonna get gashed a lot on both run and pass plays even by weaker teams - like the Niners were tonight, and as mediocre as our first string D is, the subs are way worse. I suspect poor D coaching has a lot to do with it.

You play who they put out on the field. They performed about the way one would expect they would considering the key injuries. That said there were still a bunch of people who though SF would make it a game...punch drunk Troy kept saying how impressed we would be with Mullen. lol The downside was all the injuries we had on defense again.

Target increases their minimum-wage to $15/hr and then immediately cuts their full time hours by 90%.

When it comes down to self-preservation, it’s better to work for $7.25/hr, 40 hours a week with crappy health insurance than for $15/hr, 20 hours a week without health insurance.

Yes, the Pack D, especially Josh Jackson, didn’t exactly dominate. But it was 34-3 at one point. The 69ers last 14 points were garbage time white noises, meaningful to only gamblers like Smuggler, Bretsky, Brandon and Harrell.

I’d be more worked up about the Pack’s run D.

I rewatched the game in 30 minutes, and Jackson had a terrible game. Got beat for a TD but the practice squad WR dropped the rock. Couldn’t cover any of the 69ers PS receivers. Had no clue how to destroy WR screens. Was flagged twice.

Tackling is Jackson’s best asset. Should be playing safety!

FYI: The Packers took Jackson over Jesus Warner. 12 said in his post game interview with MILF Erin Andrews that Warner has gotta be one of the top MLB in the league.

Josh Jackson is better than he was, but he's still not great. That he plays over Kadar Hollman doesn't say much about Hollman either. I think they go back to the draft well to find more CBs next year, or hope Stanford Samuels can develop. When King walks they will need 2 CBs (one to replace him, and another to replace the replacement when they get hurt so Jackson rarely starts).

Honestly I've seen him have good coverage and terrible coverage. Jackson is like MVS: he's not consistent and the probability of making a good play is not high.

FYI: The Packers took Jackson over Jesus Warner. 12 said in his post game interview with MILF Erin Andrews that Warner has gotta be one of the top MLB in the league.

... and then they took Oren Burks after Warner, in the same round.

But in fairness to the Packers, an awful lot of draft sites projected Jackson as a lower first round pick. At the time, getting him in the 2nd seemed like a good pick.

How many people foresaw Warner being that great coming out of college? I sure didn't. Jackson, on the other hand, looked by a star, maybe more NFL-ready then Jaire at the time of the draft. Yeah, Jackson has been a disappointment from the way he looked in college, but he's a fairly solid starter as #2 Corner IMO, and still may get better. And I say again, I, for one, like the way he has played better than King.

And yeah, I'd like to see more of Stanford Samuel. The kid is a real head hunter, a throwback. If he can rein that in just enough to avoid penalties, we may have a player. He too, though, looked more like a Safety than a Corner.

Jackson absolutely cannot cover and he’s a flag waiting to happen. More like #4 safety than #2 corner.

Flip burgers for the minimum wage, so don’t subscribe to PFF, but I bet Hollman has a better grade than Jackson.

I like Hollman better than Jackson. Jackson makes me wish Mr. Hyde was back playing corner for the Pack. And Hyde was an abomination.

Jackson had like one nice game against a bum Wisconsin QB, and everybody and their baby’s mamas fell in love with him.

“There’s a lot of interest in the draft. It’s great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don’t know anything about what they are talking about.”--Ted Thompson :)

Packers should be glad the game against 49ers wasn't pushed back to Sunday.

The Niners must have had some say in whether the game was pushed by - probably to Monday or Tuesday. Just imagine if the shoe was on the other foot. People in here would be raising holy hell with the Packers for letting something like that happen to them.

APB, my main memory of Jackson in college was the Ohio State game where he had a pick six on just about the first play, I think that was against J. T. Barrett. What I have seen with the Packers is that he is ok, no more, no less in coverage. The roughness flag against him last game was chicken shit. The interference I'm thinking of was also a pretty close call. I really don't recall seeing Kevin King playing better than Jackson.

As for your "career job" flipping burgers, I don't know how it is in your place, but my wife tells me that at the McDonalds where she works, raises and promotions are based on evaluations every six months. She has become an assistant manager and is making over 50% more per hour than the $8 she started at. If you haven't gotten your share, maybe you're flunking your evaluations hahahaha.
