Tony Pauline’s Josh Myers Scouting Report
Positives: Explosive blocker at the pivot who displays terrific strength in his game. Fires off the snap, turns defenders from the line, and keeps his feet moving. Gets movement run blocking, fires out to the second level, and seals linebackers from the action. Anchors in pass protection, gets a shoulder on defenders, and takes them from their angles of attack. Effective with the shotgun snap. Effectively quarterbacks the offensive line.

Featured | NFL Draft Prospects 2021: Pauline’s updated big board, player rankings

Negatives: Stiff and doesn’t play like a nimble or overly athletic blocker. Struggles to adjust.

Analysis: Myers was a terrific center for Ohio State and comes with growth potential. While he’s effective at the second level, I do not project him as a pure zone-blocking lineman. However, Myers could be a longtime starter in the NFL in the proper system.

1) I don’t like drafting OCs in the first 2 rounds unless they are elite prospects. This guy isn’t that.
2) I didn’t think he looked very good last year.
3) I didn’t think he fit our scheme—although I’ll defer to the FO on that.
4) If you were going to take an OC, I thought Humphrey was better.
5) You can find OCs later. Linsley was a 5th round pick.
6) I thought there were better players at other positions (Dyami Brown, Jabril Cox, Andre Cisco, Nixon) who fit our scheme.

I would have preferred Gute trade up and take an OT. Most of the guys who fit our scheme are now gone. Maybe he tried.

Tony Pauline’s Amari Rodgers Scouting Report
Positives: Slightly undersized receiver who also doubles as a return specialist. Quickly releases off the line, fires into routes, and stays low on exit. Displays terrific quickness in and out of breaks and positions himself to make the reception. Extends his hands to snatch the ball out of the air and lays out to make the difficult catch.

Reliable, possesses terrific eye/hand coordination, and nicely adjusts to the errant throw. Follows the quarterback across the field and finds the soft spot in the defense. Plays bigger than his size and fights to come away with the difficult grab in a crowd. Effective returning punts.

Negatives: Easily taken down in the open field by a single defender. Lack of height is a hindrance, especially trying to grab high throws. Plays to one speed and lacks a deep burst.

Analysis: Rodgers was a terrific receiver for Clemson both coming off the bench and as a starter. He comes with average physical dimensions but nicely projects as a slot wideout who can also return punts.

Mel Kiper Jr. from the story: “Great slot receiver and had a great Senior Bowl week. He has got a chance to be one of the first five, six, seven or eight picks in the second round, so when Day 2 kicks off, Amari Rodgers I think hears his name called very early.”

Rodgers, Lawrence could be teammates again
Former Clemson receiver Amari Rodgers 'Zoom'-ing up NFL draft charts
SCOTT KEEPFER | GREENVILLE NEWS | 8:00 am EDT April 28, 2021

Amari Rodgers says he’s done “30-plus Zoom interviews,” which pretty much covers the entire NFL.

On Friday, he’ll hear from only one, and that’s just fine with him.

“I’ve been real busy with the interviews – used Zoom more than I ever have in my life, getting to know teams and them getting to know you,” Rodgers said. “But it’s slowing down now, which I’m thankful for.”

Rodgers is expected to be drafted Friday, when the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft unfold at 7 p.m. A year ago, such an expectation would have seemed a longshot.

But Rodgers may have done more to improve his NFL draft stock than any player in the country during the past year, transforming his professional future into a sure thing.

Overshadowed by talented wide receivers his first three seasons at Clemson, Rodgers broke out in his senior campaign, emerging as the favorite target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence and leading the Tigers in receptions (77), receiving yards (1,020) and touchdown receptions (7).

He capped that effort by wowing scouts and other NFL personnel with an eye-opening week of practice at the Senior Bowl, then grabbing a team-high four catches, including one for a touchdown, in the game. Rodgers also flashed his versatility with an 11-yard punt return.

Plenty of draft analysts left impressed.

“Great slot receiver and had a great Senior Bowl week,” ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. said. “He has got a chance to be one of the first five, six, seven or eight picks in the second round, so when Day 2 kicks off, Amari Rodgers I think hears his name called very early.”

Daniel Jeremiah, an analyst for the NFL Network, also left the Senior Bowl favoring Rodgers.

“I loved his crisp route running,” Jeremiah said. “He has strong hands and a solid overall feel for the game. Rodgers reminds me of Randall Cobb. The Houston Texans wide receiver has had a long, successful run in the league, and Rodgers has similar potential.”

Damn. Bad enough we took a WR and traded up to do it, but we got one who combines smallness with slowness. Supposedly he's a kick returner, but I doubt he's fast enough for kick offs - punts maybe.

Anyway, 2 picks out of 3 that I liked.

I’m kind of OK with the OL. If there’s a position you can get a starter from day one, it’s a second round center. That should be a shoe in long term starter where he was drafted. So we have just enough to get through till Bakh is back.

The receiver has a lot of talent for a 3rd rounder. Smart, natural, quick. Should fit in well with Rodgers and the passing attack.

Our day 2, we have two really good bets to be solid players.

I guess I'll just have to try to think positive about this new Rodgers. Maybe he can become something like Cole Beasley.

Reading about Meyer and Creed Humphrey reminded me of when we drafted Tretter in the 4th and Linsley in the 6th. I preferred Linsley right from the start - bigger and stronger but maybe not as athletic as Tretter. Meyer appears to be the same compared to Humphrey.

Correct. With Adams, MVS, and Lazard, we don't need another 6 foot 3 burner who will basically run 9 routes. To open up the field for the guys we have, we need a capable slot receiver. Someone quick in space. This guy absolutely nailed it at the Senior Bowl and comes from a grade A college program. Great pick.

Hmm....end of the second round. IF the Packers had done that last year, would the fact that it was the end of the second been enough to mollify Rodgers? Do these guys sit around thinking about the parameters of what constitutes an insult? "Well, if they draft a QB in the third round or after, I guess it's okay because it means they're just taking a flyer. But if it's a second rounder I'll pretend I'm supportive but I'll get pissy when I see the GM. And if they trade up to draft a late first-rounder, I'm going to start thinking about how to get back at those bastards."

Maybe not in advance, mainly because I don't thing Rodgers saw them taking a QB anywhere near how high they did. But I think your model here is a really good framework for how he would have reacted.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah had a heart issue that came up late in the process and was a concern for most teams, which is why he fell out of the first round and to pick No. 52 with Cleveland, per sources. Doctors ultimately cleared Owusu-Koramoah but it did contribute to him falling.
