This is a really good read because of all the different perspectives that cover the lead up to the draft and Rodgers being picked.

Yes but ..... they overlook the two most important factors - IMO.

1. The knock on Rodgers coming out of college was that he was a system QB, mostly good because his coach, Tedford, ran a very QB friendly offense (mentioned slightly in the article).

2. The far and away greatest thing of all about our GOAT QB, his excellence in not throwing interceptions, was nowhere near as wonderful as it has been as a pro - 13 picks with 43 TD passes in his two years at Cal. That's good, but a lot of QBs are good. No one but no one is Aaron Rodgers good that way, though (a factor BTW, which should not worsen with age).

Beyond those two things, as the article says, Smith was supposed to be as good a passer, more mobile, and bigger than Rodgers, so the Niners chose him.
