I think top 3 and I agree with mngolf--gotta go OL or DL. But I'm a big supporter of going with best on the board, so while I'm hopeful for a lineman, I want the best possible player. There are sooooooooo many current or near future areas of deficiency on this team.

I think Joe Thomas is the top OL prospect this year; he would be hands down if not for the ACL. This team has so many holes; I wish TT would fill in the OL by signing a couple free agents and then look to best available at each pick. Wait, I said that last year.
PackerPro42
09-14-2006, 08:43 PM
I think we need a lot of stuff to make our team better and I don't think we should use a high pick on an OL or DL. I think if we have a top 5 pick we need to draft a skills position. Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson would be awesome choices for the Pack. I like partial's idea when he said Calvin Johnson. Our reciever position is really thin and I think that Robinson we be more of a return specialists.
BallHawk

I don't like drafting WR's in the top 5. If you look at the starting WR on every team, here is what it looks like
Derrick Mason-4th Round, 2nd pick
Lee Evans-1st Round, 13th pick
Chad Johnson-2nd Round, 5th pick
Dennis Northcutt-2nd Round, 1st Pick
Rod Smith- Undrafted
Andre Johnson- 1st Round, 3rd Pick
Marvin Harrison- 1st Round, 19th Pick
Matt Jones- 1st Round, 21st Pick
Eddie Kennison- 1st Round, 19th Pick
Chris Chambers- 2nd Round, 21st pick
Troy Brown- 8th Round, 2nd Pick
Laveraenus Coles- 3rd Round, 16th pick
Randy Moss- 1st Round, 21st pick
Hines Ward- 3rd Round, 92nd Pick
Kenan McCardell- 12 Round, 20th Pick
David Givens- 7th Round, 42nd Pick
Larry Fitzgerald- 1st round, 3rd Pick
Michael Jenkins- 1st Round, 29th Pick
Steve Smith- 3rd Round, 12th Pick
Muhsin Muhammad- 2nd Round, 13th Pick
Terrel Owens- 3rd Round, 28th Pick
Roy Williams- 1st Round, 7th Pick
Donald Driver- 7th Round, 7th Pick
Travis Taylor- 1st Round, 10th Pick
Joe Horn- 5th Round, 3rd Pick
Plaxico Burres- 1st Round, 8th Pick
Donte Stallworth- 1st Round, 13th Pick
Antonio Bryant- 2nd Round, 31st Pick
Darrel Jackson- 3rd Round 18th Pick
Torry Holt- 1st Round, 6th Pick
Joey Galloway- 1st Round, 8th pick
Santana Moss- 1st Round, 16th Pick
So if you look at those stats you have
------------------------------------------------------
7 players in the top 10
2 in the top 5.
Look at all those late rounders. They outweigh the top picks by a ton. I would much rather go with a safer pick. And not a running back, Because I could bring those stats up, too. But that would take too long. Drafting WR and RB high, unless they are once in a generation, is unneccesary.

Look at some of the reciever that we're picked in the top 10 though. Chad Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, Plaxico Buress, Torry Holt, and Andre Johnson. It looks like pretty much all the top recievers in the league we're drafted in the top10. I mean yeah, you have some guys that slip through to the later rounds but that is very rare.

Yeah if you exclude, Steve Smith, Randy Moss, Santana Moss, Marvin Harrison, Donald Driver, Joe Horn, Terrel Owens, Chris Chambers, and Derrick Mason. And those are top receivers, if we look at succesful receivers, they don't come from the top pick.
And Roy Williams a top receiver? C'mon, I can name 10 guys I'd rather have then him.
And if you read the post, you would of noticed Chad Johnson was drafted in the 2nd round.

What everybody forgets is Joe Thomas is an OT; we are void of standout playmakers in many places in this lineup. I'd doubt they take on OT since we have two capable starters there.

RB, OG, CB, DE, DT, WR
I would say those are the biggest needs with RB being the #1 need. Adrian Peterson would be the best pick but we'd need the #2 pick to get him.
no, no more pissing away picks on OG's. if our 3 rookies that we drafted to be our og's this year don't pan out, then go get a damn vet. quit pissing away draft picks on that spot
and i think we have enough talent at DT, unless a real freak comes along in the draft, like another ngata. even then i would stay away from a dt

With the 3rd position in the draft, the Packers need to pick Adrian Peterson of Oklahoma.
If you want to watch Peterson in action, Oklahoma is playing the Oregon Ducks on National TV(ABC) at 12:30 p.m. He is the complete package as a tailback.
I predict he gains over 150 yards against the Ducks. I am not implying the Ducks are that bad. I am stating that Peterson is that good a runner.

I wouldn't be too keen on drafting a RB high either, let's take a look at the starting RB's in the league.
Jamal Lewis- 1st round, 5th pick
Willis McGahee- 1st round, 23rd pick
Rudi Johnson- 4th round, 100th pick
Reuben Droughns- 3rd Round, 91st pick
Mike Bell- Undrafted
Domanick Davis- 4th round, 101st pick
Dominic Rhodes- Undrafted
Fred Taylor- 1st round, 9th pick
Larry Johnson- 1st round, 27th pick
Ronnie Brown- 1st round, 2nd pick
Corey Dillon- 2nd round, 43rd pick
Derrick Blaylock- 5th round, 150th pick
LaMont Jordan- 2nd round, 49th pick
Willie Parker- Undrafted
LaDainian Tomlinson- 1st round, 5th pick
Chris Brown- 3rd round, 93rd pick
Edgerrin James- 1st round, 4th pick
Warrick Dunn- 1st round, 12th pick
DeShaun Foster- 2nd Round, 34th Pick
Thomas Jones- 1st round, 7th pick
Julius Jones- 2nd Round, 43rd pick
Kevin Jones- 1st round, 30th pick
Ahman Green- 3rd round, 76th pick
Chester Taylor- 6th round, 207th pick
Deuce McAllister- 1st round, 23rd pick
Tiki Barber- 2nd round, 36th pick
Brian Westbrook- 3rd round, 91st pick
Frank Gore- 3rd Round, 65th pick
Shaun Alexander- 1st round, 19th pick
Steven Jackson- 1st round, 24th pick
Carnell Williams- 1st round, 5th pick
Clinton Portis- 2nd round, 51st pick
RBs in top ten: 7
RBs 11-32: 7
RBs 2nd round or lower- 18
You see, RBs are, as well as WRs, a position which is better to draft lower rather than higher.
RBs are a product of the system and the O-line. Sure, a RB needs skills, but if you have Jesus in Cleats running behind a bad O-line, what does that accomplish?
Ahman Green is not an elite RB, but in 2004 he had a great O-line, which he used to rack up 1,800 yards. This is why I think it would be much better to draft a OL with our draft pick next draft. Now, we still don't know where we will be drafting, but I think an OL would be the best choice.
By the way, doesn't AP look great against some actual competition today?
Excluding one big run for 14, which ended in a field goal, he's rushing.
12 attempts, 37 yards, 0 TDs.
PackerPro42
09-16-2006, 05:38 PM
I still diagree with you. You have all the stats on the WR and HB but do you have them on the OL. I would be interested to see how many great OL man came out from a high draft pick. Plus I believe that a team is better going after OL man in Free agency than the draft. An OL man won't come in and have the same immidiate impact that a WR or RB will because thaeir is a lot a OL has to learn.

O-lineman are from all over the draft. 1st round, 4th round, 7th round. The thing that tells you about an O-lineman, and what makes them a safer pick than a RB. Is that OL take care of their job and that's it. If you see an OL missing blocks and allowing sacks, you know he isn't good. But if you see a runnibgack break a 20 yard run, was it because of the RB's skills or the O-Lines blocking?

Exactly, I would rather pick an OL man in a later round than waste a high pick on one. Don't get me wrong, I think the OL is important too(just look at Favre last week) but I would rather get someone that can actually score for us.( we did get shut out last week.) That's all I'm saying.

Yea, but if you have no offensive line and a bunch of fantastic playmakers you still end up with little scoring. It all starts and ends with the line.
Both Minnesota and Green Bay found that out last year when their disaster lines ensured 2-5 starts. The Vikings rotated a bunch of guys in trying find something that was halfway decent. That's why they made it a priority this year. It's also why TT took so many lineman the last two years in the draft.

Keenan McCardell had 70 receptions, for 917 yards, and 9 TDs.
So how does that make Ladainian Tomlinson there passing game?
PackerPro42
09-16-2006, 08:00 PM
Yeah and Lt had 51 receptions as a running back. With 1400 yards rushing.
Antinio Gates was their top reciever though so a TE was their passing game along with LT. Without LT the passing game would have never worked because the defense has to keep him in mind too when they drop back in coverage. Without them keeping an eye on him they could work on blanketing those crapy recievers.

Hey Ballhawk, go to nfldraftcountdown.com and see who the pros scouts think the packers are going to pick. I'll give you a hint it starts with Adrian and ends with Peterson.

And all this when there is 15 games left to play. I'll bet you that there is a better chance AP injures himself in a game this season, than the Packers picking #3.

Hey their just pro draft scouts, don't ask me.

Top 10...we'll be 6th-8th. There are some really bad teams out there...Raiders, Titans, Browns. It won't be easy to get into the top 5...even with Kurt "Worthless Turd" Schottenheimer sabotaging our secondary.

NOTE: ESPN Insider FREE this weekend!!!
The list from Mel Kiper has it listed with just seniors, I believe. Adrian Peterson is nowhere to be found on this list.
Here's what I found while there:
1. Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame (6-3½, 225) | previous: 1
Poised, smart and at his best in pressure situations.
2. Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin (6-6½, 313) | previous: 3
Huge, quick and athletic with a long wingspan.
3. Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia (6-4, 254) | previous: 2
Mature, hard working and explosive off the edge.
4. Drew Stanton, QB, Michigan St. (6-3, 232) | previous: Even
Desire to win is unmatched. Stanton brings every intangible you want at the QB position.
5. Kenny Irons, RB, Auburn (5-10½, 199) | previous: 8
Deceptively strong with great vision and balance.
6. Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska (6-6, 298) | previous: 7
You just don't see many defensive ends carrying 300 pounds who can move as well as Carriker.
7. Jeff Samardzija, WR, Notre Dame (6-4½, 215) | previous: 9
Super hands and concentration with outstanding speed-to-size ratio.
8. Levi Brown, OT, Penn St. (6-4½, 325) | previous: 6
Steady and reliable at protecting the quarterback's blind side.
9. Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno St. (6-0½, 200) | previous: 11
He has the size and speed (4.33 40-yard dash) with outstanding coverage technique.
10.Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson (6-4½, 260) | previous: 5
Flashes dominating ability with his athleticism and quickness.
11. Ryan Harris, OT, Notre Dame (6-4½, 297) | previous: 17
Light on his feet with a defensive mentality. Harris neutralizes quick outside pass rushers.
12. LaRon Landry, DB, LSU (6-1½, 205) | previous: Even
Four-year starter who has proven to be Mr. Reliable throughout his career.
13. Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame (5-11½, 212) | previous: 20
Tom Zbikowski was one of the biggest movers on this week's board, going from 20th to 13th.
An aggressive ball hawk who brings a swagger to the Irish's defense. A true play-maker who also excels as a punt returner.
14. Brandon Meriweather, DB, Miami (6-0, 192) | previous: 16
Not physically imposing, but he's an active player whose productivity has been off the charts.
15. Buster Davis, LB, Florida State (5-10, 242) | previous: 23
Rock-solid player who is off to a phenomenal start. A shorter version of Ray Lewis.
16. Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn St. (6-1½, 235) | previous: 10
A productive and consistent player who studies and prepares as thoroughly as anybody.
17. LaMarr Woodley, DE, Michigan (6-1½, 269) | previous: 13
Combination DE/OLB with a hustling approach and disruptive capabilities.
18. Leon Hall, CB, Michigan (5-11, 193) | previous: 15
Tough customer who also shows very good anticipation and awareness in coverage.
19. Marcus Thomas, DT, Florida (6-2½, 288) | previous: unranked
Quick as a cat and very athletic interior lineman who is able to neutralize a double team.
20. Patrick Willis, LB, Mississippi (6-2, 235) | previous: 22
Tackling machine with great football sense and diagnostic ability.
21. Aaron Rouse, S, Virginia Tech (6-4, 218) | previous: 24
Incredible physical specimen with rare computer numbers.
22. Rufus Alexander, LB, Oklahoma (6-1, 231) | previous: 25
Very complete player who is able to get the job done in either the running or passing game.
23. Michael Griffin, DB, Texas (6-0, 208) | previous: 19
Rugged intimidator whose approach to the game reminds me of Ronnie Lott.
24. Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio St. (6-3, 297) | previous: 14
Run-stuffing dynamo who does a great job of clogging the interior.
25. Justin Blalock, OT, Texas (6-3½, 333) | previous: 21
Intelligent, very strong and very athletic.

Johnson is also a jr. Include the underclassmen and the bigboard will look entirely different.

Not me, Bush is the new type of RB's and I think Peterson will be an Eddie George type back instead of ED.

Bush will be the next George before Peterson. Peterson is way more elusive and Bush is more of a power runner. That's what George was.
