Hard to not want another position of need. But yeah our run Def has been below avg and we took a guy who’s a run def and TE cover from a good defensive school.

Prob had 3-4 guys we liked at 22 and 28 and figured this guy was gonna be gone.

TRAVIS JONES OR JERMAINE JOHNSON AT 28 ???

We're be building a dominant defense for sure

Packers alway zig when we think they should zag, but I am just dumbfounded with this pick. Not an exact need, or a position the Packer have ever put a lot of value on. Maybe Berry had a lot to say about what a defense needs to be good

Joemailman

Cowboys select Tyler Smith - OT - Tulsa. Ravens on the clock.

Smith is a big left tackle who plays with an edge and flashes the ability to bury defenders in the run game. He has the length, size and speed to develop into an effective blindside pass-blocker who can hold his own on an island in most matchups in the NFL. He has to get better with his hand placement in both the run game and in pass pro. He can be too aggressive at times -- he had 12 penalties last season. -- Steve Muench

Ravens select Tyler Linderbaum - C - Iowa. Titans on the clock.

Linderbaum is an undersized center with shorter arms, but he gets his hands inside and anchors well in pass pro. He's a highly effective zone blocker with the foot speed to reach front side defensive tackles and the range to cut off backside linebackers. He plays with an edge, blocks through the whistle and has good finishing power. -- Steve Muench

Jets select Jermaine Johnson - Edge - Florida St. Bucs are on the clock.

ohnson is a long pass-rusher with good first-step quickness and outstanding closing speed. His feet and hands -- and how he uses them in unison -- stand out on tape. He's a stout run defender who plays with good leverage and has the upper body strength to keep blockers off his frame. He averaged 61 snaps per game in 2021, and his effort late in the season when the Seminoles had virtually nothing to play for stood out on tape. -- Steve Muench

Jags select Devin Lloyd - LB - Utah. Packers are on the clock.

Lloyd locates the ball quickly, slips blocks and closes well in pursuit. He played safety in high school and moves like one in coverage. He has outstanding ball skills and his four interceptions tied for most by an FBS linebacker in 2021. He's an effective hand fighter with good burst and bend rushing the passer. -- Steve Muench

Packers select Devonte Wyatt - IDL - Georgia. Patriots are on the clock.

Wyatt is an explosive defensive tackle who quickly locates the ball and slips blocks rushing the passer and defending the run. He chases with good effort, has good range and always seems to be around the ball. Wyatt is not a massive space eater -- and he can give too much ground to double teams -- but he plays with good leverage and is stout in one-on-one situations. -- Steve Muench

Patriots select Cole Strange - G - Chattanooga.

Strange is a versatile offensive lineman who has strong tape, and he performed well the week of the Senior Bowl and tested fine at the combine. He is a relentless run-blocker with the quickness to generate initial pop on power runs and seal defenders on zone runs. He has outstanding upper-body strength and big hands to latch onto defenders in pass protection. He has the change of direction to mirror and recover when he gets caught out of position. -- Steve Muench

Chiefs select George Karlaftis - EDge - Purdue. Bengals are on the clock.

Karlaftis' first three steps are explosive. He converts that take-off burst into power, and he features a nasty bull rush. He's a threat as an interior pass-rusher. Karlaftis has shorter arms for an EDGE defender and gets stuck on blocks, but he has the strength to hold his own at the point of attack, and he makes plays in pursuit as a run defender. -- Steve Muench

Matt Miller's NFL comp: Trey Hendrickson

Bengals select Daxton Hill - S - Michigan. Vikings are on the clock.

Hill is quick to break on the ball and shows great range as a single-high safety. He has the fluid hips, long arms and burst to match up with slot receivers in man coverage. Hill is lean and doesn't always wrap up in space, but he's a willing run defender who takes sound pursuit angles and flashes good stopping power when he fills from the high point. -- Steve Muench

Cine is at his best playing center field in singe-high looks thanks to his excellent instincts, long arms and outstanding top-end speed. He's not as effective matching up in man coverage. I really like the picks. I'm high on Wyatt. Obviously, he dropped because of age. But DL age well, and they don't have to reup his contract. They've despeerately needed help for Clark for several years; so, you do what you can when you draft low. He can be a very special player.

Gotta say, I wanted them to try to put this D over the top. Aaron was on board with it too (on McAfee). He knew they were going to take Wyatt if he was available. In AR's opinion, Williams was the only blue chip, NFL ready receiver in the draft. He stressed you can get receivers anywhere: not just a talking point. My three favorite receivers are still on the board.

Anyways, we've got a lot of picks in a deep draft. This was a very good first day.

That's about as useless as a concrete parachute. Of course, the Packers researched Wyatt, Woods, and anybody they gave draftable grades to who had character concerns.

I think Jeremy Fowler of ESPN first reported that. They also brought in Sam Williams and George Pickens. Two other guys with character concerns.

Also sounded like per my Giants buddies, he didn't study the playbook and didn't know the plays, and he was above some of the discipline we need as an honorable teammate

Most I'd ponder would be a 5 or 6 for him. Probably would just pass. Doesn't sound like a guy Rodgers would trust anyways

Hard pass on Toney for me. In fact, I like the youth, so while I see the logic of giving up a second for Waller, the guy is almost 30 and wants to be paid, I think. So draft a young guy and make your Amish tight end Josiah do the work until Tonyan gets back.

I dunno about trading Love. Sounds good short term, but who's the backup QB? And now you have no plan for two years from now when Rodgers retires.

Who is the backup QB? Don't diss the legend that is Kurt Benkert.

I think well sit tight and draft BPA in the first. I see at least one big guy, probably Travis Jones. Then well move up in the second and draft the WR we target. And well draft one late too.

Going according to plan.

We should go sign Jack Coan and Carson Strong
Really think Coan is a backup who would be an outstanding fit in GB
Gotta prep some guys for when we dumplove
