Dunno squat ‘bout the college kids compared to some folks on this board.
Just hope we pick one or two guys specifically for special teams.

Sad to say, in the day leading up to the draft, I actually tried to research which players were good on special teams. Didn't get too far, but I did find a few:

ELITE
S Percy Butler

GOOD
S Dane Belton
S Tycen Anderson
S Yusuf Corker
LB D'Marco Jackson
LB Baylon Spector

SOLID
LB Quay Walker
LB Micah McFadden
S Scott Nelson

Since we didn't get Jelani Woods, screaming for some Charlie Kolar and Kevin Austin and maybe even Isaiah Weston late round

in the first round i'd like to see another WR and OL

we still need another OLB to add into the rotation, and also some safety depth would be nice today

HarveyWallbangers
04-30-2022, 11:21 AM
There aren’t a lot of EDGEs left, so I’m hoping for D Robinson with one pick. Kolar is a favorite of mine. Lots of intriguing CBs left.

Jaire
04-30-2022, 11:52 AM
Zamir White and Pierre Strong would be interesting picks: very different. I prefer White. MLF likes his backs and Dillon got injured in the Championship game.

I suspect another OL here. I'd be happy with that.

edit: there goes White (Raiders).... and now Strong (Pats)

They are cleaning the 4th round.

Pickens and Austin for the Steelers. Nice! Austin would have been interesting with Watson.

I think Ravens drafted three tight ends. No?

Jaire
04-30-2022, 12:47 PM
And the guy everyone's picking for GB. Zach Tom. Looks like I lost the contest. (edit: nope. still in the lead. I thought more took Zach Tom)

Really like that we grabbed two legit receiver prospects and two legit OL prospects. The biggest need along with DL.

I feel a lot better about this draft as a whole. Not a lot of reaching for guys we needed, and very quality prospects.

HarveyWallbangers
04-30-2022, 12:48 PM
Love the Zach Tom pick. Perfect fit for the Packers.

Goodbye Jake Hanson

probably. We took a center in the 2nd round and now the 4th round in back to back years. The odds are pretty good that we have a decent center.

Yep...mobile interior lineman who can likely play any of the 3 positions.

The guy played LT and OC in college, but is listed as OG. That’s always a good sign.

Defense, WRs, and OL solidified. Gute is killing this draft.

I don't know. High upside players but high bust potential too. We'll be lucky if two of the 5 pan out.

RashanGary

We had three picks between 22 and 34. Wouldn't it be nice if all three panned out. And then we took OL in the 3rd and 4th. We have good history of hitting on those guys. Maybe Gute is killing it. I hope so.

5. ZACH TOM, Wake Forest (6-4, 307, 4.95, 3-4): Logged two seasons at center, including 2019 as the starter, before moving to LT and making 23 starts in 2020-’21. “He is a spectacular athlete,” said one scout. “Excellent pass blocker and a good run blocker. He’s probably the best pure athlete of all the offensive linemen I saw this year. He could play left tackle. Only thing stopping him is arm length (33 1/2). This guy can play tackle, guard or center.” His hands (10 3/8) were the largest among centers. Wonderlic of 31. “Center is the first thing I thought of,” a second scout said. “Here’s an undersized guy playing left tackle. He’s super athletic. His intangibles aren’t great for center. Not a great worker.” His brother, Cameron, played center at Southern Mississippi and has banged around the periphery of the NFL for five years. From Prairieville, La.

Maybe TE Armani Rogers in the 7th round. QB in college. Switched to TE during the draft process, and looked way better than you’d expect. Great athlete. Tall and skinny now, but has the frame to get bigger. Could have a career arc similar to Logan Thomas.

He’s not slow. His biggest strength is his deep ball ability. His tape is littered with deep balls. His biggest weakness are his hands. I thought he and Danny Gray probably had the worst hands that I watched on film.

While Doubs isn’t as fast as MVS, he is more of the one dimensional deep threat than Watson. He’s more of the MVS replacement. Watson has the bend and explosiveness to be a good route runner

In the first round we took a safe DL.
We also took a high potential LB. Josh Jones at safety is a good comparison. Cant play football.
In the second round we took a WR who doesnt catch the ball very well.
In the third round we took a safe OL. Probably good.
In the fourth round we took a decent OL. Probably good.
After that its a bunch of flyers.

Bad draft.

I guess there was a glaring void - no Kingsley on the team. Now we got one. 4.87 40 for an edge rusher ain't bad, but he only had one sack last season. Competition for Garvin I guess and Tipa whatshisname.

RashanGary
04-30-2022, 02:47 PM
Having Rashan Gary pan out emboldened these dumb asses to take athletes who cant play football.

The only problem with this new strategy is that Gary did play good football. It just didnt show up in the stat line.

Now theyre taking athletes who dont play ball.

Josh Jones, Quay Walker. Same thing. Jmon Moore Christian Watson, same thing.

Worth a chance here. Based off tape, he should have gone higher. He was being talked about as 2nd-3rd Round Pick. Didn’t test well. That knocked him down. You never know. Big Z tested poorly.

I wished they kept their pick and took Robinson, but not a yuck for me. Good football player, but a marginal athlete.

He was productive. Lots of pressures, but only 10 1/2 sacks the last 2 years (20 games). Think Gary at Michigan.

https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/kingsley-enagbare/82409/draft-profile

Enagbare was one of the highest-graded pass-rushers in the country over the past two seasons, recording an 89.2 pass-rushing grade in 2020 and a 92.5 mark in 2021. While he's not the kind of athlete who hears his name called early, Enagbare has the violent hands to be productive in the NFL.

OK, you are great at defending Gute and not getting upset :). But tell me, was he one of the top 10 players you would have taken there ?

HarveyWallbangers
04-30-2022, 03:07 PM
Possibly. I had him graded as Round 4-5 player. I had Robinson higher. Going into that pick, I had Robinson, Enagbare, and Gunter as my highest ranked available EDGEs. Robinson was drafted, so he was my top rated available EDGE, and we need an EDGE. I’m not paying to close attention anymore, so I don’t know who’s available at other positions.

hahaha. not at edge for the whole draft. But this was probably the best pick here. Good edge still on the board at the bottom of fifth.

The little I saw, I was pretty impressed for a fifth rounder. Heavy hands: very high pressure rate..... I never got around to looking at these later guys, Enagbare included. Really, I was pretty impressed he was still on the board.

I think Enagbare at the end of R5 is fine. Surprised he didn't test better based on what little I saw of him. 6'4 almost 260lbs with 34" arms is Preston Smith sized.
He might even be a (very) poor man's Preston. His explosion numbers are 'great', and I know that's one thing they like for EDGE. Note: he's listed on RAS at DE, so maybe that impacts how he grades. Still a RAS of 6.26 is a little meh, but I think he's an upgrade over their current backups.

According to PFF he had at least 1 pressure in every single game the last two seasons... so he's probably competition for Garvin, pushes Tipa to the PS, and plays ST as a big body.

Dareke Young was somebody who wasn't projected to get drafted by any of the 6 big boards I use. He was consensus WR44. I had him higher than anybody and gave him a 7th round grade. He tested ridiculously, was used like Deebo in college, and actually looked draftable in the tape that I saw (moreso than Isaiah Weston). I figured he'd get drafted (ala Jeff Janis).

6'2" 224 with 4.44 40, 4.19 shuttle, 6.88 3 cone, 37" vert, 135" broad jump for a 9.93 RAS

I tend to agree. They are going to try to strengthen him and coach him up to see if he can be a backup / rotational guy, but that might take time. Really at this point picks are just UDFA worthy players that they give slightly bigger bonuses to.

Jack Coan and Carson Strong still out there. Coan is made to be a backup. Leader, no turnovers. Carson Strong has the talent to play in the NFL imo. Let's get one and trade LOVE .....haha.....J/K

OT Rasheed Walker. They had him in for a visit, so not surprising.

He was the consensus #10 OT and was projected to go as high as the 3rd round and no lower than the 6th round, so "good value" I guess. I did not like him much, and I had him lower than any of the 6 boards that I use (outside of the range of experts). :( He went even lower than I had him ranked.

Mel not much of a fun; was a much better player early on and then didn't do well as a senior.
'
Mel noted he looks the part but didn't play the part. Said it will be all up to coaching to develop this kid to be better

Looks like it will be a lot of UDFAs for safety and corner competition this year.

He usually takes guys we never heard of, but Walker was the opposite. Walker is the guy everybody wants Gute to take in the 7th round because he was ranked so high on "expert" boards.

McShay had Walker as the #13 OT. NFL.com had him #10 OT. He went #20.

Except for the fighting a teammate in the locker room part. Lots of talent, lots of immaturity.
If nobody drafts him (he's worth a late round flyer if you have a strong locker room IMO) he'll get a few UDFA offers.

Tariq Carpenter is probably a STs pick.

Guys that I didn't scout are starting to get drafted. :)

Agreed. He's the new Oren Burks. 6'3" 230 running a 4.52 is pretty impressive. Don't think he'll see many snaps on defense unless they play some weird packages. Wonder how McDuffie from last year fits.

Sounds like your board was closer to the GM's than the official draft pundits. NFL Draft Buzz said this about him:

We look at Walker as a probable fourth-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft who may be over-drafted due to his elite measurables and potential to develop.
So taking him in the 7th sounds like a real value. However if he has great measurables in a major conference and doesn't produce, that's a huge red flag. He might make the PS on unfounded hope for a year, but I suspect he will be forgotten this time next year.

Toure has a fair chance to stick for ST. Fast enough to be a decent gunner. Might develop beyond that, but even a ST player late in the 7th round is decent value.

I like the Toure pick for late day 3. Pretty good hands and routes. Played gunner on punt team. He's not physically gifted like Watson but he produced at FCS and Big 10 levels.

GB improved its WR talent considerably this weekend.
