Justin Fields goes on to a long, decent career, with frequent playoff appearances, a few pro-bowls, etc.; and

Caleb Williams takes the Bears nowhere?

I have to admit, I will chuckle a bit if (when) that happens!

I don't think what Fields does really matters. The best thing would be if Williams is mediocre and 1 of the QB's drafted after him turns out to be a HOF QB. Like when they passed on Mahomes to draft Trubisky.

As long as the second one happens, I'll be plenty amused.

You guys are playing checkers while Patler is playing chess. The bears have had so much shit at QB is it pathetic. That’s why Patler’s scenario is better in that it proves the organization is the bust not all these talented guys that have failed there. I’m surprised that none of them have pulled an Elway/Eli and said fuck no I won’t go. I wouldn’t if I was a top rated QB.

I think it'd be great is Justin Fields excels and make the HOF as a Steeler, and if Caleb Williams becomes the next Ryan Leaf

I don't know, passing on an unproven draft pick is one thing, but investing a draft pick, money and time in a quarterback, then basically giving him away in favor of the new draft pick heartthrob would be another whole level of incompetence, in my opinion, if Fields ends up a much better QB than Williams.

I kind of thought Williams might. Wouldn't it be hilarious if he becomes successful, then forces his way out of Chicago?

Maybe we can have all three.

1. Williams sucks
2. Fields is great for Steelers
3. Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye becomes Mahomes II

I don't knw about enjoying it, I guess I would. I've been predicting all along that the Bears will regret dumping Fields, and also that Williams is a fairly strong candidate to suck, making him a ....... Bear.

He has already shown his flare for dramatics so the potential is very much there. I just don’t think he is going to be good enough when he starts getting pounded. For the nailpainter to be considered successful would require beating the Packers and we can’t be having that.

The 1 plus I will give the Bears is that they didn't trade up and give up a ton of picks to get Williams.

I still think he will probably be another USC QB bust.

Why not think big? Go one step further - da Bears build their new fancy stadium, drum up publicity (and prices) and in their inaugural season . . . da Bears still suck!

If Fields is good elsewhere, it means that their scouting and drafting are not a problem, just the coaching. If he fails elsewhere, then the scouting and drafting are a problem, and the can't tell how bad the coaching is. So it's worse for the Bears if Feilds isn't good elsewhere as well. Even if it would be more humiliating if he did well elsewhere.

Their talent evaluation is terrible if Fields turns out to be a good QB. It's one thing to miss on a draft pick. It's a another to miss on a player you have every day in practice and game days.

I don't think they're wrong about Fields. Don't think he can read defenses well enough to be consistent. He'll always have some good games because he's a great athlete.

Just concerning Fields, I don't care what actually happens, but if he becomes anything more than a mediocre starter or a journeyman, I will be quite surprised.

As Patler said, I really want Caleb to be a bust. I'd just be tickled.

Fields being good and Caleb flopping would be great.

Packers getting 15 more years of HOF QB play while the Bears flounder would be even better

Both would be hilarious!!

it would be perfect

but i fear the bears have already ruined fields growth too much for him to become anything now

Nail Polish had two FG drives last night, one primarily on the back of a 42 yard pass to Swift, which presumably was a screen that broke loose.

More importantly for the Bears, they tallied 8 sacks against the Bills.

Bears fans back at it, talking shit on X. At least they’re not going on and on about his aura like they did with h1m. That was intolerable.

Have you ever watched Fields play QB? He is without a doubt not one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the NFL. His processing and pocket feel are just bad.

The question wasn't what I thought of Fields. It was what would be sweetest to see happen because it's the Bears.

Caleb Williams is a very good player. He and Love will likely have a lot of duels in the next decade.

Personally, I enjoy beating the other team when they are good. Beating the Bears in the NFC championship game was better by itself than the 30 years of beating down God awful Bears teams that should’ve been relegated to the NCAA.

Yeah, but how about our futility against the 49ers over the last 14 seasons? That doesn't feel so great.

The futility has been in the playoffs. Packers have won 4 of the last 5 vs 49ers in the regular season.

If love starts for 15 years and makes the HOF, there will be an 80 year stretch from 1955-2035 where the packers had 60 years of HOF QB play in 80 years. A good chunk of the remaining 20 would be Dickey and a year and two half years of majik.

This certainly hasn’t played out in any finalized sense. But even that it’s trending in this direction has Bears X melting down
