Wonder if K. King will make a mark. He might get cut if he doesn’t show up for both the corner spot and ST.

I was at practice on Wed and Cooper was out there, but not doing anything. Don't think Hopper was either. King has been doing pretty well. With starters out, he should play a lot today, probably both outside and in slot. My guess is King, Rochell and Ballentine are battling for 2 spots.
Fritz
08-18-2024, 03:38 PM
I've heard that Rochelle has played well, too. Ballentine was really solid as a replacement. It may come down to special teams play AND which one the team feels would most likely be picked up by another team if he's cut - which would be King, I would think. That might give him an edge.
I'm curious if at the safety spot Bullard will play maybe a quarter then hand it off to Olidapo and Anthony Johnson, since those two may be duking it out for one spot.

Good thing roughing is an automatic first down, the yardage wasn't enough.
so i take it that the flower has already anointed AJ dillon RB 1-a-2 again like he did the last 2 years
can't wait to see him forget that josh jacobs is on the team with dillon plays a whole half getting 1.3 yards per rush
unfucking real

Hard to feel relief about that. If those players want to ever see the field, they have to be able to handle other team's top players.
so if there was really a battle for the #2 QB spot, shouldn't have pratt gotten the first go at it tonight?

I had to watch on NFL Network and listen to the piece of shit Bronco commentators. In general, the game stunk. It in fact was NOT our scrubs against their scrubs. They had most of the first string in O and D for several series. Nix is projected to be their #1 QB and Stidham #2. Both of our back ups looked better than Stidham. Be negative if you want about Clifford, but he moved the ball against most of their first string D. His passing was decent and I like his mobility.
No Dillon at all. I haven't heard that he's hurt. I hope this doesn't mean they just decided to award him a roster spot. but probably it does. They should have at least let him play and made him earn it.

We had 88 yards of total offense when Clifford was in and 30 of it was on penalties.
Clifford was a hot mess and almost threw a pick 6 except for some great hustle by the OL.

Since I've read that Pratt was hardly better, I have to ask, not having watched, was it the offensive line that gave neither QB any time?
I also read that Ty'ron Hopper was picked on, over and over. I hope he learns from this - and we learn, too, that draft and training camp hype doesn't mean much. He's a rookie, a third-round pick. It's gonna take time, if he can get there at all.
I read also that Joseph received the Packers' only FG try, and he missed badly.
Warm Carlsen better be ready for that last preseason game.

Hopper was in on 11 tackles, good hustle if nothing else, and I didn't notice any missed tackles.
bobblehead
08-19-2024, 10:02 AM
Dillard probably won the swing tackle gig unless they decide to let Morgan have it and stop focusing on him as a guard. Evan Williams wasn't horrible. Its just hard to evaluate a full slate of backups against starters. Trying to find the guys that consistently held their own is really tough because 9 guys aren't. Hopper hits hard, but can't cover his grandma with a wool blanket. Our DE/Edge group is really deep, but I felt Enagbare outplayed Van Ness. I think they have concluded Rhyan is a backup, thus the extended look at Center and letting Monk play Rhyan's "spot" tells me he is in at least some consideration to start at RG this year.
Not much else to take from this. I stand firm that the kicker that ends this season as our guy isn't on the roster. I think that about 43 of the 53 final roster spots are decided already. The only spots undecided are backup QB, maybe 9th OL, K for sure. But honestly I think we know the bulk of this roster already and it likely made it harder to get street FAs to come in. I hope they keep Dillon over Tyler Davis and make him play teams and H back. A bit more after I read up later today, but this game told us very little.

Announcing a week ahead of time that starters would not play did not seem to produce the desired results, either in the scrimmage or the game. This kind of feels like a wasted week.

Packers PFF grades: Best, worst players from preseason loss to Broncos
Top 5 offense
1. OT Luke Tenuta: 69.6
2. WR Malik Heath: 69.3
3. WR Samori Toure: 64.5
4. OT Caleb Jones: 64.2
5. OT Travis Glover: 64.0
Tenuta didn’t allow a pressure over nine pass-blocking snaps at right guard and ended up as the offense’s highest-graded run blocker. Heath caught three of his six targets for 22 yards on 18 routes run. Toure caught two passes on two targets for 17 yards. Jones didn’t allow a pressure over nine pass-blocking snaps at right tackle. Glover allowed two pressures over 26 pass-blocking snaps and 48 total snaps at right tackle.
Top 5 defense
1. S Benny Sapp III: 85.5
2. LB Kristian Welch: 75.1
3. DL Colby Wooden: 72.8
4. DL Jonathan Ford: 72.6
5. DE Arron Mosby: 71.4
Sapp delivered a run stop and a pass breakup over 14 snaps. Welch had three stops vs. the run, allowed only one catch in coverage and caught an interception. Wooden had two hurries as a pass-rusher and two runs stops. Ford didn’t record a hurry or stop but looked explosive over 34 snaps at nose tackle. Mosby had a hurry creating an interception and drew a penalty.
Bottom 5 offense
1. TE Tyler Davis: 33.9
2. QB Sean Clifford: 35.5
3. WR Grant DuBose: 38.4
4. TE Joel Wilson: 48.7
5. QB Michael Pratt: 53.2
Davis had a nightmare night as a run -blocker. We counted five missed or failed blocks on 10 run-blocking snaps. Clifford fumbled a snap, threw an interception and managed only six completions across four drives. DuBose was credited with two drops, although one was a tough throw behind him on fourth down. Wilson caught just one pass for four yards on 19 routes run. Pratt lost a fumble and averaged only 3.3 yards per attempt. His average depth of target was 5.3 yards.
Bottom 5 defense
1. CB LJ Davis: 28.8
2. LB Ralen Goforth: 32.9
3. DL Zach Morton: 47.0
4. CB Kalen King: 47.2
5. LB Christian Young: 51.0
Davis gave up a catch for 22 yards. Goforth missed a tackle on a touchdown run and was penalized 15 yards. Morton had the sack-safety, but he also missed a tackle and earned a poor run defense grade. King missed two tackles, including one resulting in a first down on 3rd-and-17, and allowed three catches on three targets for 40 yards and a touchdown. Young allowed a touchdown pass while trying to undercut a block attempt on the Broncos’ final score.
Special teams
Grant DuBose had a tackle covering a punt. Greg Joseph missed the only kick attempt, a 47-yard field goal. Daniel Whelan averaged 54.8 yards per punt and 43.3 net, with two punts inside the 20-yard line. His hangtime average was 4.99 seconds.
Quarterback play
Michael Pratt: 53.2
Sean Clifford: 35.5
Both Pratt and Clifford had a turnover, and they combined to average 3.7 yards per attempt and 5.9 yards per completion. Neither Pratt nor Clifford completed a pass thrown over 10 yards in the air (0-for-5). Rough night for the backup quarterback competition.
Stat to know
Brenton Cox Jr. led all players with five pressures, including a sack, while rookie linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper had a team-high four defensive stops, including three against the run.
