All cuts must be made by 3:00 PM Tuesday August 27.

Could be some cuts being revealed on Monday though. Or sooner.

I would guess the guys they know they will cut will be released this afternoon to give them a shot with another team.

I would guess the guys they know they will cut will be released this afternoon to give them a shot with another team.

That might happen with some veterans. But players with less than 4 accrued seasons must clear waivers before they become free agents. I believe that process doesn't start until the deadline on Tuesday.

i wanna say that cuts usually start to trickle out before the actual cut day

probably could here about some moves today

or at least some IR moves today

Joemailman
08-25-2024, 10:11 AM
I believe anyone put on IR today would be out for the season. On the final cutdown day, Tuesday, before final cuts are made, teams can designate 2 players to IR with right to return after 4 weeks.

WHO are the 5th and 6th WR that makes the team ?

We gotta try trading some of these guys. Any team have two kickers about the same, both way better than our scrap heap ?

Heath kinda looks like he's earned a spot.

Cut both kickers! Where's George Blanda when you need him??

It's so weird to think that if Warm Carlson had knocked that 32 yarder through, he'd very likely have the job locked up, at least for awhile. But now he might be cut before he gets to the regular season.

Very difficult to trade at cutdown, because teams know you have to release them.

I wouldn’t expect any cut leakage until tomorrow. I would assume Gute and friends will be spending most of the day today making the final decisions…and looking for video on any kicker that could become available.

What do you mean 'nothing significant'? The Colts cut a kicker who made both his chances in their final preseason game.

I am wondering if Olidapo will be cut. He was injured, and since he's been back he seems to have been strictly an in-the-box safety, and his "grade" in the last preseason game was awful. Do they really need a strictly box safety at this point?

No, but I'd be shocked if they didn't keep him. He missed all the offseason workouts and much of training camp because he broke a toe at the Combine. Not too surprising he struggled in live action. I would expect him to make the 53 and be inactive on game day for a while.

I missed that. Was just looking for names I recognized. Spencer Shrader is his name. Notre Dame bio says he was 3-3 from 29 and in, and he made 4 of 50+. But he was only 15-22 overall, so he must have had some inconsistencies from 30-49.

Saw action in all 13 games as the Notre Dame kicker … Connected on 15 field goals, and finished 61-for-62 on extra points … Finished second on the team with 106 points scored … Was 3-for-3 on field goals 29 yards and in, hit four kicks of 50 or more, including setting a program record with a 54-yard kick at NC State … Matched the program record for field goals of longer than 50 yards in a career in just one season

Yeah, I thought Welch had a good shot. Likely means they go with 5 ILBs and Zayne Anderson makes it based on special teams. He was playing first string on 3 ST units in TC, so they like him there.

Clifford and Pratt getting cut is not a shock after the Willis trade. (That trade surprised me though - weird fit and figured he'd be available after cuts)
Odds are one of them (if not both) will be available to sign back onto the PS.

Otherwise, none of those cuts are surprising so far.

A few position groups are pretty much done already: QB - Love, Willis; RB - Jacobs, Wilson, Dillon (haven't seen any word on Henry Pearson, but I suspect he goes to the PS), ILB - they got their 5.

I think Dubose doesn't make the cut. I'd like to see him make it back on the PS though.

Would not shock me if they wait until last minute to cut Joseph and sign a K off waivers. Joseph is the backup plan here.

Surprised that Zayne Anderson was kept over Anthony Johnson Jr. Heavier on the DL/DE numbers over the DB/CB which also surprised me. No trade or pickup of a different kicker unfortunately either. Let the countdown to the 6th and that to happen begin.

Fritz
08-27-2024, 03:49 PM
Yeah, goodbye to Anthony Johnson Jr. But I'm telling you, it might just be that Zayne Anderson, in addition to playing safety and special teams, can also kick. Both Bobble and JoeM had him listed in their final roster predictions as on the team, and listed him with the specialists. They may have some inside information we mere mortals are not privy to.

I'm a little surprised that They went so heavy on D-line. I'm surprised both Cox and Mosby made it. I thought either Rochell or King would stick as the last CB, but with all those D-linemen and O-linemen for that matter, there was no room. It also explains why Kesean Nixon got time at both slot and outside corner, and why Bullard got time playing the slot.

It also looks like the careers of both AJ Dillon and Tyler Davis are over, at least for this year, and at least in Green Bay.

Only surprise to me, a little, is King.

I was hoping Newman was gone. ... This is the best roster overall I can remember since the Reggie White era, barring injuries of course. My only question is really the O-line. Monk looks like a very solid future guard/center, and there's quite a few that can improve a couple other spots this or next year. Interested to see how that group improves this year.

A weird roster construction, especially the six defensive ends. I'd love to know what the thinking is there - are they trying to protect Mosby or Cox until teams settle in, then cut one of them and try to re-sign him to the PS?

They also must think Kalen King won't get snapped up by anyone and they can re-sign him to the PS. And why not? He was a seventh round pick. Same with Dubose.

26 players were claimed, 3 were Packers... that's a lot for them. Usually maybe 1 gets claimed. Hopefully that speaks to the talent of the roster.

3 guys claimed is a lot. For teams to use a 53 roster spot on someone else’s fringe player…. That says a lot because they have guys who are already up to speed in the offense or defense. They have to think the guy they’re claiming is better than a back end roster piece. They have to think borderline starter.

There's no rush, though. I'm pretty sure they can keep him with little impact right up until the first game.

Might as well see what they have in the new guy first.

3 guys claimed is a lot. For teams to use a 53 roster spot on someone else’s fringe player…. That says a lot because they have guys who are already up to speed in the offense or defense. They have to think the guy they’re claiming is better than a back end roster piece. They have to think borderline starter.

Agree it says a lot about what other teams think about GB's roster talent. I'm reading that the last GB player claimed off waivers from 53-man cutdowns was Taysom Hill. Usually the odds of a team poaching one of your cuts or a player from your PS is very very low.
Everybody has camp darlings and players who went thru cap they know better than someone they scouted, plus they know the playbook so it's safer to keep your own.

Greg Joseph has been cut. Narveson will be the kicker.

5 of 6 on FG's, hit all his XP in preseason. One of the FG was like a 59 yarder or something. He's got a strong enough leg, it's just a matter of accuracy and mental makeup.
