Yeah the penalties have been a problem. Walker and Jenkins had trouble today with penalties. Last year they were really bad to start the year and got better, I think that will be the case again.

As for Wilson with outside runs, I'm not surprised. Running between the tackles at Simmons and 360 pound Te'Vondre Sweat isn't going to work, but making them go laterally might. It's what they used to do against Pat and Kevin Williams (Vikings DTs) back in the day.
Shanahan tree at its origins does a lot of outside zone anyway.

re: Reed and hits, he does take some tough shots. He's a tough guy, but I wonder if he's going to be worth his payday when it comes from an availability standpoint.
I have a feeling that in Years 5 and 6 of his career the injuries are going to accumulate and outstrip the big payday he'll have earned from his earlier work.

As it is, I think giving him a gimmick play run here and there is fine and more likely with Willis at QB, but I also think they can give some of those to Melton.

Given his recent injury history, I can understand why he doesn't want to use his shoulder. He's not a great tackler. Just have to live with that. He had a pick 6 and held Calvin Ridley to 1 catch for 9 yards. That's what he's being paid to do.

Jacobs forced two missed tackles, caught his only target and gained 28 yards after first contact, highlighting the tough yards inside he gained against the Titans front. Wilson forced three missed tackles, had a 10-yard run, gained three first downs, caught a 35-yard touchdown pass on a screen and was excellent in pass pro. Watson caught both of his targets for 67 yards, including a 30-yard contested catch on third down. Willis completed 13 of 18 passes from clean pockets and 8 of 12 passes thrown beyond the line of scrimmage while also rushing for 73 yards and forcing four missed tackles. Tom had a declined procedural penalty but also didn’t allow a pressure over 26 pass-blocking snaps and was the team’s highest-graded run blocker.

Walker had a sack and a stop on fourth down, but he got dinged severely for his work in coverage. Wilson gave up a pair of catches for 33 yards. Clark didn’t have a pressure and continues to be inconsistent against the run. Bullard allowed two catches for 27 yards. Slaton had a hurry but also a poor run defense grade over 15 snaps.

Special teams

Evan Williams, Xavier McKinney, Eric Wilson, Zayne Anderson and Robert Rochell had tackles on special teams, and Javon Bullard and Tucker Kraft assisted on tackles. Lukas Van Ness and Arron Mosby had penalties. Matt Orzech missed a tackle. Brayden Narveson made all six of his kicks, including three field goals. Daniel Whelan had a 63-yard punt, but his net average of 36.0 yards was a season low. He had two touchbacks, two punts returned and zero punts inside the 20.

Quarterback play

Malik Willis: 75.6

Willis had a big-time throw — his 30-yarder to Christian Watson on the first drive — and zero turnover worthy plays. He averaged 11.2 yards per attempt and had an adjusted completion percentage of 83.4 from clean pockets. Even without play-action, Willis was 9 of 11 passing for 112 yards. He took three sacks but also scrambled three times. When kept clean, he got rid of the ball in 2.07 seconds on average. Willis was 3 of 6 for 85 yards on passes over 10 yards in the air.

Stat to know
Titans quarterback Will Levis was under pressure on 15 of his 44 dropbacks. When under pressure, Levis completed only four passes for 21 yards and took eight sacks. The Packers finished with 20 total pressures.

Not sure I totally agree with PFFs grades, nor do I understand how Levis was under pressure 15 of 44 dropbacks and yet the Packers had 20 total pressures (unless they count multiple pressures per dropback). Either way, I think his pressure number was actually higher.

I also think Tucker Kraft blocked really well, and Jenkins had some bad penalties but blocked better than PFF says. Quay wasn't a trainwreck either. How does giving up 2 catches for 27 yards make you a bottom 5 player? How is Eric Stokes not in this list, he played ok overall but there was that one drive where Nuke Hopkins was getting the better of him pretty consistently.

You read part of that wrong. They're saying it was Bullard who gave up 2 for 27, not Quay. I thought McDuffie had a bad day in coverage, but maybe they thought it was Quay. Stokes gave up the TD to Hopkins in the 3rd quarter, but other than that drive, I thought he was pretty solid.

I worry about his neck and his head taking a huge blow. I’d rather he miss a tackle than tackle with the back of his head.
