View Full Version : Time to fire Stenavich?

Bottom line is that this offense did not improve year over year, and in fact regressed in some ways despite getting what they did from Jacobs. Just look at the other side of the field Sunday. The Eagles had a similar thing happen in 2023. They cleaned house. New OC, new DC, get Barkley…look at the impact.
At this point, Stenavich has to go. He has certainly made contributions to this team and I’m not saying he is a bad OC. However, this team needs some fresh eyes and could use a new approach no different than where the Packers were on defense last year. Look at the improvement Hafley has brought to fruition.
Lafleur needs to take a hard look in the mirror and recognize that rolling forward with the same coaching staff would be insanity. There are 2 coordinators that need to go. Bitch Sac likely won’t be a tough one to let go, but getting a new OC seems like something Lafleur will not do, yet I feel that he has to if he truly wants to take this team to a championship level.

He's a pretty good OL coach. Seems like he is just in too high of a position for him. Peter principle.

He is damn good ball coach. Try again. He doesn't call the plays, he is really in charge of the run game coordination, you have a problem with the way the Packers ran the football this year?

He’s OC, not OL position coach.
He’s responsible for developing players overall and ensuring the offensive team is ready to go as much as Lafleur. He failed miserably in that account. We knew we weren’t going to have Morgan for weeks. Jenkins went down, and complete and utter shit show. That’s entirely on Stenavich. Entirely.
Jacobs was why the team ran well. Blocking was mediocre much of the year, and Jacobs just found ways to get yards. Attributing that to Stenavich is ridiculous. In fact, the whole tush push with Kraft being instituted by Kraft is just an example of why Stenavich comes up short. Kudos to him for listening to his players, but he is paid to come up with that shit on his own, and I don’t think he can. He provides no strong offensive strategy skills to be a sounding board for Lafleur and it showed.

It's LaFluers offense, and LaFuer is the play caller. The Packers had an incredible run this year on the offensive line staying healthy outside of Morgan going down. They had to rely on two rookies with a lack of experience against the best combination of defensive tackles in the league. I would have expected them to struggle. The play caller didn't exactly help them out.
Claiming the run game was all Jacobs shows your lack of knowledge, they 2496 rushing yards for a 4.8 average. Wilson and Brooks actually had a higher average than Jacobs.
But you know keep pulling straws to prove your ridiculous statement.

Yup. It's hard to know what the dynamics are in establishing the overall design and philosophy of the offense, game plans week to week, etc.; but I think it is clear who makes the decisions and who are "advisors."
What LaFleur has to ask himself is if Stenovich and others are offering the suggestions, insight, criticisms, warnings, etc. that he needs. Being surrounded by "yes men" is not helpful. Being a good on-the-practice-field coach is not enough.

He also brought in Saleh and Getsy 2nd half of the year. Too many advisors?

Everyone contributes, otherwise why the fuck would you even have an OC?
Exactly how did the OL improve this year? Again, Jenkins goes out and it looks like the coaching staff has no clue what plan B was. Yanking the replacement after 5 min doesn’t instill confidence in the OC.

The Bears requested an interview with Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich for their head coaching job, per source.
It’s the first interview for Stenavich, a former NFL offensive lineman who has been an asset to Matt LaFleur.

Comparing Philly and GB is dumb. What other teams had similar results with a change? Are folks suggesting we have the same talent level as Philly and just underachieved? Did Philly underachieve last year or overachieve this year?
My take is Philly underachieved last year and reverted to the mean. They were in the SB two years ago and then landed a few studs in the draft like Carter. They landed a stud RB that was slept on. We shoulda signed him instead.
Howie Roseman is a better GM than Goot but that doesn't mean Goot is bad.

Their defense went from poor to the top in the league. That is more than 'reverting to the mean'.

Why is it dumb? I’m not referring to talent on the field. I’m clearly referring to the coaching staff. Philly underperformed in 2023. That was coaching. They addressed it. The Packers underperformed in 2024. Yes, we have talent gaps as well, but I’m not focusing on that. Who is responsible to IMPROVE and DEVELOP the offensive players? That is on Stenavich. With all the young guys, you’d think at least a couple guys would take a step forward. The only guy who really did was Kraft, and even that was muted to some extent.
If you expect Stenavich to magically start improving players now, you are kidding yourself.

The Packers have hired head coaches that call their own offensive plays since Mike Holmgren. The offensive coordinators have been important but they do not have control over the offense, especially play calling. The offensive line wasn't great but again the _Packers rushed for almost 2500 yards this year, hard to find a fault with Stenavich and LaFluer when it comes to rushing production. You just want to attribute all to Jacobs because that fits your ridiculous narrative.
The plan was Morgan, he was hurt all year. unfortunate time to go with a back up guard against maybe the best combination of defensive tackles in the NFL. Most starters struggle with those two. find another straw.

How did they underperform? They won more games in 2024 than they did in 2023. They received the same playoff seed. They didn't advance in the Playoffs but that is outcome based versus process based. I understand your are upset the Packers no longer are playing and you struggle to deal with the fact a better team beat them.
you want to talk about Lafluer decision making in game, or the fact that he has struggled against better opponents, and that his players make bone headed decisions on the field, great. I have a lot of questions about whether Lafluer can get this team over the hump and lead the Packers to a Super Bowl.

The fact you refuse to acknowledge that Stenavich is responsible for improving offensive talent is all I need to validate my point.
I’m not discussing talent gap. I’m not discussing game plans or strategy. This is about improving the players on the roster, and why on a young team we did not see any real improvement year over year.

I don't really think a coordinator is. That's the line manager or coaches job. Coordinator is the director, his job is making sure the line coaches are doing their job and that the system in general is running smoothly and executing on their plan.

The OC, especially if they aren’t doing the game plan and strategy, should be heavy in player development. I get that he isn’t the one working with individual players daily, but the buck stops with him on that. If there was no improvement, anywhere, on offense…that is a poor reflection on Stenavich. It isn’t just one bad position coach. The entire system of player development needs to be evaluated.

Well, there was improvement
Point of order: Does anyone have a quote from any interview suggesting The offensive coaches were happy or unhappy with the backup linemen. It's entirely possible Steny and others said to the GM "we can't win with these guys" and Gute, said 'sorry, that's all we got'

What improvement?
I don’t care about beating up on sorry AFC South teams or a Miami team that can’t play in cold weather.
When it counted, against top NFC competition, what improvement was there? Who played better than last year on offense besides Kraft?

I'm uncertain about Stenavich, but Ryan Mahaffey, the receivers coach, needs to go. He moved up from offensive line assistant last year, and every wide receiver regressed this year.
