Imagine if we had the 2nd game on Sunday at home. GB is low single or minus and wind chill like 20 below.
Yeah, according to forecast it would be about 2 above at game time and dropping fast. Actually warmer in Green Bay than much of the state. Here in Wausau expected to be about 6 below at game time heading for 17 below.
Joemailman
01-17-2025, 07:12 PM
Weather forecasts for 3 outdoor games:
Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs (Saturday 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff)
Temperatures: Falling through the low 20s
Winds: 10-15 mph out of the NNW; Gusts to 25 mph
Wind chills: 9-12 degrees
While snow won’t be an issue, you’ll want to wear multiple layers to battle with the winds and cold temperatures. This will feel several dozen degrees warmer than last year’s amputation-necessitating playoff game in Kansas City this time last year.
Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles (Sunday 3 p.m. ET kickoff)
Temperatures: Hovering near freezing
Winds: 10-15 mph out of the NNW; Gusts to 25 mph
Wind chills: Low to mid-20s
Out of all the divisional games this weekend, this one will have the most impact from the weather. Winter Storm Demi will be moving through the Eastern Seaboard with snow. Multiple inches of snow could fall during the game and more than three inches are expected overall during the storm’s duration. Visibility and field traction could become issues if bands of snow strike during the game.
Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills (Sunday 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff)
Temperatures: Mid to upper teens
Winds: Light and variable, but generally out of the north or northwest
Wind chills: 8-12 degrees
If you’re flipping from Sunday's first playoff game (in Philly) to this next one, you might be disappointed by this second game’s weather. Some flurries will be possible, but this snow should be lighter and drier than in Philadelphia. If you’re going to the game, grab several layers and some mittens for the cold.

I don't think that was it. The strength of schedule and strength of victory of the Lions, Vikings and Packers was in the upper half. I just think the three teams weren't playing their best ball at the end of the season. The Lions were decimated by injuries on defense. The Packers were struggling offensively. Darnold played terribly his last couple of games. They all lost playoff games to teams (Commanders, Eagles and Rams) that were playing very well down the stretch.

Agree, I think the shine had come off Minnesota a bit, and they seemed hungover from the Week 18 loss to DET. GB was similarly trending the wrong way, fading from 9-3 to 11-6.
DET was so beat up on defense the only way they were going to win in the playoffs was via shootout, which they are very capable of doing IF they don't turn the ball over. Today Goff played like early Goff and looked rattled and was bad under pressure. I also think DET got too cutesy with trick plays and the Williams INT cost them.
The easy-schedule thing isn't entirely wrong, the NFCN played the AFCS which was not a great division, and the NFCW was kind of a mess - ARI was an average team, SEA had a bad OL, and injuries decimated SF.
I don't think any boost the schedule provided to their record was THAT a big deal though - PHI & WAS could fatten up on a bad NYG and iffy DAL team twice, plus they played an ugly NFCS division.
When the playoffs come around it's about matchups, health, and momentum. You can often throw the regular records out, especially when a team has a hot start and cools off.

Stupid ass APB didn’t consider the “Katrina” factor at play. Rams could get sympathetic treatment like New Orleans did back in 2008. NFL let them cheapshot Favre to the point they had to make “new” rules about it the following season.
Yea Fozzy I would see the Rams win. They are playing good and eagles are not impressive.

I think Hurts was rusty from not playing, and Hafley had a decent game plan.
I think PHI's OL will be able to handle LAR's DL better than MIN.
Rams offense will be hard to stop, but PHI's secondary is very good. McVay > Sirianni as a coach, so I think it's a close game. LAR played a little undisciplined at times vs. MIN, I think because they smelled blood in the water, and that might hurt them against PHI... Eagles are just a very solid team and the 2 seed for a reason.

Trying to limit how much Schadenfreude I enjoy so as not to tempt or upset the football gods, but I am feeling a bit smug about both the MIN and DET losses.
DET's loss is as bad as GB's in 2011, both were 15 win teams. Feels like it adds to DET's history of futility/being cursed.

The older I get, the more I think playoff success is about playing your best ball at the right time. That and health. That's why last year seemed so promising - Green Bay was playing well at the end of the year, while this year, you could see the offense coughing and sputtering the last few weeks. And yes, the Lions could only overcome so many injuries - it was decimating - and Goff, if you can pressure him, will throw some INT's.
MLF and Love, I still say, carry the bulk of the blame along with the wide receivers, who couldn't even hold on to their balls the last few games.

Love only ran the ball 25 times in 2024, versus 50 in 2023. Rodgers in his prime ran about 60 times a year. Love needs to be more of a threat to run so opposing defenses can't just tee off on the pass rush.

Wow. If he doesn’t fumble - gotta imagine ravens go down and score. Now bills just need a fg to go back up 8. Time to run the ball and the clock.

Still just a big play from being tied mofo. Good game at least.

Interesting decision on the FG. TD feels like a KO vs a possible tie. And if you don’t get it - ravens only have 1 timeout and 3’min to go 99 yards. Idk.
I suppose play not to lose?

The second down play call was the screw up there. IMO they had to take the points.

With Washington's win, every single other NFC team has been to the NFC title game more recently than the Dallas Cowboys.
Update here... NFC title game appearances since the Cowboys last made it:
8: 49ers, Eagles, Packers
4: Falcons, Panthers, Rams, Vikings
3: Buccaneers, Giants, Saints, Seahawks
2: Bears, Cardinals
1: Commanders, Lions

I don't think Lamar should be dinged for losing. Mark Andrews had a game that will haunt him and fans for years.
I felt like even if BAL converts the 2pt that Josh Allen was going to get them in FG range. They had 1:33 and 2 timeouts and seemed to have their rhythm back in their offense after a 3Q lull.
Really good game between two very good teams. I'll be rooting for BUF from here.

Agreed man Allen was definitely gonna get that field goal with that look on his face.
I don’t think the NFL is gonna let them beat the Chiefs.

Bills gotta know Mahomes will draw a couple roughing penalties. Make it count and put him out of the game.

Me too. When I was young, and Notre Dame was on TV every week and hardly any other games, I was a Notre Dame fan - Hanratty, Seymour, etc. But it all ended abruptly when Notre Dame hired that all world piece of shit, Dan Devine. Every since then, I just can't bring myself to root for Notre Dame.

Glad OSU won; they spent 22 million in NIL in the offseason. Football is going to be so money driven going forward. It's kinda sad. The great recruiters are devalued because if the players don't play immediately, they just leave. Crazy money in FB

You ain’t dig NIL and the transfer portal?
I thought you would be jolly. I mean, under the old system, your beloved Badgers couldn’t recruit QBs worth a duck. Nowadays, if a Joe Burrow is stuck on Ohio State’s depth chart, Wisconsin can pony up frogskins for the Burrow’s service.
It’s about time them young uns get paid to play. Futbol, unlike wimpy soccer, is a violent sport with omnipresent health risks. Compensation and free transfer are fair game.

There's actually a tape of that? hahahaha - you oughta post a link so people would believe it.
There have been a helluva lot of Badger QBs playing in the NFL in recent decades - not exactly stars, but good enough to hang around.
I actually don't hate the portal shit or even the damn NIL simply for pragmatic reasons - meaning it seems to be a positive thing for the Badgers, football and basketball both, not to mention the women's sports where the Badgers tend to be among the very best in the country.
As for the players getting paid, yes but ...... Most of those getting NIL money are on the road to being NFL millionaires anyway. Those who aren't good enough - but still risking their necks and all other body parts - don't get much NIL anyway. Just making it straight out play for pay for everybody with a salary structure a little better for the better players might be a better way.

One semester worth of Russ Wilson ain’t denote QB whisperer, hombre. Alvarez couldn’t recruit QBs and neither do the fish who came after him.

Just hit him clean. Beat the crap out of him. Keep him in the game. Serve him up what he isn’t used to.

There is no hitting him clean when he is protected. Defensive player gets within 2 feet of him and they get flagged.

Yup, gotta be just a split second better.
Gotta beat the best to be the best.
