ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The San Francisco 49ers now have two first-round picks in this month's NFL draft.
The Niners acquired the 22nd overall selection in the draft from the Denver Broncos on Wednesday for picks in the second round and third round.
The Broncos will receive the 37th and 68th overall picks in the deal.
The Niners own the sixth overall pick in the draft as well as No. 22 in the first round.
The New York Jets are the only other team with two first-round picks in the April 29 draft.
The Broncos now own seven picks in the first four rounds. They have the 15th overall selection after moving up from 29th in a deal with Atlanta.
Denver had acquired the 22nd overall pick from Washington in a trade last April.
There goes the best possibility for trading the #5 pick, I guess I'm now a full member of the AJ Hawk Bandwagon
just read that myself....and wow. so the broncos now have a high 2nd and 3rd round pick along with what they already had in their rounds. wouldn't be surprised to see denver making more moves even though they lost the #22 pick.

Or the niners. How many 1st round contracts can one crappy team handle?
ESPN radio (dan patrick show) is saying they believe, and chris mortensen, believes the broncos/49ers trade happened so the Broncos would have 2 2nd round picks that supposedly Ted Thompson asked for, for Javon Walker.

Do you think Lelie would still be involved if we got a 2nd?

Two second round picks for Walker? I'll believe that when it happens. Maybe for one second round pick. I'd be happy with just that.
You have to wonder if San Fran is angling to get to #1 to draft Reggie Bush.

From ESPN:
Most NFL teams use a Trade Value Chart to make sure they're getting enough in return -- or not overpaying -- when trading draft picks. The chart assigns a point value to every pick in the seven-round draft.
So how does this trade between the 49ers and Broncos check out on the chart? The No. 22 pick that Denver sent to San Francisco is worth 780 points, while the two picks going from the 49ers to the Broncos No. 37 (530) and the No. 68 (250) are worth a total of 780. So according to the chart the trade is a wash.
supposedly according to Mort, is Ted Thompson told Denver he wants a 2nd rounder and a conditional 2nd rounder, and Denver, evidently doesn't have a 2nd round next year, which is why they would give 2 2nd round picks this year....i agree harvey, i'll believe it when it happens...but damn...if denver offers that, i don't think twice, i say thank you, trade done.

And if you take the values of the two second rounders for Walker, #37 (530) and #61 (292) the total of 822 falls between the values of#20 (850) and #21 (800), I would be very pleased with that under the circumstances. Those should be some quality players this year.

Two 2nd round picks in this draft could be like having an extra first. Do this deal in a second if it involves two #2s for Javon. Good riddance. Let's build on the bones of his memory.

This all sounds to good to be true. Almost like winner the Lotto.
I will take two 2nd rounders for Walker. With four picks in the first two rounds we can fill many holes.

I still think Lelie will be involved though.

TT's actually got to want Lelie more than the extra pick for him to be involved.

TT probably does want Lelie, who else they going to get?

I would take Leslie and a 2nd round pick for Walker! With out hesitation. Everyone keeps saying that Leslie is only a deep threat. So what! We have Driver, Gardner and Boerigter (maybe Fergie) for that underneath sh*t, Leslie as a deep threat would be fine by me.

I doubt very much that we'd get Lelie and a 2nd round pick or two 2nd round picks for Walker.

Donald Lee became a deep threat last year.

Maybe they could trade Walker for Lelie & a 4th rounder, ( so they can get Faine ), and give Denver the #5 pick for Denvers 1st, a 2nd, & a 3rd. Something is up with Denver, they want to deal.

See, I don't think they would have made the trade if they were going for walker. If that was the case, why not just trade the 21st pick since the value is the exact same?
The only solution that I can comprehend is that TT thinks he'll get above the typical draft value this year because its so deep and would get two players who would in the end out perform their values when added together.
Plus, that is two holes they could fill.
Still, I am skeptical. This seems fishy. My guess is one second for walker, if that high.

I'll stoke the old rumor mill furnace.
PFT is saying the Broncs extra 2nd goes for a "wide reciever" presumed to be Walker. They are also saying that the extra 3rd could go to the Lions for Joey Harrington.
To further muddy the water, Harrington announced to the Lions he wants to be traded to the Fins.
This could be a wild draft with stuff happening this early.

With the rate of speed TT moves on things I'd still be totally surprised if Javon Walker is traded in the next two weeks.

i'D LOVE TO SEE HIM TRADED FOR DENVER'S highest second rounder.
MJZiggy

He might surprise you. He tends not to let it get out when he's working on something and then suddenly it's done. Unless it involves high-profile corners, of course.

I think the odds are in favor of having Walker traded.

I think Walker will be traded too. And, the one thing that gives me hope for good things for GB is the fact that several teams are somewhat interested. I don't remember Denver making dumb trades in the past, so if they were the only team after JW, I would be afraid they would play TT like a fiddle. With Philly and maybe SF in it too, it should keep Denver honest.

They are all trying to lowball TT
When healthy J Walk is probably worth a mid to low 1st and 3rd or 4th
Should be interesting to see what offers he gets for a top WR with a torn ACL

That may be our only saving grace, and if you want JW traded be cheering that the three hyped WR's go early so there is nothing left for Denver by their 2nd round pick.

Lelie is all right, but he can't run a route to save his life. He can run simple post patterns and flag routes, but who can't? He is a tall target that can get down field. Just expect a lot of Cory Bradford like plays.
I would still take Lelie, and a first day pick, just to be done with Walker. Simply put it is bad for business.
It has been rumored that Lelie wants out of Denver and to compete for a #1 position somewhere. With the Walker situation and if the Pack trade for Lelie and a 1st day pick, is Lelie better than Driver?
Lelie matched Rod Smith for TDs in '04 (7) and had a better yrd/catch (20.1 vs 14.5) and gave up only 60 yrs on -15 catches! In '05, Lelie only had 1 TD (vs Smith's 6) and 42 rec for 18.3 avg (vs Smith's 85 and 13.0). He's been up with Rod Smith since '02 - if he comes to GB with Driver - who's better and why?
Lelie's stats...
Year Rec Yards Y/R TD
2002 35 525 15 2
2003 37 628 17 2
2004 54 1084 20.1 7
2005 42 770 18.3 1
TOTAL 3007 17.9
Driver's stats...
Year Rec Yards Y/R TD
1999 3 31 10.3 1
2000 21 322 15.3 1
2001 13 167 12.8 1
2002 70 1064 15.2 9
2003 52 621 11.9 2
2004 84 1208 14.4 9
2005 86 1221 14.2 5
TOTAL 4634 14.1
Driver has had better stats than Rod Smith in TDs and just slightly with Avg and Rec. I think Lelie has more upside given his faster start (vs Driver) playing with a worse QB (Favre makes his recievers better!).

I think Driver runs much better and more disciplined routes and is a solid step up a WR. Lelie seems to run loose routes and is better with the deep ball. He's also hurt/banged up often. They wouldn't make a bad combo though. Lelie is definitely a huge upgrade from the Fraud.

B,
the fraud is called the fraud because he has so freaking much upside and doesn't cash in on it, come on now.
I don't think Lelie is that good. Granted i've never watched him that carefully, but Denver certainly gets by with Rod Smith being solid as a rock and consistent for the millionth year in a row and pounding the ball

I don't think Lelie is that good either, but he's a solid step up from Robert Fraud Ferguson. If Lelie stays healthy he could be a decent WR in a three receiver rotation of Driver, Gardner, and Lelie. Heck, he's far better than anything out there in free agency. Personally I'd rather have a higher pick, and in all honestly I don't know if TT would have that much interest in Lelie, who makes a good comarison with Bradford with more talent.

I figured you did so I clarified; either that or I figured you were going nutso in regard for Ferguson.... who I have a long dismay for not only because he is an underachieving puke, but because GB passed over my favorite Badger in what should have been the easiest no brainer pick Green Bay has ever made. And they blew it.
