Make a play for him?
KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Seahawks cut special teams captain Isaiah Kacyvenski on Saturday to add depth at running back while league MVP Shaun Alexander rehabs his broken foot.
Seattle needed a running back behind fill-in starter Maurice Morris for its game at fellow unbeaten Chicago on Sunday night. So the Seahawks added practice-squad member Marquis Weeks, who impressed them in their exhibition finale, to their 53-man roster.
That meant someone had to go. It was the popular Kacyvenski, who was earning $600,000 this season after agreeing to restructure his contract in the spring. The seven-year veteran started 14 games for Seattle in 2004 at middle linebacker. But last season, rookie second-round draft choice Lofa Tatupu took Kacyvenski's job in training camp. Tatupu went on the Pro Bowl.
