To all those that have been to GB....

As many of you know, there is a new section on PR called "On the Town". Each week I will be doing a review of a local establishment. The first one was about Marty's Boston Crab.

Anyhow, I would like some input on things that you liked when you came to GB as I am going to focus the column not only from a locals perspective, but also towards visitors coming to GB for the first time or for those who aren't very familiar with it.

Do you have a favorite place you come to when you visit here? Did you get to take a drive up to Door County and found a spot that think others would like? Did you drive to Appleton for some great shopping? For a first time visitor, what kind of area information would you like to know about? Best place to tailgate....etc.

Your comments will help me get this section going! Thanks everyone :mrgreen:

I usually stick by the stadium and its bars, but one time I went to a local hole in the wall. It was fun. I'd like to learn more about them. Places that I can go to and good a good price on beer, shoot a little darts/pool, maybe play some golden tee.

I like going up to Door County. Hit a local park off the lakeshore. I've been to some museums and other things, but mostly I want to know what are the cool spots for the locals (bars, restaurants, etc.).

I went to a wedding reception at the Oneida Country Club. It seemed like a nice enough place, course I was pretty wasted.

maybe I need to start a tour service of showing visitors players houses and bar hangouts? Heck, if people out in Las Vegas actually pay to go on a tour to see Wayne Newtons house, anything is possible !!!

I'd like some suggestions for off the radar but decent hotels. The kind that you can't find on Expedia, and might actually still have rooms available on home dates one week after the schedule has been released.

Was in Green Bay only once in my life and loved it.. Wish I had more time there!

My dad & I got lucky enough to attend our first Packer game at Lambeau(him for turning 70, me for lucky# 40 in 1997). Got into town Saturday morning (flew in from NY and boy were our arms tired!) Got to meet Nitschke & Brian Noble in our hotel Sat afternoon, have sigs from both, then went driving around..

Finally found Shenanigans and met Fuzzy Thurston, got his sig too!

Don't think his place was all that great, but very cool to be in.. 'specially when we couldn't close to Favre's Steakhouse, which I understand is over rated for the price you have to pay..

I would love to go back to Green Bay again, and hopefully I'll be able to swing it again.

Are there any campgrounds nearby? State, county, etcetera... available for tent camping? I made a day trip to GB once and had a blast. Didn’t get to see much of the town/area other than the Pro Shop and the Field (and the inside of a few Bars). The Pack lost that day but that was expected...we stunk (Dilweg). Lost to the damn Bears of all teams (1990).

If someone wanted to do a "Lombardi Era" tour, what kinds of places would they go? I know Vincent went to church there and there were some old hangouts and places owned by the old players, but haven't a clue as to where they are.

Zig, that is something that I wouldn't know. It was way before my time! Other than his old office downtown, there really aren't any old landmark type of places that I know of.

BUT, I can give a tour on where Brett goes to church, takes his kid to school, where he lives, what he drives...errr.. that's about it :wink:

Any other suggestions on what you would like to see on the "On the Town" section of PR? I'm going to start work on that webpage this week.

Mad.... how long are you going to sit on that hotel list?? Is it good or not? Oh and thanks for "stickying" this thread btw :wink:

A few summers ago, I made a day trip to GB on a random weekday to watch practice and see the newly renovated Lambeau Field.

I missed the morning practice, and the afternoon practice turned out to be special teams only, so there wasn't much to see. At one point, I was maybe five feet from Robert Ferguson on the other side of the fence, and thought about yelling to him, "Hey Fergie, should I pick you on my fantasy team this year?" I didn't do it though, because 1) it would be pretty dorky, and 2) I already knew the answer was "no".

Went through the Pro Shop, and checked out the atrium, but didn't get to the Packer HOF. IIRC, it hadn't been opened on site yet at that time.

Highlight of my trip was a stop at Big Lots in that shopping center right next to Lambeau field, where I picked up the ugliest vase I have ever seen. I swear it looked like an enormous 3rd grade art project. Got it as a wedding gift for a good friend who was married a few weeks later. :mrgreen:

A few years ago I was hanging out in the main stadium lot pregame, watching the players drive in. The usual Escalades, Navigators, occasional sports cars were well represented. Then Brett pulled in, driving a pretty basic (but new) pickup truck. He, his dad Irv, and somebody else (brother or brother in law?) were all riding three across the front seat -- double shotgun.

That was a fun indicator that despite the big contracts Favre remains a pretty down to earth, good ole country boy.

what kind of gathering? I mean lots of places have rooms and stuff for stuff like family reunions, private parties, etc.
