I want the Colts to win, but I expect the Pats to win.

Pats 24
Colts 14

I don't care who wins. I would love to see Manning and Dungy get to the big game while it would be great to see Brady go for number 4. If I had to bet I'd take the Colts, 31-21 but I thought the Saints would win by 3-7points today.

manning breaks his right arm on the 1st play. Colts somehow wins over pats and then cruises over the bears in two weeks w/o manning

im with NE. sure, they shudnt have beat SD :( but their consistent play at the elite level, especially during playoffs, has earned my respect. and i like brady over manning. brady has got it done without an elite WR for years

I am just sick of the patriots and hope they loose and slide into a downward spiral for the next 10 years. I hope indy wins by a field goal and all the talk will be " I guess it really was Viniteri to thank for all those SB wins after all!"

I cheer for anyone playing New England. I don't like them at all. I can't stand their coach, I can't stand some of their players. It's not just cause they're good, cause I respect them for that. I just do NOT like their attitudes. Worst organization for years, and now that they've been insane the past 7 years, it's like everyone should kiss their feet. screw them. If they make it, I'll be one HUGE Bears fan for the super bowl.

Hope the Colts can make it in.

The Pats- Bears was the least palatable pairing for me in the Super Bowl.

I don't care for the Pats either, but I can't debase myself to root for the Bears, either.

It's not like he doesn't have talent on his team, either.

BallHawk
01-21-2007, 07:27 PM
GB, if we're excluding Tampa Bay and talking about his success in Indy, here's what it looks like.

Regular Season: 60-20

Postseason: 5-4, with this one to be decided.

Including Tampa he is 114-62 regular season and 7-8 postseason.

Almost every team I have been rooting for has lost so far in this postseason. I don't want either New England or Chicago, so this Super Bowl might have little interest for me. It's more fun when you have a rooting interest. I don't want New England to win again, and I'm not a big fan of Chicago--although living in the Twin Cities, I don't have any Bears fans to contend with. I don't know a single Bears fan--other than the online trolls.

Manning threw a bonehead pass to Harrison that was returned for a TD by Asante Samuel.

9:25 NE TD Asante Samuel intercepted Peyton Manning for 39 yards (Stephen Gostkowski made PAT) 21 - 3

Brady is 8 for 12 for 91 yards, 0 TDs, 0 picks. He's been solid, but this has been a game that they haven't needed him to do much. Their first scoring drive, he completed one pass (and it was a screen pass). Their third TD was an interception return for a TD. He did complete a clutch 4th and 6 on their second scoring drive. The Pats actually fumbled the ball at the 3 on their opening drive on 3rd down, but recovered in the endzone for a TD. Manning is pretty shaky, as usual, in the playoffs.

'lo all. Just joining in now - been watching the game since about halfway through the second quarter.

Wanted to ask if others noticed something. Twice now I've seen Manning knocked down, and him getting up himself while an Olineman walked away. Think they're letting him dust himself off after his comments earlier this year?

I think it's a dumb rule. If the defender is close enough to the receiver that he can face guard, and not actually touch him, I say good play by the defense. That and the pro defender pushed receiver out of bounds calls are two of my least favorite. If a defender is close enough to push the receiver out of bounds, that's a great play. Plus, changing it would take the guess work out of the official's hands.

I don't think a defender should be able to "get close enough" to the receiver, specially if he got smoked by a move to just put up his arms, or push a receiver out of bounds.. You get beat, you you have to make a great recovery to defend against the ball.. actually have to see it and not try and block the receivers view... JMO

I thought Dungy's speach was great. He commented on how proud he was to African American and to be were he was, but then changed the emphasis to the Colts going to the Super Bowl.

Saw that loser pile of shit shannon sharp speaking he ebonics ranting and raving and all it was about that finally they are getting respect because of this. That loser is why they would get less respect, Dungy really impressed me tonight.

It's like I've been saying for a long, long time. Brady is a very, very good QB. But he's NOT the only star on that team. The Pats lost today the way they usually win: as a team. My point was just this: Brady wasn't the difference, one way or the other. And that's usually the case.

Brady? Wasn't it 34? Sure helps to have a great defense (TD) and special teams (great field position all day). Kind of interesting, but the Pats didn't have a drive longer than 34 yards in their last 9 possessions. Three of those were scoring drives of 21 yards, 33 yards, and 34 yards.

I get a kick out of the many in here who dog Brady when he doesn't win it all. Makes you look quite funny imo. I never thought they would go as far as they did. The Pats will be better if the cheap owner decides to spend some money. They need a burner at the WR position, all they have is possession WR's at the moment.

I'm not kicking Brady. I still think he's as good of a QB as there is in the league right now. I'm just calling it like it is. Brady is 12-2 in the playoffs. That's great. At one point, Favre was 9-4. Things can change in a hurry. Brady has now been poor in 2 of his last 4 playoff games and average in a 3rd game. For all we know, the Patriots dynasty could be over. Brady can't win by himself. Just like Favre couldn't. Bill B. could get bored and retire or move on (like Holmgren and Wolf). Things could change in a hurry. If he didn't win, it wouldn't take away from what he has done so far. He'll like always be good enough to win with. It's a matter of surrounding him with a great team. Brett hasn't been surrounded by a great team. He hasn't had a championship caliber team in nearly 10 years.

It is a team game but the Philly 4th and 26 season and the season after the Bronco's SB were both SB teams. Holmgren thought that the 98 team was loaded, the Rice fumble and the Owens catch?? That was the year the Atlanta Falcons went to the SB.

b bulldog
01-21-2007, 10:01 PM
nO, THEY DON'T THROW THE BAD THROWS AS OFTEN. I'm sure all the QB's in the NFL would love to throw to the weapons Manning has but that is a CRAZY road to go down. They more than likely would have been 6-10 or so but what does thaT GET YOU IN THE END.

That was the year the Atlanta Falcons went to the SB.The team that lost in Philly (4th and 26) had serious problems on the defensive side of the ball and a QB who was mentally (death of his father) and physically (broken thumb) drained; had they beaten the Eagles, they probably wouldn't have gotten past Carolina. I agree with your assessment of the '98 team: they had a chance, but chance let them down.

b bulldog
01-21-2007, 10:07 PM
What let them down was not winning enough games to have that game at home, just like tonight's game.

HarveyWallbangers
01-21-2007, 10:07 PM
The '98 team? You can't be serious. That team was past it's prime. It went 10-6--mostly on a weak schedule. The Vikings were 15-1, and destroyed the Pack twice that year. Falcons were 14-2. Either team would have destroyed the Packers in the playoffs--had we not been screwed by the refs on the Rice fumble against San Fran. Ain't Favre's fault that he got the Pack the lead in the final minutes at San Francisco--only to be let down by the refs in that game. Remember that "should've been" game winning drive Brett engineered?

That 2003 team wasn't championship caliber team either. We got the Vikes choke job just to get into the playoffs. We beat a 9-7 Seattle at home, and almost beat an ordinary Philly team in the playoffs. Big deal! I'm not sure we would have won at Carolina the next week. We definitely would have been destroyed by New England in the Super bowl. That would be like saying the Eagles or Seahawks were championship caliber this year. You blame Favre for the loss against Philadelphia. The blame spreads around. Favre had one turnover that game. It happeneded to be after 4th and goal, 4th and 1, and 4th and 26.

b bulldog
01-21-2007, 10:10 PM
Harv, I get a real kick out of your know it all assertions but Holgren even said it himself about the 98 team and the Philly debacle was a game they should have won and they would have had a great shot at Carolina. Talking last minute drives, what about the pic to end the Philly game in ot

The '98 team lost to San Fran in the playoffs. The '97 team lost to Denver. Technically, the Super Bowl was in 1998, but most football teams would count that as the '97 team. Of course, the Packers '97 team was a Super Bowl team. They made the Super Bowl. Looking back, it's debatable whether they had the better team. Denver proved themselves the next year. The '97 team was getting old on defense. They really wore down late. Howard was gone. The only reason they would have been better was because Favre was so much better than Elway at that point. That makes two years that Favre was surrounded by a team that was even remotely championship caliber.

I thought it was a bad call. Then again, I saw the Patriots get away with mugging Chargers receivers last week, and didn't say anything about it. One was a key third down play and Vrabel got away with a couple of muggings. They are overly physical with opposing receivers, and they seldom got called for holding or interference. The bottom line: the Chargers had a great chance to overcome that call. The Patriots had a great chance to overcome the call tonight.

Like Manning said afterwards, he couldn't watch the final minute, knowing that Brady had a minute and two timeouts left. Instead, he said a prayer. "I don't know if you should do something like that, but I did," Manning said of his bowed head whispers to the heavens at the end.

When they kept showing him with his head down I wondered if he could even bring himself to watch the last minute. And also wondered if he was saying a quick prayer....lol I know I would have been.
