It also could be interested in making a trade for a veteran player. The Broncos have been in talks with Green Bay about receiver Javon Walker and with Detroit about quarterback Joey Harrington. If either player is traded - and Denver has plenty of competition for both - it likely will happen this week.

To get Walker, Denver likely would have to offer a second-round pick or perhaps package receiver Ashley Lelie and a midround pick. The Lions likely would require a low-round pick for Harrington.

Receiving offers

If Lelie is traded, it likely will be this week. The Broncos are trying to accommodate his request. San Francisco vice president of player personnel Scott McCloughan told local reporters Friday that Broncos officials called him last week about Lelie, but as of now the price is too high. It's believed the Broncos are looking for a first-day pick in exchange.

If Lelie isn't traded, don't expect him to stay away from the team as a holdout. It would be career suicide for him to miss training camp if he is property of the Broncos. Lelie, who wants to be a No. 1 receiver, has one year left on his deal. He will likely leave at the end of the season if he isn't traded.

No matter what happens, don't expect Lelie to be at the team's offseason workout program in the final 12 weeks. But expect him to be with the team when the season starts.

From Dan Pompei:

The Packers aren't shopping WR Javon Walker, but that doesn't mean he won't be traded on draft day. They almost certainly would accept a first-round pick if a team offered one--and a club such as the Broncos or the Eagles could. If Walker were in this draft, he'd be the top receiver. There are two issues affecting his value: He is in the last year of his contract and would have to agree to an extension, and he is coming off a serious knee injury. Trading Walker would leave the Packers without much firepower at receiver and without many options to replace him this late in the game.

They won't get a first round pick for him, but if a team offered a second round pick, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Denver has 2 2nd round picks, #37 overall (from San Francisco) and #61. I would hope TT would insist on #37. If not, perhaps Denver will give us #61 and the 3rd round pick they got from San Francisco.

And don't forget they need to throw Lelie in there somewhere. He's no JWalk, but we need someone out there to fight for #1 and catch the ball.

Nah, take the 37th. Trade both of our picks down 5-10 spots to gain extra third and take an ILB and Davin Joseph.

With 3 3rd round picks then could land Brandon Williams(5th receiver, special teams), Greg Eslinger(starting center zone block specialist), and take someone like Daniel Manning or something. They would fill a ton of holes that way. I would LOVE if they got that trade and built the D and OL with it.

Partial,

No offense, but I think you are living in fantasy land with those trades. Let me show you.

Our pick, #36, is worth 540 points.

The 46th pick is worth 450 points.

That leaves 90 points to be made up for.

The LAST pick in round three is worth 116 points. There is no way that we are going to be able to trade down twice in round 2 and find 2 (much less one) team to give up their third round pick.

However, I would like to see the Packers trade down in round 2 and pick-up an extra 4th and 6th. This would be more likely. Then, pick up G Davin Joseph.

But, you have to wonder who is going to slip into the first part of round 2. There may be a guy with first round talent that falls in our laps. It is so hard to predict!

The Denver Broncos' head janitor apparently found an old Shannon Sharpe jockstrap when they were replacing lockers in the main lockerroom. The Broncos have offered said jockstrap in a trade for Joey Harrington and a roll of tape.

Lelie and a third for Walker. That is a fair deal and gets this headache out of Green Bay.

I'd be shocked if we got this deal. And real, real happy.

Doesn't it depend on how bad Denver wants him. It's pretty obvious that TT is perfectly willing to let him sit and stew for as long as it takes. Denver might get to salivating and pull the trigger. This is where the coolest heads will prevail, I think.

To get a decent replacement starter and a first day pick for a talented malontent coming of a career threatening injury would border on "fleecing" the Broncos - IMO.

Walker has "Fire Sale" written all over him, no matter how the Packer try to put a brave face on the situation. But, it's a tough year to find receivers. So some desperate team might just bail us out of this mess.

With the weak WR crop this year I'm sure we'll be able to move walker. I say to Denver for a 2nd and a 3rd or a 2nd and Lelie. Anything else and I'm not sure.

ok, maybe that was a little high,

How about this, Lelie and a third, for Walker and a 6th?

Who knows, you might just get the first deal. But I'd take this one too - in a heartbeat.

I would be soooo surprised if TT trades Walker. I think he'll let him rot just to set the tone in Green Bay. As Ziggy pointed out, TT is in no hurry to do this deal, or be remotely competitive this season.

TT has been no BS since day one. What you see is what you get. Play hard, get a Kampy size reward. Cry foul, get a Walker style shaft. And I agree with this! Let J-Walk walk when the light is green!

I only think poor ol' DD should get a reward. If Lelie came in, say, DD is still gonna be at least a 1B receiver, surely!

If a contract extension is required, not to mention a passed physical, for the trade of Walker to be made, can this really happen by this weekend? Unless Denver already knows what kind of contract they'd give Walker and they've already ran it by him, I don't see how we get top dollar for him. Here's a guy who has whined about his contract the last 2 years. Is this something the Broncos would really look forward to as soon as he steps foot in Denver? Do you think Walker will be happy with his current years salary with just different scenery? Unless they already have worked it out, it seems like a slightly higher risk to rock the boat of a team that was so close to going to the Super Bowl.

I've been thinking of him since I was reading that the possibility exists we don't use enough cap space this season. If there is cash to be spent, I think to DD's a really good place to toss it.

Maybe TT will hang onto Walker. I guess this is a possibility. Walker is a very good receiver so I would love to keep him provided he wasn't a cancer. If he is going to be a cancer, then trade him off for a second rounder. But don't trade him for only a third.

Eagles | Heckert won't discuss trading for J. Walker
Mon, 24 Apr 2006 18:32:29 -0700

Larry O'Rourke, of the Morning Call, reports Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel Tom Heckert declined to get into specifics of a possible trade with the Green Bay Packers for Packers unhappy WR Javon Walker. He did indicate trades are possible, maybe even likely, given the Eagles' abundance of draft picks. "I don't think we'll make (a trade) during the week," Heckert said. "Maybe draft day. And it could be while a team is on the clock (to make a pick), because they'll want to see if they can get anything better."
