Well, we're less than a week away from the NFL Draft, and I'm already going out of my mind. I figured this might give us a little something to do in anticipation of Saturday. There was something similar to this on the JSO forums last year, and I had a pretty fun time doing it, so why not give it another try?

The Premise:

Pick 10 players YOU think the Packers will draft this year and what round you think they'll go in. Whoever racks up the most points, wins.

Scoring:

Points will be awarded according to the round the player was taken in, since predictions are proportionally more difficult in the higher rounds. One additional point will be added if the round prediction is correct. Some examples:

Have a pick of "A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio St., 1st round" and if the Packers take Hawk with the 5th pick, you get 2 points, one for hitting a first round pick, one for correctly predicting the round.
A pick of "Brian Calhoun, RB, Wisconsin, 3rd round" with the Packers taking Calhoun in the 3rd round would net you 4 points, 3 for hitting a third round pick, and one for getting the round correct.
Having "Craig Eslinger, C, Minnesota, 3rd round" and the Packers take him in the 4th round will net you 4 points for picking a 4th round pick.

It doesn't matter which 10 players you pick, your list could be Bush, Leinart, Young, Cutler, Hawk, Williams, Ferguson, Huff, Sims, Ngata, or it could be 10 guys nobody ever heard of. You don't have to take a player for each round.

Submissions/changes will be accepted until Tagliabue slams his gavel to open the draft on Saturday morning. Winner gets the honored distinction of either being a lucky SOB or having way too much time to think about the NFL Draft. I dunno. Maybe I'll give you a cookie or something if I ever see you on the street.

Any questions/suggested changes feel free to post them, otherwise happy drafting!

Harvey, is that who you want them to draft or who you think they WILL draft.

Harvey, is that who you want them to draft or who you think they WILL draft.

The idea is to WIN, it has to be who he thinks they will draft...only a fool would enter a contest and put down who he hopes. Maybe it's both....but he doesn't strike me a mirror image of TT....LOL.....

Both. I looked more at guys that I think would fit the system. Some examples:

Some teams might have Giles ahead of Joseph, but Joseph fits the zone blocking scheme better.

Howard fits the mold of a fast LB that the Jim Bates scheme needs. He's one of the fastest in the draft.

Stovall and Marshall are big receivers that the Packers covet.

Thompson has shown he'll go for a small college DB who was productive at that level and who has good athleticism. Pittman fits that mold, and he's also a big corner--which the Packers would ideally prefer.

Eslinger and Kuper are two guys that I think fit the scheme on the OL.

Travaris Jackson and Reggie McNeal are two QBs that I think would be good to bring in the middle rounds. They have good upside.

You don't have to pick one player for each round. You could pick 10 D-II prospects to go in the 7th round or 10 1st rounders. Just name 10 guys you think will wind up in Green and Gold. Sorry, I didn't really make that clear. I'll change the original post.

Bumppedy bump bump.

Get those submissions in people...Use someone's mock draft, pick names out of a hat, throw darts at a board full of names...after the first two rounds it's pretty much a crapshoot anyway, so join in!

Thanks, Cyclone, for starting the contest. It will be tougher next year since hopefilly we won't be picking this early.

Here's what I was thinking with the 3 I got right:

Hawk: There was a lot of talk about Vernon Davis in the last week, but I thought TT would go with the guy who could be a leader of the defense. Packers have lacked that since Butler retired.

Hodge: Really just a guess. He seemed to be the type of linebacker who would fit in this defense.

Jolly: I thought TT might look for a DT late. I noticed Jolly came from the same college program as Montgomery. Since I think Montgomery was a late round steal, I thought TT might take another shot there.

Nice pick, by the way with Rogers. I think he has a real chance to stick because of his kick-returning abilities.
