Colts make defensive end Freeney club's franchise playerBy Michael Smith
ESPN.com

The Indianapolis Colts have placed the franchise tag on defensive end Dwight Freeney.

For a team to try to sign him, they have to be willing to give up two first-round draft choices and then have to wait seven days after reaching agreement to see if the Colts will match.

In his five-year career, Freeney has 46.5 sacks, including 5.5 sacks during Indianpolis' run to the Super Bowl last season.

Thats the highest a player can be tendered. A 1st, a 3rd and the chance to match the offer. I think the player is given about 1.5 mil.

Franchising means the player gets the average of the top 5 paid at his position...or something like that.
