Last week, a young family of five(husband, wife, and 3 young kids) moved from Oklahoma to Portland, Oregon. They checked into an inexpensive hotel and parked their U-haul outside their hotel room.

When they woke up, they discovered their U-Haul had been stolen overnight! All of their worldly possessions were inside the truck.

The police recovered the truck later in the afternoon. All of the truck's contents were gone.

When Joey Harrington(long-time resident of Portland) heard the news, he donated $5,000 of his own money for the family to shop for clothes at a local Nike outlet. He enlisted the help of the community. Donations of $12,000 in cash, furniture, and children's clothing came pouring in.

Needless to say, the family was overwhelmed with Harrington's and the community's generosity.

I have been a long time advocate of Joey Harrington as a fine, young man. Certainly, he has struggled as a quarterback at the pro level. He remains a good man who will be a credit to pro football and the community long after his career is over.
